Growing up wasn't anything close to a Kinser fan until my family met him at a truck stop and talked to us like we all knew each other for years. Very down to earth n humble man, been fan ever since. Now his cousin Mark is a diff story..... Forever the KING 🤴 🏁 in my book 📖

I first saw him when he was a young running a plain white car with the #11 on the tail. The two man team only had an open trailer being towed by a pick-up truck, It was just him and Karl. I was a fan of short track racing since I was a kid. Nevertheless, I never saw anyone move through traffic as smoothly as Steve did that night in Denver. Later I used to get the Jackson Pilot Newpaper. Jackson is a town in Southern Minnesota reasonably close to Knoxville. The paper's front page news was all about Steve and Doug and their competition at the Knoxville track. Later I got to talk to Steve a few times at tracks in the Denver area. Karl was always more talkative than Steve, who seemed to be mostly a loner from the pages of a Jack London novel with the mind of predatory cat. Steve's prey were all the other drivers on the track. . It's obvious that Karl's cars were exceptional in their day. However, it was Steve was who put them in the winner's circle night after night. Once Steve got into lapped traffic, the race was pretty much his. No one else could move through it the way he did. That's the skill that made him the actual King, although I do agree with the notion that Karl at least with Steve was a King maker. They broke up mostly because Karl wanted to work with his son Mark, but Mark was never as cool headed as Steve. On night I was at the Eagle Raceway in Lincoln, Nebraska and Steve and Mark collided with each other out in a preliminary heat race. I've seen Mark fly off the handle many times. That wasn't Steve's style although some fans (of other drivers like Wolfgang) claimed Steve was dirty; although I would say he was by far the most cunning.

What a horrible interviewer....You have the King sitting next to you and you don't ask him better questions? I would die to spend 20 minutes with Kinser. Half the time this POS wasn't even looking him in the eyes, he was looking away. What a shame. My dad had a great conversation with Steve a few years back at a local track, and had him laughing as they talked
