It was quite a thrill to meet and interview racing legend Karl Kinser, who invited the History Mystery Man to his home shop in Oolitic, Indiana for a fascinating glimpse inside his world. We'll also take a ride back in time with an open-wheel icon. This one's another must-see; please enjoy Part 1...

I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve watched these videos. Karl Kinser is an American racing icon. I’m sure that everyone watching this video already realizes that. The amount of stories Karl could tell and the knowledge he could bestow could be a documentary
@HistoryMysteryMan

And it should be a documentary! I've got some more things coming out on Karl Kinser...about the famous "Big Bertha" car he campaigned in the 1960s. Thanks for your support!

This video made my day. After watching Steve in Knoxville Nationals for a number of years I’m ashamed not knowing his rich history. I could listen to Karl tell stories forever. Truly a time when “men were men” and dam good men. Think you got what it takes, take a left turn on dirt with these guys!

@@rickroth7640 Thanks Rick. The guy who pedaled 90 miles on his 90th birthday is my real father. My step-dad owned USAC Sprint Cars. Toledo, Ohio driver Rollie Beale drove for my step-dad and we were the 1973 USAC Sprint Car National Champions.

Great video, couldn't stop watching. Came from the Merle Bettenhausen to Mel Kenyon videos to this. Great quality and quantity of information. Very professional yet you feel very folksy listening to these great stories. I run the A.J. Watson Tribute Group Facebook page with the sanction and family photo collection. It is a shame we couldn't do these videos like this while they were still with us especially A.J. Now that they aren't in the limelight or under any sponsorship code of politically correctness...they are free to let the stories rip. Can't wait to look at more. Thanks.

Thank a lot Steve; I really appreciate it. Does AJ Watson have any sons or daughters still alive? I've heard that the shop that AJ built his roadsters in is still out there somewhere? Indy? An AJ Watson story would be cool, but from someone who personally knew him. Any leads, let me know. Keep in touch; thanks again!
@SteveNoffke
@SteveNoffke 2 года назад
@@HistoryMysteryMan A.J. and Joyce Watson had 3 daughters who live in the Indy area. Steve Stapp worked with A.J. in the 1960's but recently passed. That would have been a good interview. I came to the A.J. Watson story from his nephew Don Watson who I raced Formula Fords with in the 1980's and we are still in touch. Don's father, Don Sr. was A.J.'s brother. but he too is gone. Willie Davis is in a lot of the old pictures and worked in his shop building the rear engine cars but he recently passed. A.J.'s first shop at 1903 Brand Ave. Glendale, CA was demolished for a freeway. He built Roadsters there up to 1958. He then moved to a shop at 421 Palmer Avenue in Glendale, CA where all the other Roadsters and rear engine cars were built until he moved to a shop in Indy in the 1970's out on Crawfordsville Road. I don't think any of A.J.'s original crew and those who worked in his shop are still with us unfortunately. Might ask in our Facebook Group. Keep up the great work. Like you, these guys are my heros.

@@HistoryMysteryMan Yes, that would be great not only to post on RU-vid but our A.J. Watson Group page. Feel free to use my name for what it is worth. They may be able to put you in touch with some other folks who knew A.J. beyond the scope of what I know. Paul Diatlovich might be one. A.J. was an honorary member of his Indy Car team. Good luck.
