@@blueshirt4615 mate it's just your own opinion, stop trying to act like people are gonna have their mind blown when they find out what 'blue shirt' thinks of it
What does it matter? Soon enough everyone will die on this prison planet anyways once the ayys come to invade us. I have never felt joy or sadness for anyone else's death or suffering as it does not effect me, I don't understand why other people feel the need to feel sadness or show respect when others have died. Normies are stupid.
Would have loved to hear Denzel on here instead of Moneybagg Yo. They could have had much more chemistry. But seeing how quickly it came about beggars can't be choosers
For you, who might not know, and others who might not know, the song originally featured Pop Smoke, but Pop’s estate used the verse and the replacement verse for other projects, so Swizz enlisted Moneybagg Yo for the track, as he had expressed interest working with him before his untimely passing.
You have real integrity to not just give this a high score just because it's posthumous and X was a legend. Yet it was perfectly tasteful and respectful. I give this review a 10/10
Crazy how influential DMX was. A true icon of the 2000s. Very good records like "Hell is Hot..." Amazing, vicious delivery. Lyrics that gnash like a bulldog on steroids. Can make a great track out of any beat. A legend gone too soon. DMX, man... Excellent artist overall imo
Kinda troubling to see the trend of posthumous albums that don’t really need to be, not that all of them are bad but I feel like many are just an attempt to pump as much money as possible out of an artist
This album was finished before his death. Word that DMX was making a new album with Griselda on it has been spreading for almost a year. Definitely not a cash grab in the slightest.
To be fair pop smokes people wouldn’t clear his feature so at the last minute they got moneybag, tho I agree it still could’ve been a better rapper featured
Yea not a great pairing w DMX at all, no offense to moneybag yo. It also felt corny that u replace the pop smoke verse on a song called “money money money” with a rapper named MONEYbag yo. There’s plenty of young rappers that would’ve worked so so much better w DMX’s style
its not that they wouldnt clear his feature of course they would its DMX, the verse they wanted to use was already used in another song and they didnt want a verse that was already used
bruh i feel pop smoke and dmx could've sonically sounded amazing together cus of their raspy gritty vocals but like it'd be difficult to find any material pop smoke had left over that would match his energy
According to Swizz Beatz the album was basically done before he died. The only thing added after his death was the Moneybagg Yo verse. It was suppose to have a Pop Smoke verse, but it ended up being used for something else. Swizz also claims DMX was a fan of Moneybagg Yo.
@Perverted Alchemist I hope swizz is HEAVILY involved in the preservation of DMX's legacy, I feel only his closet friends and fami, family, should have the right to his music or anything else involving Earl.
DMX words & prayers will live 4 ever .... he was that good . Complete artist , real talk X . Talk & rap . Wow legend sing & rap sell out shows . No hype man . Tap that haters
Honestly it felt like DMX didn’t have much juice left for a while and collaborators carried him over the finish line on this final album. I think it was a good send off. We’re not going to get a classic.
If was mostly the poor mixing that did it in. The tracks that have good production are hard hitting DMX, but on the sloppy ones it gets really messy. Maybe if a deluxe or redux album comes out they could work on the production end a little bit more. X killed his parts but it isn’t all on the same level
Respect to Swizz but hopefully Skyscrapers gets a solid remix that makes X and Bono work a little bit better together. Snoop and DMX might not be a club banger, just 2 dads talking about fuggin' I was like no wonder DMX doesn't rap about Women and Sex a lot, too intense!
@@WilliamFuckingButcher He knew he was gonna die?? Nah, bruh.. Still could've worked out better. There was no need to rush this project, and DMX was still alive enough for the work to have been done better. They (studio) just wanted to release the album while fans were still grieving for the loss. They could make better sales while his death is still fresh than having it out years later.
I get all of you guys really want to see that black midi review, but this isn't the right video to tell everyone that. Better if you guys could do it someplace else, out of respect for the man. RIP DMX
This album was definitely planned to be released before DMX passed (watch his Drink Champs interview). I think some issues come from X not having that concentration and drive to write new fresh verses and Swizz not being great as an engineer. We needed a producer to light the fire under X. After Year of the Dog Again he was reusing verses constantly (Exodus has decade old verses) and it seemed like he was tired of making new music while trying to get his life together. I wish he had more focus on what was said to be his planned last album. Still good for what it is though. Don't get the people saying it's terrible, to be honest.
This guy was honest in his opinion, much respect. Exodus was a masterpiece because from start to finish, this album never swayed away from the core of DMX's message or what he represented. This was X's best album since 'GRAND CHAMP.' Also, X's first five albums were released when he was between the ages of 26, to about 30 years; and being that I've been a fan since 1998, I wanted to hear what DMX sounded like at 50 years; 90's hiphop was great, but life goes on: its 2021! Most of the rappers on this album had always been on DMX's past albums, or he had been on their albums (Nas, Jay Z, Lox,); it was good for X to also collab with other great legends like Usher, Snoop, Bono, Lil Wayne and Alicia Keys: it was also good to witness X with some newer artists, and I would like to hear more of DMX with these newer artists! For me, this album is a solid (8.5/10)! Stay Safe y'll!
If I remember correctly, Denzel posted a list of dream features and X's name might've been crossed off? So maybe they did a collab that'll be on Zel's album.
@@thefilmseeker Haven't seen that pic, I hope it's real, maybe he meant the DIET song tho, treating like a feature? These two would be scary on a track
1:12 - That's My Dog 1:25 - Bath Salts 1:46 - Dogs Out 2:15 - Money Money Money 2:46 - Hold Me Down 3:05 - Skyscrapers - Stick Up Skit 3:40 - Hood Blues 4:04 - Take Control 4:28 - Walking in the Rain - Exodus Skit 4:45 - Letter to My Son (Call Your Father) - Prayer
When the griselda track was dropped as a teaser, I was really excited. Then, when the album dropped I thought the first three tracks were amazing. The Jay-Z and Nas features on Bath Salts really hyped me. Lil Wayne’s feature on Dogs out was dope too. Whole thing kinda collapses afterward tho. Not completely but yeah idk kinda sad.
I personally found this album to be fine. I don't think it's a great album to be a posthumous album but man I just really enjoyed the features. The ONLY thing I didn't enjoy about this project was the Swizz Beatz feature and some beats really just didn't fit the album at all. I'd say this I'd give this at least a 7 for me. Definitely going back to it especially for that Nas/Jayz and the Griselda songs.
Great review! I’ve noticed a lot of reusing/resampling in Swizz beats. Dogs out is literally Uproar from C5. Drum pattern are same in most current bears
He’s 100% right about that Moneybagg Yo feature. I’m a big fan of his music but he definitely seemed out of place. Apparently Pop Smoke was supposed to be on the song instead but the label wouldn’t clear the verse. Swizz & Moneybagg Yo have a good relationship so he was a fill in for him at the last min.
Very respectful review! X's first albums are unbeatable that's for sure. My favourite is Flesh Of my Flesh. Let's wait for Dame Grease...he's holding up some recorded stuff from X.🥰
It felt as if they rushed this project thinking it would chart anyway like the best of DMX did after his passing but the thing is that was a greatest hits album but this one the only thing that was holding together was the griselda feature, the last leg of the album and the Jay Z & Nas collab. The 5 was honestly very polite than other 5 out of 10 reviews I have seen on this channel and I really respect that
Pop Smoke was originally supposed to be featured instead of moneybagg yo on that song, and DMX even contacted pop’s team and got a posthumous pop smoke feature before his death but they changed it last minute after dmx died to a moneybagg yo feature
Never again! Not the song by Jarule😄😄😄. That was my first thought after hearing Exodus. But how could i truly rate the album if i dont listen several times? Hold Me Down is my favorite. X is growling too much. I dont hear his high energy. This surely isnt his high quality nature of work he previously delivered. Yeah, Swizz said he suggested X do features and X agreed. Now i understand y X denounced many. X has a unique style and flow. Skyscrapers with Bono was nice. Overall i liked half the songs. I feel the infusion wasn't great with the ones i didn't care for. Track#1 with Jayz and Nas👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Snoop Dog never disappoints. In most songs the audio of X's vocal was of poor quality{sounded distant} X seemed lethargic. As if he was playing around in the studio...not putting in the work of what he vowed would be his last. My first rating was 5. After listening to each song thrice, 6 is my final answer
For the record the album was about 95% done before he even died...Basically the album just had to be mastered and thats where Swizz rushed it and thats where he fucked up....So all of you saying/thinking that they just put together a bunch of random songs he had in the stash to capitalize on his death, your wrong...This album has been in the making for a while and as a fan I don't mind either way cuz I want to see his family get as much of the proceeds as they possibly can, he wasn't exactly rich when he died and he has a crazy amount of kids
As a X fan. I did not love it. X carried himself on albums. Feels more like a DMX movie soundtrack. And Swiss didn’t do a good job with this. I know it was done before his death but this ain’t it.
I don't why they didn't put the Denzel feature on the album, that would've been great. Idk if it's a single or if it's gonna be on Curry's project, but they did a song together before he passed, so I was low-key hoping to see it on the album, but it seems to be getting saved for a later date
