I like to finish with a push to the finish line to feel good that I can run faster after a long run. Only 100 Meters or less.

Not as many as I know I should. Triathlon Taren just did an excellent piece on this the other day. Lots of gains to be had there.

I focus on general conditioning and a lot of strength training in the off season. Then, as soon as the snow melts, I'm back on the bike and working on swimming and running. This helps me mentally not burn out and I can build back muscle that I lose the long distances during race season

4:00 It is better to do the run before the strength session.. studies found that way around is better in terms of muscle soreness in the next days, and from my own experience the injury risk was worse when I'd tried a strength session AM and run PM.

#gtncoachescorner Hey GTN! I finally did my first sprint triathlon and it was awesome. My question today is swim related. I’ve been swimming on and off for about 10 months and usually start my sets and last weekend race with a smooth and comfortable 1:35 min per 100 pace with a 2 bit kick and bi-lateral breathing. However, once I am around 200 meters, the fatigue kicks in a bit and my form suffers hence my pace goes down to 1:50 - 1:55 per 100. Is it that I am not fit enough in the pool yet? Am I being impatient? Cheers guys, I love your show, keep it up.

#gtncoachescorner Hello, I am a high school cross country runner, and I have recently been fortunate enough to podium at the Wisconsin State meet. My best 5k race this season was a 15:47. I want to take my training to the next level with more strength work, however I have heard a lot of different approaches to lifting for runners. What kind of rep range would you recommend? Also, which are the best lifts to focus on? Thanks so much!

Hi GTN. I did my very first novice distance triathlon a couple of months ago and I’d love to try a sprint distance next. Overall I was pleased with how I did in the novice race but when I looked at my individual splits I noticed that my transition times let me down and I was significantly slower than most other competitors, especially in T1. I think I know how to train for swimming, cycling and running but I have no idea how to train for transition specifically. Do you have any tips? #gtncoachescorner

I’d say the long run is the one thing you can’t substitute for swimming and cycling.

I have had quite a few interuptions. I was ill 4 times, had an injury so the season started way later in febuary and I crashed and had to take a week off as well. Do you think it is safe to make the (for me active) offseason 2, instead of 3 months long?

#gtncoachescorner i am a fat guy with a moderate to Low Level of Fitness, returning to triathlon to get fitter (and as a result help to lose weight). I work full time, and struggle to get more than 6 - 8 hrs a week (i can maybe get it up to 10 some weeks) to train and its not regular days at regular times. I have done an Olympic Triathlon a couple of years ago and I plan on doing a 70.3 at the end of 2022 or early 2023, what would be the best split in my training for each discipline? Or is it even possible on that many hours a week?

Is it valid to wear a hydration vest on a long bike ride for the extra water capacity? Or is that weird?

A hydration vest, even something as small as a 500ml fuel belt, WILL slow you down, so make sure you actually calculate how much you will need based on distance/temperature/humidity etc., and leave your recovery drink/ food back at the car: don't carry more than you absolutely need with you the whole way round.

Hi, guys, if you don’t want to get burned out in your sport, go for a season off. This should never mean going from 100 to 0, because it would harm your body heavily. ~ I am a huge fan of your channel, but please more quality again. Stryd pods the wrong way around on the shoe, wrong assumptions and like here half the answer, does not feel not good… knowing my athletes come up to me asking, what you tell them through your channel. It is getting hasty in your channel.
