“The church in its current state is not always glorious to us.” John Coblentz writes. “We are still imperfect-our music is at times off-key, our theology is at times wide of the mark, and our interactions with each other fall short of the love we profess.” John encourages us to see what God wants to do and to work for the broader church, even in the face of difficulty, failed or abusive relationships, and the inherent tendency to shrink our associations to those like us. John talks about appreciating and welcoming believers from varied cultures."

How does one join an Anabaptist Church?

As you know, the term Anabaptist can refer to Hutterite, Amish, Mennonite, Bruderhof, or even German Baptist, and Church of the Brethren, and The Apostolic Christian Church... So it can vary quite a bit between these groups. Many people say "Anabaptist" to mean Mennonite, specifically. Even among Mennonites, though, it can vary a bit from Old Order, to Conservative, to more liberal communities. What they all have in common is that you start attending regularly, meet the people, ask questions, and start becoming more like them, doing things their way... When ready, you should start asking specifically about their procedure for membership. Pay close attention! Some have more expectations and commitments than others. I wish you well on this journey. May His Spirit guide you on your way. 🕊 🌿

I am a little less than two years into my journey in joining a Mennonite church. As Ajits64 wrote, there is a very, VERY broad spectrum of levels of Conservatism in the Mennonite faith. From Groffdale Conference (horse and buggy Mennonites) to Mennonite USA (extremely liberal). There are dozens in between. I suggest determining your level of Conservatism and seeking a Church that matches. Just go to a service at a few of your local churches and talk to the people. It will all come naturally. Best wishes and god bless.
