When I was competing I really liked to use foot sweeps in defense, when the opponent attacks aggressively, I backup only for half a step, and at that point, I sweep his front attacking foot and finish with a counter-attack. A good technique that is not used in the octagon very often!

I'd say foot sweeping for the late rounds honestly, especially vs a tired opponent and flat footed.

Good call. I usually set it up after blitzing in a few times. Makes them take a step back leaving little weight on the fron foot.

@@pafightclub7993 Well it happened sometimes that I couldn't sweep them because there was too much weight on th efront foot and the friction of the mat would keep the foot in place. And the rules I fight in don't allow kicks to the calf, so I can't put too much oomph into it. Them being light makes it easier to put a lot of momentum in the sweep without actually kicking them. It usually spins them around 90 degrees and they flail their arms because they'd lose balance. This usually opens up a really nice lead punch (lead because I switch to open stance when doing the sweep) to the jaw or around the ear, since their defence is out of the way and they're off balance.

I like using it to punctuate a combo as an exit strategy since I usually step out at an angle when I do it so it’s very low risk high reward. If I only get a stumble I’ll follow with a cross, turning wheel kick, or a blast double as they come back up

As a karate guy and point fighter guy, I prefer the front foot sweep defensively. I try to catch my opponents front foot as they setnit down when they are pushing forward. Boot to boot. It takes practice and timing but very effective.

I use foot sweeps a lot in sparring, the difficulty is trying to regain footing and immediately closing distance for follow-up strikes or whatever. It's especially funcatching someone's foot as soon as they're trying to put weight on it LOLOL 😂

The sweeps work well if you do security or in Law Enforcement. Especially when you have them facing a wall or gate. You kick their legs or one leg apart and make them do the splits. It makes it harder for an individual to turn and attack you.
