I really enjoyed this and agree with so many of your sentiments! I have been on academic campuses where I wouldn’t feel as comfortable carrying luxury and some where it’s much more accepted. I do carry mine but many are very subtle so most people wouldn’t know they were luxury. Carrying a birkin would definitely be something I’d have to carefully consider. I’m a part time professor in the humanities/social sciences and my husband is in a more tech centric non-academic position and the way our fields and work are valued monetarily is so different! I’m right there with you on the mindful and sustainable consumption. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for responding! I’ve been a fan of your channel for ages now, since I was in academia. I totally hear your point about it depending on the campus, and I do love that your work bag videos are usually on understated bags… it’s like you were into quiet luxury before it was a thing! 😉 I’d love to hear more about how your career is evolving as you have gone part time and as your collection evolves.
A woman on TikTok recently went viral claiming she lost her job because she carried a luxury bag to work. 😮 Of course we can’t know if that’s true or not because it could be other variables like work performance, attendance, company re-orgs. But it does make you think, can your luxury bag affect your employer giving you a raise. Or promotion. Could it make co-workers envious of you & affect your work relationships. This is SUCH an interesting topic. Love the academic approach!!!!!
😳😱🫣 omg what a nightmare!!! Yes it’s hard to tell for sure but I can’t help but wonder if it really does influence how we’re viewed in the professional setting, at least to some extent…
@@wittingchic it shouldn’t affect how we are viewed at all. When you’re working the only thing I think is important is your work performance. I have no way of knowing if the person bought the bag themselves or if it was a gift. And it’s not my business as long as the person does their job well. But we live in a judgy society. Unfortunately.
