I always found the hollowness on this Prime worse than on most recent Transformers, as it always reminded me of how dense Beast Hunters Prime felt from the outside but hollow from the inside. While this upgrade kit is neat I can't help but wish Hasbro had the stock figure more filled in considering how rushed the Gamer Edition subline felt
It really feels like the Gamer Edition figures were some kind of repurposed mainline adjacent series. All of them, even OP which is a high point, are significantly weaker in execution than their CHUG/SS contemporaries. Barricade is an especially pathetic release.

It's a good upgrade kit despite some of the Q/C Biggest takeaway is how the parts all integrate into one mode or the other seamlessly without hampering the transformation process. Though their isn't a lot to fill in what is really shows how Hasbro likes to cut corners on a lot of these modern releases given how crazy expensive some of them are.
I think the main draw for me on this kit are the tail light covers and the axe. The way the tail lights are implemented is probably the best out of all the other kits I’ve seen. I preordered from BBTS but I’m tempted to cancel and order from ShowZ since it’s taking so long for them to get the item in.
You know why their 5mm post does not fit and is smaller? The designers that made this kit did not compensate for the abs plastic shrinkage factor. Especially when the object is thicker such is the case with the 5mm post. The shrinkage factor with abs is around 5%. So they need to make their tolerance important parts 5% bigger so that when they shrink during injection molding manufacturing, it will be sized as it should.
It seems like the axe piece coming off from the mushroom peg would be a feature as much as a defect. Like, if I'm going to have him holding the double-blade axe, I immediately thought, 'Oh, that piece comes off so it'll look symmetrical.'
I got mine a few days ago, and I 💯 agree with the super glue. I had the glue the exact same parts that you mentioned. Honestly I was frustrated I go to DNA designs due to their plastic close to matching Hasbro quality. Only company that came close was Perfect Effects when the Combiner Wars toy line came out.
My theory is this figure was designed as a deluxe but just scaled up to ~125% to be a Voyager at the 11th hour. The hollowness of the thighs and back bumper and the undetailed leg panels would be less egregious at smaller scale
That part fit in for his blaster and holding that is a reference of Transformers War of Cybertron the video game on the Nintendo DS sure not great but hey kind of works too.
I’d love to support DNA but the past 3 kits I’ve got from them had such bad QC that I’m more or less done with them. No way are they worth their asking price. 15 to 25 tops. Way too many others out there right now.
We need some 4th party companies to start knocking off these upgrade kits. The prices are just getting out of hand. It’d give them another change to tweak all the tolerances
I wonder if we'll ever get a WFC motormaster figure as a remold of this optimus - his vehicle mode is pretty much exactly the same and robot mode with a few changes would look accurate. He was only in the DS version though I believe but it'd still be cool to see maybe as a concept art figure.
The ion blaster upgrade part is dumb because if you ever played or seen the war for cybertron game you’ll know that his arm turned into his gun He never held it
I mean, if the only QC issue on the Axe is that it's back blade has a tendency to fall off when switching from single bladed to double bladed Axe, then that's not bad at all. If it's stable and secure in both other modes, and doesn't just randomly fall off unless it's transforming, then that's great. The Rifle holding hand/Handle being loose is admittedly a little annoying, but if your putting in money to upgrade something, then you should be fine spending a couple dollars more for some superglue to tighten the connection, or you just have some paint/Top coat laying around to accomplish the same purpose. Every other upgrade works great, and for the upgrades that do fall off (the back of the vehicle mode) if you liked the upgrade, and it doesn't need to be parts formed off for transformation, then your going to glue it in or tighten it up unless you find an upgrade kit that just looks better.
It is absolutely RIDICULOUS what dna design is charging for these kits. I get that they have a much smaller economy scale, but these kits should not cost more than the figure itself, especially for what you get in them.
my prime's right biceps was as lose as the cannon adapter on the 3rd day i got him, other than that i didnt have any problem with him. i may get another copy, but since i got ss 102 he is my definition of optimus prime

Quick mod with lego parts can solve gun issue and much cheaper. DNA makes half-assed kits for some time, weird decisions and quality droped so hard it's weird.
