When she mentioned that people have tried to pick her up-- I felt that. As a disabled, wheelchair dependent person I cannot tell you how many times people have decided to just start pushing me like a shopping cart. Its awful but not shocking. Genuine question, how would you like for non-disabled people to respond to this, if at all? I'm a caregiver and some of the people I've cared for and do care for are disabled so I think that if I saw somerhing like this going on my automatic reaction would be to get angry and defensive over the disabled person. That being said, I understand disabled people do not need to be saved per se. I would love to help if possible and welcomed.

As a little person myself. I prefer the term little person because I feel like it classes me as a person and I feel as human as everyone else. The term dwarf almost makes me sound like a mystical creature but I don’t mind if it’s used in a medical context. The word midget is highly offensive and is a derogatory word. People used to used that word to bully me and make fun out of me which a lot of other little people have gone through. Thats why most little people hate the word midget and dwarf. It’s crazy to me a lot of people are trying to determine what sounds offensive and what doesn’t when they have never ever gone through the experience of being a little person

Interesting to know and thanks for clarifying, I was never sure of the "politically correct/non-offensive" term. When I was little, I used to think "midget" was discriminatory since it sounded like I was addressing someone as a thing while "dwarf" reminded of the dwarfs from Lord of the Rings whom I thought were brave, funny, and cool; so I reasoned this must be the "nicer" term. Pretty weird but that was my flawless 8 yr old logic at work I guess. (to clarify, No, I've never addressed someone who's LP either midget or dwarf before)

13:50 I really respect JC's realism and take on self respect. He makes the best out of life and his circumstances, but he doesn't feel the need to cling to his condition. He's come to terms with its advantages and disadvantages, and yet having decided for himself its more negative, he doesn't try and lie or reconvince himself about it, instead accepts it and moves on. I'm not trying to invalidate the other people's opinions, but I feel like a lot of people with adverse life situations always make the case of love yourself no matter what and claim they wouldn't change or whatever. Its a very common thing, and all the more power to those people, but not everyone in the same position is going to feel that way and I respect someone who won't forcibly convince themselves something they don't actually believe. For him it would be silly to make more of his identity being a little person and there's nothing wrong with that either

I kinda get it tbh. I have ADHD which isn't a visible disability but affects my life negatively in a lot of different ways, and while I 100% wish I didn't have to struggle with it it DOES make me who I am because it affects so many aspects of my life. I'd love to not have to do a thousand spreadsheets, or take meds, or ask my loved ones for constant reminders and accountability to function. But on the other hand, growing up with this, how much of it has affected who I am as a person, you know? Our sense of self is a construct, so I know that if I suddenly didn't have ADHD my self perception would change gradually, and it's not like my goals and dreams would change, and certain things would be way easier. But when it's something you know you can't "cure" and just have to work with and affects your life trajectory in such a major way, well, it kind of IS part of you. Your mannerisms, the way you view the world and how you interact with it are directly tied to your condition. If this makes sense, if I could cure it right now, I would, no questions asked. But I am who I am because of it and would never wish I wasn't born with it. It's a complicated feeling.

it might be easier to just climb when they need to, rather than carry around an extra thing. I could carry my cane with me every day, so I have it if I need it. But it's bulky, takes up space in my bag, and adds a lot of weight. Instead, I do my best to assess myself in the morning, and if I'm without it and suddenly could use it, I just struggle and sit down more often. I'm used to it, and it's not so bad that I'd prefer the annoyance of carrying me cane all day every day.

To the people telling me to call them by their name, I was talking about descriptions. I’m not going to call them “little person x,” every time we meet. If I went missing, I’d want people to describe what stands out. My height, hair and race make me stand out. “Jeans and a t-shirt,” isn’t enough. I am interested if there is added risk for females with dwarfism to have children as they actually have to carry the baby, I wonder if this can cause things like the baby being born too small for example. For a man while you might pass on the traits its still easy for them, as they dont have to carry the baby so as long as their stuff is workin birth wouldnt really be any different.
