I absolutely agree! I rarely use it all on my body - but I always use it on my face, skipping every now and then

I would say that sunscreen for dark complexion people is more of an optional thing than a mandatory thing. Our chances of contracting any type of melanoma is still incredibly low when compared to other groups of people, especially white people. while it probably does improve the quality of the skin because it is protected from the sun, it’s arguable that the harmful chemicals present within many sunscreens can have an adverse effects that can be worse than that of the sun over overtime. I haven’t worn sunscreen in 15 years and my skin has been just fine. all of my people are still in the Caribbean most not wearing any sunscreen at all.

im wearing sunscreen always. so many benefits for me. less hyperpigmentation, better for my eczema and kp, lower risk of skin cancer. there are better ways to get vitamin d, id rather focus on improving my diet.

I’ve noticed such improvement in my skin once I started wearing sunscreen. I didn’t wear a sunscreen until I started going to an esthetician. Awesome vlog!!! TY❤

African people have been protecting our skin longer than many people have existed, i truly do not understand where this idea that people with deep skin tones do not need sunscreen. Deep skin tones have a spf of around 3 to 10 if im not mistaken, the recommended daily minimum spf (applied perfectly) is 30 which is why getting spf 50 and just reapplying through the day is important every 2 hours during warmer/sunny months. Deep skin tones are incredibely sensitive, and need to be protected because even a single scratch can cause hyperpigmentation which can be difficult to treat.

✨🌴✨Black People Do Not Need Sunscreen. As Tinuola Said, The Skin Cancers That We Most Commonly Get Are Not Caused By The Sun. We Should Look Into Overall Skincare And Skin Health Measures. ✨🌴✨
@Tinuola

@@Chimaoges_Comments the most common skin cancer in BP isn’t caused by sun exposure, however BP can still get other skin cancers that are caused by sun exposure. Therefore it’s good to wear sunscreen and sun protecting clothes to prevent cancer exposure. 🫶🏽✨

Thanks for covering this sis! First you look stunning and consequently remind me how stunning I am as well. So thanks! Then, I think the higher SPF is usually recommended to dark skin people because they are the ones who are more prone to hyperpigmentation and are using harsh skin treatment to treat that. Without a high SPF, things might get worse. Love u and all my sisters. Stay attractive in all ways!

Your skin color is natural sunscreen. You don't need sunscreen.

I thought so! Bc, I’ve seen some dark ppl get darker like Caucasian ppl. But, when they get dark it’s skin cancer. So that’s why I thought we ALL still need sunscreen.
@cookie22100
@cookie22100 Месяц назад
A lot of them turn red and peel, only some of them are able to actually turn brown. Sometimes some of them have to go to the burning and peeling stage before getting to the stage of turning brown. Others have no ability whatsoever. Sun poisoning is sadly a common thing for them.

one thing i think is interesting about acral lentiginous melanoma, the areas that it occurs (palms, soles, and nails) tend to be some of the lightest pigmented areas on a dark skinned person. and it happens at the same rate between skin colors - it's just that for dark skinned people, they have a lower rate of other locations, enough so it becomes the most likely location for dark skinned people. so those both also may point to melanin's protective effect, but that it is insufficient in those areas as well as some melanoma being not caused by sunlight (rare cases of primary in internal organs for example)

I used to be all about sunscreen, but honestly, my skin looks better without it. I wear if going outside for prolonged time along with sunhats and sunglasses. I think it is a marketing ploy even from Black derms.

🤦🏽‍♀️you just need to find the right sunscreen. It’s not a marketing ploy. Go ahead and ruin your skin if you want💁🏽‍♀️

It is kinda wild to say skin cancer is "popular". 😅 I think a better word would be "prevelant".

I personally do not use it because I am top up on my vit D.., but I am aware that some black people use a higher SPF, is more about reducing the chance of them getting darker. Science also suggests that suncream are carcinogenic (cancer causing?
@pearlcnrd
@pearlcnrd Месяц назад
@@MoIsReal-g1u everything can be carcinogenic, and what studies are you referring to? African people have been protecting their skin from the sun longer than many people have existed. So I do not particularly understand how you think sunscreen is only for prevent skin from getting darker.
@cookie22100
@cookie22100 Месяц назад
@@pearlcnrd that’s not what they’re saying at all. Being dark complexioned, our chances of contracting any type of melanoma, is certainly not comparable to the higher rates of which white people contract it. Sunscreen can be more harmful to you than the sun itself, assuming you have the complexion to protect yourself against the sun.
@cookie22100
@cookie22100 Месяц назад
same, I haven’t used sunscreen in over 15 years. I don’t think it’s helps me more than my own melanin and does. And it’s more cancerous to me than the sun could ever be.
