Valiant Richey started his career as a prosecutor, where he moved to the Special Assault Unit, handling sexual assault, child exploitation, and human trafficking cases for a decade. He now works for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), an organization that works on security issues and human rights for 57 countries.
Val is an ambassador for the organization, working with countries on how they can better combat trafficking. His extensive experience and work with so many countries give him unique insight into how consistent the patterns and functions of human trafficking are from country to country.
In this episode, Valiant talks about how trafficking is fed by a demand for people willing to pay for sex. He explains how sexually explicit material further drives the demand for sexual violence and sex trafficking and the connection between how victims are treated and their abusers' use of pornography.
Valiant discusses how rampant sex trafficking is and what we can do to address it on a macro level, as well as individual shifts in our perspective and attitudes towards sex buying can help decrease the demand for sex trafficking.
Fight the New Drug is a non-religious and non-legislative organization that exists to provide individuals the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding pornography by raising awareness on its harmful effects using only science, facts, and personal accounts.

This had me sobbing. I hate our society sometimes. A tragedy breaks out in the form of war and the mass exodus of a population, and right away scumbags are seeking to exploit them. It is so sad and infuriating. I also hate how normalized pornography has become, especially in the form of things like onlyfans. It is all sexual exploitation, and like he said, sex work shouldn't be an industry that is a last resort for anyone, or even an alternative for a proper education and fulfilling career. I also feel like it needs to be said, that when he says "buying sex" it shouldn't necessarily imply exchanging money. Even freely available pornography contributes to the problem, to the profits of the industry, and the exploitation of people. Thank you for the work you do.

That was an awesome speaker. I wish I'd found this channel sooner. I thought it was particularly interesting that, based on his work in prosecuting sex crimes, he doesn't see any scenario where legitimising or regulating sex work makes it any better or alleviates the problems its causing. This was tough to swallow, as I was trying to find a way to say that I disagree with some of FTND community's black and white attitude towards pornography. Recently FTND fielded an interview with a well known and current performer, which was lambasted by the community because that performer was regarded to be "part of the problem". But what they were saying is that their transition out of the studios and into owning their own channel was a progressive step towards improving the industry. While sites like OF have the same risks and problems as any other porn site, I was of the mind that transitioning performers into a paradigm where they own and control their own content and production was surely better for the industry and society as a whole than banning it outright. I suppose its not a new argument, but Prohibition didn't stop people drinking, it just made the brewers very wealthy. It's been hard to accept the perspectives of other interviewees who have retired from the industry and given interviews about their exploitation from the comfort and security their successful careers afforded. Here instead was someone who is still a participant in that industry, talking about how to make it better. That was, according to this community, "part of the problem". I didn't agree that the industry is universally harmful, but hearing him say that he doesn't see a scenario where regulating the industry would work, has given me a lot to reconsider there.

This is so important. Thank you. I've saved this on Important and Truth playlists on my channel. Will share as often as possible. This is an educational tool for survivors to educate the uninformed. God bless you for having this guest. Does he mind emails? As a survivor, i know the uphill battle he climbs. I'd love to know if his opposers have tried retaliation. I've seen it both online and off. Hence, my prayers for all good humans , especially this gentleman and all victims and survivors. In memory of those who didn't get away. All abuse eventually is poisonous. Pornography encourages abuse. Ty again ❤

Pornography destroys dopamine in young minds. I saw a RU-vid commercial that I reported was suggesting to youth that porn is a viable career choice. Why did youvtube even allow that ad?
@pepperpeterpiperpickled9805
yikes what?! was this for a particular website or who was advertising it?

Let’s be honest. The only way to end the sex trafficking industry is for traffickers to start disappearing. I’m so sick of everyone beating around the bush. #makeworkingclassregularpeopleviolentagain

Just let adults watch what they want? And watch reputable porn stars so you know they weren't abused? Impossible to end it.

Did you listen to anything he said? You can't be 100% sure that those on the screen are consenting. You can't know for sure there isn't coercion, which ANY coercion for ANYTHING sexual is sexual assault. Zero exceptions.
