If you know anything about technology, you’ve heard about Silicon Valley. Jason Portnoy was a Silicon Valley executive at PayPal and had all of the outward signs of success, but internally, he was miserable.
He experienced compulsive porn consumption which escalated to buying sex, sugar dating, and more.
Listen to Jason open up with podcast host Garrett Jonsson about some of the adverse childhood experiences he had which led to him seeking comfort through porn, why he labels porn a gateway drug, and how he finally experienced true healing.

The normalizing of p0rn due to the sheer quantity of it and the whole online world/community was a great point he brought up. The transition from driving to a sleazy 'adult' store and paying for smut at the counter, to having it all readily available anonymously on multiple devices at any time has been a huge disaster.

Absolutely. And men used to not want to admit they used it.. women knew to stay away from men who used it. Now it's so normalized it's talked about all the time. Men have no shame about it. I have had men want to go out with me and right off the bat I ask if they use porn. If they say "yeah, all guys do". I say "well, not all guys use it and I don't date men who do. So please delete my number". These guys will then disclose how much they love it and what types they love and say they never want to give it up. That's all I need to know about him. He would rather have porn than an actual woman in his life.

@@ASMRyouVEGANyet Sam Vaknin says conditioning exists even if you don't enjoy the hobby... therefore it's called conditioning. because you feel no pleasure from it. The guys maybe don't even know if they like it. Therefore teens shouldn't use social media. He says conditioning is worse than addiction. That addiction is easier to heal.

I think doing porn and watching it have some of the same effects. Destroys you emotionally from the inside out and makes you hopeless and empty in the end.

My husband has been consuming porn since he was young. Been married 9 years and he had an affair with two coworkers while I was pregnant. I believe porn was a huge factor but he is destroyed and devastated by his actions but honestly as a woman and wife putting up with this addiction makes me want to move on..

I wish you all the best. It is a tough decision to make, especially post pandemic. I'm a trafficking victim. At first, having been easily abetted into commiting crimes, I believed it was my fault. Many people around me held this belief, as I was pressured into a legal grey area. And for the longest time I didn't realize how porn desensitized me to a lot of things. Often as a result of my abuse and co occuring mental health issues, I've been too triggered by it and often choosing abusive partners who would coerce me into doing things I did not want.

You can only choose what is right for you and your family, if you have children together, but you are important and your happiness matters so much, to you and the people around you. If you can afford therapy on your own I really recommend that (provided the therapist is good and you get on) and look up betrayal trauma if you havent already, there is a lot of support, advice and camaraderie on youtube for your situation.

I can relate to the hookups, especially with Grindr. I still the app downloaded on my phone. Porn made me question my sexual orientation. Thank you for speaking up about this issue.

An interesting interview! I feel like I could have listened to it much longer. Especially the concept of white-knuckling the abstinence usually doesn't last long. Addictions are a taboo, and this one maybe being one of the "greatest", as it touches our deepest parts as a human (s3xuality). We need 100x more talk about this in mainstream media.
