You didn't "love" Mary when being a Christian? Love does not mean worship, or to disobey Jesus. I love Mary enough to listen to Jesus Christ. Jesus tells us that when we pray to pray to our Father (Matt 6). We also learn that we only have one Intercessor for our prayers, the Holy Spirit itself. ❤ 🙏

Why do we have to ask Mary and the saints to intercede for us when we have Jesus Christ as the only mediator between God and men? ‭‭(1 Timothy‬ ‭2:5‬) Asking other believers (on earth) to pray for us is certainly biblical (2 Corinthians 1:11; Ephesians 1:16; Philippians 1:19; 2 Timothy 1:3). The apostle Paul asks other Christians to pray for him in Ephesians 6:19. BUT the Bible nowhere mentions anyone asking someone in heaven to pray for him or her. The Bible nowhere describes anyone in heaven praying for anyone on earth and gives absolutely no indication that Mary or the saints can hear our prayers. Mary and the saints are not omniscient. Even glorified in heaven, they are still finite beings with limitations. Whenever the Bible mentions praying to or speaking with the dead, it is in a negative context involving activities the Bible strongly condemns (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13; 1 Samuel 28:7-19). The questions isn't do we worship Mary or pray through her.... the question is why do pray to marry. She was amazing but you must realize that Mary does not hear us. Also Jesus said to let the dead bury the dead. Focus on God Mary has passed and has no ears to hear you. No scripture says that she was given special abilities to intercede. Search in your heart.

Brother when we are ignorant to certain things sometimes that ignorance makes us say some incoherent things. The word “prayer” has TWO meanings. One is the one we all know which is to worship. The other is one Protestants don’t know and apparently some Catholics don’t know it either; ask, petition, or request. You just said you are a practicing Catholic that does not pray to Mary but you pray (ask) Mary. So you contradicted yourself.

Prayer comes from the Latin word precarious which means to request. We pray to God directly, but the more we have praying for us the better. Jesus said where two or more are gathered in His name, He is there in the midst of them. Virgin Mary is the one who intervened at the wedding at Cana. (Lk 2:3-11)Who better to ask for help than our heavenly mother (Rev 12:17), than the mother of our God(Lk 1:31,35,43, 2:7)

@@Jesus.loves.you.123 Many of our prayers end with, “per christum dominum nostrum” (through Christ our Lord.) so yes we do pray to Jesus so our prayers go to the Father. Nothing they said is sufficient to address how disobeying Jesus and the Apostles is okay... Fact is, the act of praying to Mary undermines the Gospel of Jesus Christ! In Matt 6, Jesus tells us Who to pray to (our Father), how not to pray (like the heathen) and even gives us an example of how our prayers should look like everytime we pray. We also learn that we have one intercessor for our prayers, because we often do not know what we should pray for as we ought... the Holy Spirit itself! Nevermind that praying to Mary or anyone else other than God is idolatry!... Just the thought of thinking it is okay to pray to Mary or others is proof by implication that you do not know or understand the Scriptures. This is very important, because no born again Christian would ever even think of praying to anyone else but God.

Changing names and sprinkling a little Jesus here and there is the world's religion way of justifying herself. "Oh, it must be Christian because it says Jesus a few times here and there." The idea that God chose Mary to conceive the Son of God in her womb is indeed a profound and central aspect of the Christian faith. It signifies a great blessing on her, as she became a vessel for God's ultimate purpose of salvation on earth. However, it is crucial to differentiate between acknowledging Mary's role in the divine plan and worshiping her. It is undeniable that Catholics worship Mother Mary. Just to escape arguments, they often say we don't worship; instead, we pray to Mary for intercession. Just look into the Bible and see that this contradicts the biblical teaching of worshiping God alone. The presence of a statue of Mother Mary inside the church and the act of bowing down to them, as well as burning candles in front of them, are cited as examples of what appears to be worship. The question that arises is whether such practices align with the teachings and actions of Jesus and his disciples, especially after his death and resurrection. It is notable that there is no explicit biblical evidence of the disciples engaging in similar acts of veneration toward Mary or any other figures. The emphasis in the Bible seems to be on worshiping God directly. Don't you think that such practices might stray from the fundamental commandments of God? Isaiah 45:5 says, "I am the LORD, and there is none else; there is no God beside me." And any practices that may appear to elevate Mary to divine status could be seen as potentially conflicting with this command. *AND IT'S A SIN AGAINST GOD... REPENT*

The church of Romanism is an apostate church. You have to be ignorant of Scripture or have cognitive dissonance to think the Roman Catholic Church is the same one Jesus and the Apostles founded! Here is a good example out of many: In Matt 6, Jesus tells us that everytime we pray to pray to our Father that sees in secret and rewards us openly, that knows what we need of before we ask Him. We also learn from the Apostles that we have one intercessor for our prayers, The Holy Spirit itself: Romans 8:26-27 King James Version 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. When a Catholic prays the Hail Mary, they are asking Mary to pray for them. Most of the Hail Mary is in the Bible word for word and spoken by an Angel. God didn't condemn the Angel Gabriel for saying, "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee." We are asking her to pray for us. The Rosary, is a contemplative prayer, focusing on the life of Jesus Christ at different points in directly from the Bible, a pilgrimage through the eyes of the Savior's mother from the Annunciation by the Angel Gabriel, through Jesus's life, death, and resurrection. Mary is the ONLY human to know him from conception until his ascension to the Father. 4) There is nothing contrary to the doctrines/teachings of the Church established by Jesus Christ and his Apostles. I can assure you there is no Catholic that has ever loved, respected, or honored Mary more than Jesus Christ and His Apostles.

Why would you use Mary as an intermediary when you can go directly to Christ? Jesus even knows your prayer and needs before you even ask. Philippians 4:5 let your requests be made known to God; Matthew 6:6 Jesus says- go to your room, close the door and pray to your Father; while Steven is being stoned, he sees Jesus on the right hand of the Father and talks to Him. , Paul says to call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and Jesus gives us The Lords Prayer and there are so many more examples. Direct, a straight line, is what the Bible shows us. And I’m not saying that you should not pray for others because we all should but my prayer for someone else is direct to God.

I think many of the problems with any beliefs arise when we try to Read something into the Scripture that isn't there.. You need follow the Teaching of Christ and and there are the Epistles to deepen your understanding about the Work of Christ.. None of them even hint of any other deity/Medeator other than Christ.. If it was of any importance i am sure it would have been mentioned in the Scripture... Why not leave our differences aside and focus on what Scripture has to say

The problem with Mary is quite simple. 1. It's not mentioned in the Bible that we should pray to Mary let alone she could simultaneously hear the prayers of everyone that prays to her. Mary is not omnipresent like God. 2. You use the example of one asking others to pray for them or intercede to God on his/her behalf. But do we request the same from the very same people once they are no longer alive? No. 3. Christ already redeemed us on the cross. It is already done. Christ is not some distance figure that we need Mary to make our prayers heard by God. We pray directly to our father in heaven.

@@fred3893 Hi Fred. That's a thoughtful and legit question. For many protestants that would come back to "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus;" -I Timothy 2:5) To ask for intercession for many would be to deny that Jesus is enough, that he's less than capable to mediate or intercede for us. I feel I probably didn't answer your question well, but it's a start.

@fred3893 Год назад
@@kkuster1 Thank you for your reply. I hope you don't mind if I seek further clarification. You say that Jesus is the only mediator between God and Man, which Catholics absolutely agree with (It is written repeatedly in our Catechism). You say that 'to ask for intercession for many would be to deny that Jesus is enough, that he's less than capable to mediate or intercede for us.' I can see what you mean but Catholics believe scripture makes it clear that we SHOULD intercede for others. Some examples include the following: Philippians 1:19 'For I know that through your prayers AND the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance' (Here, the word, AND, makes it clear that intercession by others can contribute to a person's 'deliverance') Colossians 4:3 "At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ' (Here, Paul is openly asking others to intercede for him. Why doesn't he ask Christ himself? The answer, of course, is that he did, but he also knew that the prayers of others would build on his own prayers) These passages (and others) show that the early Church openly taught that we should intercede towards Christ on the behalf of others. Catholics believe that this is not diminishing Christ, it is acknowledging that he wants us to be a COMMUNITY of believers. It certainly does NOT suggest that the person we are asking to pray for us is, on any level, as divine as Christ. Now I know some believe that Mary and the saints are 'Dead' and can not hear us. That is a seperate issue, and one that I will be happy to engage in if necessary. I hope, however, that you can see why Catholics believe that prayerful intercession on the behalf of others is scriptural. Thank you for your polite reply. Please let me know you think my response shows that I have missed something.

People clearly need to know more about how ancient civilizations worked. From the beginning up to Jesus’s time, mothers were the intercessors. The kings of all married so many women, and had so many concubines that it was difficult choosing a queen without angering the family of all those women that were not chosen as queen or principal consort. There are very few exceptions in the history of humanity until recent times. That’s why the king’s mother usually took upon herself to take care of her sons home and keep the peace inside the harems and amongst the servants. That’s why Mary is considered a queen, because she gave birth to THE KING of kings.

There was a problem with that line of thought. If you are worried that you need a go between for you and Jesus to have a relationship with him. There’s a real problem in relationship which lands with person not Jesus. He is the go between. So having a go between for the go between is confusing and nonsensical (no offense meant). That confusion and God clearly states he is not the author of confusion. I think it’s wise to rethink that and take another look at scripture. It should make it quite clear. That’s my opinion for what it’s worth 😊

Praying to Mary - straightforward bible logic: First: 1) Read the bible deeply and absorb biblical principles. 2) Understand the earlymost Church's Jewish traditions. 3) An absence of explicit statement in the bible is not proof - all Christians know Jesus is God even if He never said it. 4) I use the RSVCE Bible. Bible logic: 5) Does the bible ask us to pray for one another? Yes! [1 Tim 2:1-3; Jam 5:6; Jam 13-20; Eph 6:18-20; Gal 6:2] 6) Does the bible speak to the power of the prayers of the righteous/saints/holy ones? Yes! [Jam 5:16; Rev 8:4] 7) Despite the fact that: God is omniscient, right? Yes! [Numerous verses] 8) Was Mary the most obedient human to God (righteous/saintly/holy) / earn God's favour? Yes! [Luk 1:38; Luk 1:31] 9) In ancient Jewish tradition, the King's *mother* was queen. Jesus is our King Saviour, so is Mary our Queen? Yes! [Rev 12:1-5; Jer 13:18] 10) Did Angel Gabriel not greet Mary thus: "Hail {Greek 'chaire' formal, warm, e.g. Latin: Ave [Caesar]} [Mary], Full of Grace [Greek titular form}, the Lord is with you/thee!" Yes! [Luk 28] 11) Are our prayers to the righteous/saints/holy ones presented to God (even though He's omniscient)? Yes! [Rev 8:4] 12) Is Jesus the one mediator? Yes! [1 Tim 2:5 *right after 1 Tim 2:1,3*] From 1 thru 12 above, can we *all* ask Mary "Please pray for us sinners"? Amen! Bonus 13) Did Jesus (any unmarried son) love any human more than his mother? Bonus 14) Mary was present at *all* of Jesus' eventful actions, including His hidden life unknown to us. The RCC rationalises Mary, Mother of God, of all people, could both claim "This is my body, this is my blood", and that she shared in His Glory (through Him), and did not die - her Assumption into heaven. Bonus 15) Lev 19:31 and Deut 18:10-14 just says "don't use certain people to commune with the dead". It doesn't say "don't through Jesus pray to those who are in heaven - the saints who are *alive in God*! Bonus 16) But Luk 11:27-28 Jesus says Mary isn't blessed. Um, no, he corrects the random woman's claim that Mary is bless because she carried and fed Jesus. Mary is blessed not from bloodline but by her faith (her actions in Jesus' response to the random woman). Also, we *know* Mary is blessed from Luk 1:42. Bonus 17) Latria (worship of God) vs hyperdulia (veneration of Mary) vs dulia (veneration of saints, relics etc).

"Call no man your Father upon the earth... ye all are brethren" - Jesus Christ Don't try to give me the elementary argument of "do you call your biological father, father?" Jesus was clearly specifically rebuking calling men religious titles within His Church. I.e. "Father so-and-so" He rebuked the Pharisees and Scribes who "liked to be called" these titles. Jesus did not rebuke calling you own father, father or using "father" in a relational or ancestry way.

God doesn't need someone who is dead to help him decide what prayers to answer. The scripture explicitly stated to pray to God. Anything else is idolatry. Asking a living imperfect being like a pastor or family member to pray for you is NOT the same as asking Mary to pray for you. Prayer is not only used for asking for stuff from God but a way for one to come closer to the Lord. You are usurping God's power and undermining this relationship that is formed by prayer by not praying directly to God. Mary and the Saints have done their part. Pray to your father now. Anything else is a demonic deception. 2 Corinthians 11:14 "And no marvel, for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." Clearly, Catholics have not read this chapter. Catholics don't pray TO Mary, eh? I think they call what these guys are doing, "Gaslighting". The Memorare: Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that any one who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful; O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me, Amen. Petitioning something other than God is considered idol worship. You would never find a Jew, for example, praying to King David for his intercession. That practice is strictly of pagan origins and it is not of the God of the bible.
@catherinemcdavid1533
@catherinemcdavid1533 Год назад
Idol worship is believing the material item itself is a God.. You people really are perplexing. Do you not think that Jesus would likely be okay with others adoring and loving his mother? Do you not think God the Father would be a wee bit miffed if you are actually on the side of an argument over honoring the mother of His only begotten Son. Mary is defined through her Son and so, She is the Queen of Heaven just as King David's mother was the Queen, not one of his wives. Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant, as she carried the Word Made Flesh, Mannah from Heaven, and the staff of Aaron (priesthood) all in her womb which were the actual items in the Ark of the Covenant but this time in the flesh. The Ark had the power to destroy any army.. crush the enemies of God's people.. Are you saying that those who believed that and taught the power in the Ark of the Covenant were idol worshipers? David was sure excited when the Ark was in his presence, I believe he danced and offered sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord. Why, because he like gold? lol... Not only that, he had a pretty dope PROCESSION OF THE ARK, similar to that of the people in South America when they hold a procession with an image of the Virgin Mary or a Eucharistic procession. What about the staff/pole with the bronze serpent which the Israelites were instructed to look upon to heal them and protect them from the serpents? Were they worshiping an idol ? Were they healed by the object or by Christ? What about Jesus telling the man to go bathe in the water 7 times, was the power in the water? All mentioned above whether Mary the Mother of God, the material items of the Old Testament, or the consecrated Eucharist obtain their power through their relationship with Christ and with the Father through Jesus Christ.
@GizmoFromPizmo
@GizmoFromPizmo Год назад
@@catherinemcdavid1533 - Christians and Jews don't worship objects. When the children of Israel worshiped and danced before that image made in the wilderness, how did God feel about that? Were they worshiping the material item itself or what that object represented? Obviously, it was what the object represented - the god who delivered them from Egypt. Wasn't that god YHWH? I think it was. I think that's what they were told. I think that's what they believed. Exodus 32:4-5 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the Lord. "Tomorrow is a great feast to YHWH". But wait, it was a statue of a calf (or calves). It represented Yahweh so what's the big deal? They were NOT worshiping gold or whatever, they were worshiping Yahweh. If you read the apocryphal book, The Wisdom of Solomon, (part of the Roman Catholic canon) it goes into great detail about the evolution (or devolution) of idol worship. Bowing down to any "holy object" is forbidden by the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Why are Catholics taught to genuflect in a church building? They are bowing down to the objects of the altar. Why did mom take us kids to church to kneel before a big statue of Mary and then light a votive candle? It's all a form of idol worship. Nobody is taking anything away from that noble Nazarene girl who bore the Son of God. Indeed, she is the blessed mother of my Lord. But to build myth upon myth and raise her to the status of deity is inappropriate and blasphemous. And this pagan worship is all through Catholicism. Why not come back to the original form of Christianity? What was wrong with the faith of our fathers? Why is apostolic teaching so foreign to Catholicism? The short answer is, Power. There is no carve-out for a clergy in the New Testament - it doesn't exist. All of Catholic doctrine exists to support a clergy elite. You don't find any of that in the New Testament. Think about it, if Rome adopted New Testament theology then all of those power positions would immediately go away. There'd be no Vatican City, there'd be no papacy, there'd be no clergy. All you would have left is the rule of the word of God as delivered to the first century apostles and prophets. Think of all the wealth and power that would simply vanish away. You can't serve two masters. You cannot serve God and also mammon. You will wind up loving one and hating the other or you will hold to one and despise the other. As soon as the church got in bed with the empire, that was the end of it. That was the apostasy that has lasted for over 1500 years. Jesus promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against His church. If you look at the bloody history of Catholicism, it's easy to see how the gates of hell have indeed prevailed against that corrupt organization for centuries. Obviously, therefore, Catholicism cannot be the church of Christ.

@@GizmoFromPizmo The children of Israel in the instances I referred to were not worshipping a golden calf. Worshiping the golden calf was condemned by Moses. A calf in relationship to Christ is still a calf. The bronze serpent on the pole which protected and healed the Israelites when they looked to it carried the healing power in the flesh as the healing power of given when we look to Christ on the Cross to heal our souls/save us from sin. God did not condemn them gazing upon the bronze serpent on the pole, they were instructed to do so. To honor, revere, and acknowledge Mary and the Ark of the COVENANT as sacred, holy, and powerful is not idol worship. Both, the Ark of the Covenant and Mary, because they were created either by specific instructions given to man (The Ark of the Covenant) or specifically fashioned/created by God (Mary) for a sacred and holy purpose are not to be looked at as an idol. Because they were created for the purpose of Christ and their identity defined and revealed through Christ, the Ark of the Covenant is no regular box and Mary is no ordinary woman. I invite you to read your Bible, pray, then please give me a logical and/or spiritual explanation as to why The Ark of the Covenant, a box built to the specifics given by God, layered with gold with two gold angels on top with their wings stretched forward, OVERSHADOWING the Ark... an ark which held inanimate objects including, a pot of manna (The Bread that came down from heaven), The 2 stone tablets with the 10 Commandments (The Word of God), and the staff of Aaron (The Priesthood-Aaronic, lower priesthood) was considered sacred, holy, and powerful, so powerful it could crush any army. The Ark of the Covenant, considered so sacred and powerful that anyone touching it who was not a Levitical priest called to handle it, DIED INSTANTLY. But Mary, the Ark of the Covenant in the FLESH, FASHIONED AND CREATED SPECIFICALLY BY GOD to carry The Bread of Everlasting Life, The Word of God, and the Holy Melchizedek Priesthood in the FLESH (not as inanimate objects) is somehow NOT SACRED, HOLY, and POWERFUL by virtue of her relationship (just as the ark) to Christ.

@@catherinemcdavid1533 - Okay, let me hold you right there. Nowhere in the scriptures is Mary referred to as the Ark of the Covenant. This is some fiction made up centuries after the apostles delivered the faith to the church of Christ. In fact, the entire Catholic mythology is based on such inventions. Departing from the word of God is warned against in the scriptures and the Catholic religion wanders far from that faith once delivered. Proper hermeneutics is exegetical in nature. Reading crap into the bible is considered cheating. Nobody treats any other legal document that way but charlatans do that to the bible all the time. So, whereas, your religion is free to go in any and every direction, mine does not have that kind of freedom. I am bound by Thus Saith the Lord. This is why I cannot say things like "Mary is the Ark of the Covenant" because such a statement has no support in law, canon, divine authority. I'm quite sure Catholicism gets stuff like that from Egyptian mythology and the like but that's the nature of the Empire's religion. Roman paganism has long subsumed the local gods and customs into its own pantheon and mythology. Rome's religion is all we have in the Catholic Church. The names and places may have undergone some cosmetic changes - to get past the casual observer - but at it's core, it's just the same old paganism with a fresh coat of paint. So, I'll resume reading your reply but I already know where it's going. Know this: You cannot justify departing from the word of God by holding up a train load of 3rd and 4th century paganism. It doesn't carry any weight.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, would be grieved in her soul if she knew how the Roman Catholic church has venerated her equal to or above Christ as a "Co-Redeemer" with Christ, her Son. Mary was a sinner as you or I and recognized her own need for a saviour in her magnificat, "My soul rejoices in God, my Saviour". Mary was singled out by Almighty God as a highly favoured, virtuous woman, who He chose to be the vessel used to bring Jesus Christ into The World. A person does not have to, nor can they say prayers of intercession to Mary to gain favour with God or Jesus. God will not hear such petitions. We are to pray ( To God The Father, Through Jesus The Son, by the power of The Holy Spirit.) The three persons of the trinity glorify each other as one God in three persons [God The Father, God The Son, God The Holy Spirit - one God forever. Amen! Jesus said, "I AM The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to The Father but by Me!!" Jesus IS the express image of God The Father. As Jesus said to Philip, "If you have seen Me, you have seen The Father!" There is only one mediator between God and man; that is Jesus Christ The Righteous. It was Jesus whos death on the cross and the shedding of His precious blood, which satisfied God's Justice for the sins of all mankind - It wasn't Christ's mother Mary who died for your sins that gives a person Salvation, but the one time, blood-shed, atoning sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf that God recognizes when we pray. Mary cannot hear, answer or intervene on your behalf to God with our prayers!. It is Christ who died for your sins, not His mother! She said , "All generations shall call me blessed!" That is true and we need to have love and respect for who Mary was - Always!! But to pray to her or say a rosary to her, asking for intercession on your behalf or mine, insults The Holy Sprit of Grace and minimizes what Jesus Christ did on our behalf as not being good enough to save us. It's okay to believe in something; just have the Holy Scriptures to back up what you believe. If you believe Mary is an intercessor for you, hears your petitions, or is co-redeemer, equal with her Son, you need to repent of this sinful belief against Almighty God and ask The Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to your heart, according to the truth found in Holy Scriptures and God will forgive you; however, you must ALWAYS pray to God The Father, through Jesus Christ The Son, by the power of The Holy Spirit - there is no other formula of prayer other than this by which we have a saving relationship with Almighty God. We are always to Glorify Jesus for what He has done for sinners on Calvary's Cross - Not to Mary or dead saints, or relics or supposed visions. The enemy (the devil) always speaks through fear and confusion. But The Holy Spirit ALWAYS speaks truth and clarity and peace. It is He who convicts us of sin and our need to confess our sin(s) to God The Father, in the name of Jesus The Son, by the Power of The Holy Spirit. When you ask God's forgiveness, He looks at you through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ and if you believe on Jesus Christ as your saviour and that God has raised Him from the dead, God then sees you as perfect and forgiven because He is now looking at you through Christ finished work and shed blood on The Cross on your behalf, not by anything we can do in our own merit. All our works are as filthy rags before God. That is why Christ's perfect blood sacrifice is the only thing God will recognize. May God Bless you today with His truth, power, clarity and forgiveness, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Mary lived an immaculate perfect life!? That's the entire problem with your argument! There is no one righteous, not even one. We are all born into sin. How could she be without sin if we're all born with sin? The only one to ever live a sinless life was Jesus.

A rose by any other name... Changing what you call "worship" to something else (venerate) is an obvious weasel move. "Oh, I don't worship Mary, I Hyperdulia her." Oh, please... "Venerate" and "hyperdulia" are ways of saying "worship" without saying "worship". It's an obvious dodge. I really cannot wait until Judgment Day when all these tricksters stand before the Eternal Judge and try to weasel out of their idolatry. Thank God for final judgment and eternal damnation!

@@CatholicTalkShow - I understood exactly what you are selling. I've heard this hogwash so many times before it's ridiculous. When a person prostrates himself to the image of a person, animal, or (in the case of Islam) a cube shaped rock, he's worshiping said object. This is the biblical definition of worship. When we were kids, my mom would take us to church to kneel down in front of a statue (usually Mary), light a candle and say a prayer. I understand how it works. I lived it. Changing the label on what you're doing does not hide your sin from God. I'm not committing adultery, I'm just having sexual exercise with my neighbor's wife. See? It's not adultery at all because I changed the label. In the words of Philip J. Fry, "That dog won't hunt, monsignor."

1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” Is Mary, the mother of God, theotokos? The Roman Catholic Church frequently refers to Mary as “The Mother of God.” The phrase is associated with the Greek theotokos which means God-bearer. It is intended to be a term of exaltation and reverence to Mary who bore the Messiah and is especially used by Catholic theologians. “Called in the Gospels “the mother of Jesus”, Mary is acclaimed by Elizabeth, at the prompting of the Spirit and even before the birth of her son, as “the mother of my Lord”. In fact, the One whom she conceived as man by the Holy Spirit, who truly became her Son according to the flesh, was none other than the Father’s eternal Son, the second person of the Holy Trinity. Hence the Church confesses that Mary is true “Mother of God.” (Theotokos), (Catechism of the Catholic Church, par. 495). Now, there is a problem with the term. The phrase “Mother of God” does not occur in Scripture. However, the phrase “mother of my Lord” does. “And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?” (Luke 1:43). So is the title “Mother of God” warranted by Mary? It depends on what is meant by the phrase, as well as what is attached to it. God is a Trinity. Is Mary the mother of the Trinity? No, she is not. But she is the mother of the Lord Jesus, which is why the Bible addresses Mary that way. We should stick what the Bible says, not what it does not say. Mary is called the mother of God in the Catechism of the Catholic Church 29 times in the following paragraphs: 466, 467, 469, 493, 495, 509, 721, 963, 966, 971, 975, 1014, 1020, 1138, 1161, 1172, 1187, 1192, 1195, 2131, 2177, 2502, 2619, 2675, 2677, 2678, 2725, 2827, 2853. Within these paragraphs that call Mary the mother of God, we see some pretty bold statements about her. • “the all-holy ever-virgin Mother of God is the masterwork of the mission of the Son…” (CCC 721) • “The Holy Mother of God, the new Eve, Mother of the Church” (CCC 975) • “our inviolate Lady, the Holy Mother of God…” (CCC 1161) • “This spiritual beauty of God is reflected in the most holy Virgin Mother of God…” (CCC 2502) Such exalted praises of Mary cannot be justified from Scripture. Instead, they are inventions of the Roman Catholic Church. Yes, Mary bore the Messiah who is God in flesh, but she is not the “mother of God” in the sense that she was before Him and/or superior to Him as is what motherhood implies. The Mother of God God, Himself is a supreme being, and the emotional inference of being the “mother of” someone carries with it authority over, maturity beyond, and even superiority. This kind of attitude has led to further errors. • She is called the second Eve, (Mystici Corpois Christ, par. 110) • expressed devotion to Mary, (CCC 971) • They pray to Mary, (CCC 2679) • Mary sits at the right hand of Christ, “(Pope Pius X, 1835-1914, Ad Diem Illum Laetissimum, 14) • Mary is second only to Jesus, (Handbook for Todays Catholic, p. 31) • “so no man goeth to Christ but by His Mother,” (Vatican Website: Encyclical of Pope Leo 13th on the Rosary, Octobri Mense, Pope Leo 13th, 1903-1914) Problems with “Mother of God” As you can see from the above quotes, Mary is highly exalted. Along with her exaltation is the implication that Mary has better access to Jesus because she is his mother and Jesus will listen to his mother. I’ve heard countless Roman Catholics tell me this. Add to this the error that no one goes to Christ but through Mary (Pope Leo 13th), and it should be clear that Mary is being idolized beyond what is appropriate. That is why Roman Catholicism advocates praying to Mary (CCC 2679). This is a problem because this leads to people putting their focus, hope, and prayers in Mary instead of Jesus. This is heresy. It is idolatry. An additional problem is found when we compare Mary in relation to God the Trinity (the teaching that there are three persons in the Godhead, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). When the Catholic Church says that Mary is the “mother of God” there is the possibility of implying that Mary is the mother of the Trinity. Since this is not logically possible, the Catholics would have to understand the term in a different sense. They would, of course, say that Mary is only the mother of the second person of the Trinity, the Word. But they don’t clarify this very often. Instead, they continually use the phrase “mother of God” and leave it open that somehow Mary has a special relationship to God Himself by being the mother of Christ. Again, this is dangerous since it encourages people to take their eyes off of Christ, putting on to the creature: Mary. God is the preeminent one, the most important and praiseworthy being in the universe. God has no “mother.” He is the creator of all things. Motherhood, on the other hand, is a biological function (as it is used in the context of Mary in Roman Catholicism), not one dealing with the nature and essence of God as it relates to a human being who is a mother. But, God has no mother. There is nothing and there is no one before Him, equal to Him, or comparable to Him. We must guard his glory and not give it to another. Finally, the term “mother of God” runs the risk of suggesting that Mary is somehow divine and part of the Godhead. So far, the Roman Catholic Church does not teach this, but there is a movement within Catholic adherents to exalt Mary to the level of divinity. The Roman Catholic Church, so far, has rightly denounced this proposal, but it does not mean that later on there might be a movement that succeeds in elevating her to divinity or semi-divinity. After all, consider the above references that exalt her far beyond what the Scriptures teach. If the Roman Catholic Church can go beyond what is written in Scripture (1 Corinthians 4:6) in disregard to it, who is to say that it won’t eventually elevate her to the status equal to a goddess?

@peterzinya1 But you read it 🙂 Roman Catholicism promotes idolatry in its adoration of Mary. Consider the following as evidence, NOT found in scripture, as support of that assertion: Mary is the all holy one (CCC 2677); second to Eve (Mystici Corpois Christ, par. 110); is prayed to (CCC 2679); sits at the right hand of Christ (Pope Pius X, 1835-1914, Ad Diem Illum Laetissimum, 14); is Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix(CCC 969); the mother of the members of Christ (CCC 963); Queen over all things (CCC 966); brings eternal life by her intercession (CCC 969); helped make atonement for sins (Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma, Ott, page 213); crushed the head of the serpent (Pope Pius IX, Ineffabilis Deus); delivers souls from death (CCC 966). When considering the Church, there is no better way than to look to Mary, (CCC 972). Catholics entrust themselves to Mary’s prayer (CCC 2677). And, no man goeth to Christ but by His Mother,” (Vatican Website: Encyclical of Pope Leo 13th on the Rosary, Octobri Mense, Pope Leo 13th, 1903-1914). Obviously, they elevate Mary to something comparable to a goddess. Now, Roman Catholics will deny this, The Roman Catholic Church has elevated Mary beyond the status declared in Scripture.
