Do we need to know about southern blotting?

Hi! No, you don't need to know about southern blotting, it's not on the spec :)

hello, can I ask if you'd need to know examples for genetic counselling? (e.g. sickle-cell anaemia is detected, and how genetic counsellors would advice)? thanks :)

No, you don't need to know specific examples - just general information that they would give :)

At 4:07 im not sure that is on the new spec anymore? Ive never learnt that in class?

Hi! The specification says "The use of labelled DNA probes and DNA hybridisation to locate specific alleles of genes" , so you need to know how DNA hybridises for AQA. Also, there have been lots of exam questions in the past asking how you would you hybridisation to measure how closely related two organisms / DNA sequences. Probes bind to the complementary sequence by DNA hybridisation too :)
