The answer is yes, i have 2 analogue desks in my studio that i use for recording. In the Tracking room a Allen & Heath GL2800 32 ch with 10 aux ouputs and a Behringer MX9000 24+24 with 6 Aux outputs that resides in the live room , i use this one only for demo's and quick things and playbacks. I use them for their mic pre amps, they are great for routing signals in the sense that they can behave as advanced patch bays. They both have great sounding EQ sections, i hook up the monitors to them. I can create dedicated IEM channels for every single person recording ! Last but not least everybody just loves them, they look cool and have the WOW factor!!
oh and i forgot the best part, if you do your homework, you can find some tasty analogue mixers for cheap ! Nearly most PA rental firms have gone digital and are selling their old stuff for cheap. They are not easy to sell as your normal guy has no interest for a massive mixer. Most people need a compact portable solution. But if space is no concern and you want a big bang for the buck then an analogue mixer is a fantastic option :)

Dan - how would you connect the desk to the soundcard? I also have a Behringer desk with a Focusrite 2i2. Would it be a two mono out jacks at the desk to a stereo jack into the AI?
You can plug either from main outs or alt/buss into the AI lines, monitor back either through the interface's phone outs, or monitor outs into desk's tape/2-track RCA's as well, you can toggle monitoring on the monitor section of the desk itself! Hook up your phones/monitors in the desk's ctrl out, or main out if absent and using buss for recording. My xenyx 2442 has built-in USB i/o but a phono USB interface used to come along; the 2-track i/o was usually how it was connected. Now I got a bigger AI (m-audio FTU) and use subgroups for recording and spare channel strips for monitoring, sort of split console fashion. Ymmv!
