Awesome. I've recently been able to confirm the identity of my pat great grandfather who died in the 1890s, shortly after the death of his wife. My grandfather was very young at the time and was subsequently adopted, so he knew next to nothing about his parents. I cracked the code so to speak with learning that my great grandfather had been married twice and had a daughter from his first marriage. I have shared DNA matches with her descendants but because they all have different surnames, none of which matched to surnames in my tree, i had no clue who those matches were, until I found the daughter's name and location and worked up a tree. The highest match is 185 cm and is my 1/2 2C1R. Yesterday, I ran through and over the brick wall for the name of my pat great grandmother. I had noticed two surnames among my matches that were unique, repetitive, and matched no surnames in my tree. So i isolated the matches and looked at those that had trees. And discovered my great grandmother, her parents and grandparents.

I was very excited to see Laura in this video as she is a very strong DNA match to my father's 1st cousins. We are all descendants of Nehemiah Davis and Polly Allison. Thank you all for your hard work.

I'm just an ordinary, probably colonial ancestry American, and I knew a lot of my family tree when I started doing genealogy. I got started on DNA tests one Christmas when my daughter and I decided we would all (she and her spouse, me and my late spouse--her stepdad) do DNA testing. We started with 23andme. I had reasons for wanting my husband tested. We Americans tend to ignore what went on the the rest of the world, but I liked history and he had told me a lot about his background. He was born in Vienna, Austria during WWII. His dad was in the German army, but his mom had two children by a mysterious previous husband. I had read stories about Hitler's efforts to build his Aryan race. I wondered if his father was really his father. The Nazis actually took Aryan appearing children in the countries they conquered, and turned them over to SS officers to raise. Women were encouraged to have babies and pregnant women and mothers had all sorts of advantages, even food, which was scarce for everyone else. My husband had told me already that Germans tend to not discuss family history. I can see why, because a lot of them don't really know their family tree. We didn't really get much results because this is the USA and his only DNA cousins were very distant ones and many were overseas. Now that he has gone, I no longer even have anyone to translate German. He was not very interested in knowing his family tree anyway. But he had a small book that all German babies had in those days. It listed the baby, the parents, the grandparents and the great-grandparents. I do wonder if that was part of Hitler's obsession with pure Aryan bloodlines. This was not just something that the parents filled out, it was done by part of the government. Anyway, there had to be a lot of people in parts of Europe who doubted their origins, but not a lot of people born during the war are still alive. For now, since I am old and sick, I have redoubled my efforts to get my tree ready to pass on to whatever niece or nephew who wants to take it on. Thank you all for listening.

Something tells me TONS of German family trees are flat out wrong due to that Nazi breeding program you just mentioned but yeah i totally understand why many German people don't talk about family history. Wouldn't want to find out that your nice grandfather was a nazi or even worse not your grandfather.

I have been a DNA Angel abc its fabulous. I also went to a fabulous adoption search group with both adoptees and birth parents for 25 years (fabulous to get to practice talking to the other side and challenge the "surely they didn't want me" mind frame). Good job!

Dr Price, your story is so similar to mine. Yes, it is traumatic to know that you really don't know who you are. My parents separated for a time, my sister and I were conceived, my parents went back together and we were raised not knowing even til the day my mother passed away. After she passed I found out my father was not my bio, however, via DNA my bio was found but had passed years earlier. My mother was adopted and we never knew who her bio's were and we have tried. Trying to get help to no avail. I feel such an outsider not knowing my bio father nor my bio grands and who they are. I would love to have assistance in trying to find them.

@@sharsalmonweeks5919 The upsetting part I lose a whole family. Then to find out we all have different fathers but thanks to DNA and the angels they found the lost connections. Still heart breaking.

Great work although I have to say I was a bit amused that you warned Dr Price that her case might be hard. I'd kill to have a 1c1r from the branch I'm investigating
