Perfect example of being officious. They obviously closed off what they were doing and being as careful as possible to not hurt anyone. That officer just got them on a technicality just because he can on a whim. People who strive to be in positions of power just to put the hammer down on trivial things don’t deserve those positions.

Having been in Law Enforcement years ago, I think this DNR Officer is really splitting hairs. Clearly, there was no risk to other members of the public (I could not see anyone else there) & it appears to be a fairly remote location. I would much rather see you guys doing this stuff out & away from the public (ie. not doing it on the streets or parking lots). We always worked with something called "Officer Discretion" & he does not really appear to be doing so. Yes, he could cite operational violations & maybe some others for "risk to the public" - but seriously, it just is not worth it - he needs to learn to pick his battles & this should not be one. Now, if there were others in the area ice fishing, etc and it was risking their safety or disturbing them (ie. he got a complaint), that would be different. Personally, I would just tell you to watch the ice thickness & if others showed up to ice fish, I would ask you to shut it down. Until then, have fun & stay safe! By the way - I don't know how the guy in the quad didn't toss his cookies after doing that wild donut spin! Crazy (cool too lol). Wishing you all a safe & Merry Christmas!

This has happened to me. I was boofin around on the ice. Some ice shack karen called the cops. I was already off the ice and parked at a friend's house down the road. The cop had to drive around and look for a vehicle that fit my description and then have me a ticket for reckless driving. Took it to court, cop didn't show ofc cuz they never do and it was dropped.

That cop was a dick. Y'all made a track to safely practice ice driving. You did everything you should have to make it as safe as possible and you weren't hurting or bothering anyone. If somebody had called it in or been put at risk the cops would have been under an obligation to shut it down, but that wasn't the case. Cops inherently have a ton of discretion in their jobs, and this cop made the conscious decision to go out of his way to find you and be an asshole. Must've been bullied as a child or something.

Alright man here is what I would do with that DNR officer. Get lawyer and I would have that officer charged with over policing (as he admitted to basically stalking you online) and file for a restraining order so that if he feels the urge to ticket you again he cannot come anywhere near you. Hey Micah you can get that ticket dropped by your lawyer! I got a wreckless operation ticket on my ATV and was on the side of the road. My lawyer got it dropped. He said hypothetical a person could do donuts in a field and people have gotten tickets but it's not on a roadway so it was thrown out. Just a heads up that could help from that insurance going up
