Some microphone cables tie the signal return and shield drain wire differently than the twisted pair return within a DMX cable. This may introduce a potential grounding problem in your system. Grounding problems can fry electronics. Our example is extreme but meant to highlight the potential problems when using a microphone cable. Proper installations will keep your equipment running at their best performance.
We wouldn't recommend using microphone cables for your lighting fixtures. The microphone cable is designed for audio frequencies (low frequencies) and is a low impedance, high capacitance cable. DMX data cable is designed for a wide bandwidth high frequency data stream, it is a higher impedance and low capacitance cable.
hey! quick question! If you connect a light set up on a building and you program the par cans and all the lights do the dmx addresses get reseted if the power in the building goes off??
Ok so you CAN string completely different types of fixtures to a single controller? So I could run a laser into a par can into a flower pattern into a fog machine? Because NOBODY ever brings this up.
Man in 2 days I have learned soooo much thanks to you and LearnLizard. Now I just feel silly for asking my initial question. I feel way more confident about DMX controlling. THANK YOU!
