Are free phone GPS acceleration timing apps accurate... or at least accurate enough? I'm going to do a bunch of test runs and analyze the results using one of the most popular apps! 0-30MPH, 0-60MPH, 60ft, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile.

If you want a little better app, Track Addict is usually pretty good to me. Theyre probably still a lil wonky though, theyre more made to mount in cars to measure track times and such

Great video man. I used this app while averaging all the runs when posting results for my aerox 100 engine. Along with that racing channel which gives you a neat graph yo show any dead spots in acceleration. Though you will need many runs to get semi accurate readings just like the app displayed In the video

I think all apps will be very similar in accuracy due to phone limitations. The TRC app does look good with their timeslips, and it gives more data. Never tried it, but looked it up. EDIT : That should probably read; all apps without add-on GPS units.

@@49ccscoot very true. The trc app helped me get some good insight on where my scoot is losing acceleration. (Specially with the stock rear guides) so I like to switch between the two for references. I wonder if a draggy unit can be wired easily for a scooter 😄
@49ccscoot
@49ccscoot 2 года назад
@@X7rocks The dragy is super simple. Just bluetooth connection to your phone and put it in a spot where it gets a good GPS signal. It's got magnets in it, but we'd have to ziptie it or use double-sided tape or adapt it to a GoPro mount or something.... or just try a pocket and see if it gets good signal. It's got a USB port that is for charging it AFAIK, but as long as it's charged I think you're good to go with wireless. The only reason I don't have one is because it's not free. lol

@@49ccscoot yeah the 150 is kinda a hefty price tag but definitely seems like a good long term investment for the scoots or car projects. Plus would be cool to have a leader board full of different scooters and different set ups so we can all compare times and notes 😁

@49ccscoot 2 года назад
@@X7rocks The price isn't bad IMO, if you're going to use it much. The track near me wanted me in a a full leather race suit to drag race a scooter. Between the price of that and the idea of me in a leather suit, the dragy is pretty attractive.

I need to try this with y 4t china scoot, especially since it's running decently, it can push the speedo well past any numbers, and I weigh 330-335, the high compression airsol piston and large valve head, with mild porting, and exhaust and intake, I imagine a stock 150 runs about the same, it definitely had more TQ, and low to mid power, and needs CVT tuning , and carb tuning, probably can use a valve adjustment, but it's past due for the first oil change, I have a zinc additive, and high tac to go with the synthetic oil, with all the low end TQ, I'm thinking ear swap, until the rear pulley 'changes gears' it almost pulls the front wheel, with a near stock CVT, it only has 4g and 6 or 7 g weights, sliders, so equal to 3x 10g or 11gsliders, with a light spring, the blue. Contra spring, and seems like it could have stiffer clutch springs, I notice since it's getting warmer, the CVT needs tuning, because it's revving higher, acting different, I think it can use possibly a gram heavier weights, maybe swap in the ncy adjustable rear pulley, make it change gears a bit better, it's very pronounced now, it kinds paused, I had it before like it kinda jumped, then kept accelerating, but the engine didn't have the power to accelerate , it did great down hill slightly, I'd like to get a tru race cam, that peaks around 9500-9800 possibly 10k rpm, be at it only needs power from 5kup, it does maintain 45-50kph on slight hills now, 20-30kph faster than before, I'm thinking about swapping in my Yamaha 22mm carb, it has a Japanese 20mm on it now, it measures 22.4, 22.6maybe, the 20, is 20.1mm, better than Amazon, that 19.4!! Haha I don't know how many I ordered that was 18-19mm carbs listed as 20mm, the ncy cam does seem to be a TQ monster, runs great for 81-83cc what ever it comes to !! 41.4x 50mm, I'd like to cut about . 050" off the jug, to get more squeeze, I lightened the piston as much as I felt comfortable, trying to get it close to the stock 39mm piston, it seems to helped, it runs smoothly, alot better than the other engine!! Goes to 10k smoothly!! I have to actually watch the throttle in 35mph zones, before by the time it got to speed I'd have to stop, I wish I ported the head a bit better. Maybe rigged a flow bench, and shaved the head and or jug, the piston is about . 080-.100 in the hole, the 23mm intake valve is much better than the 18, 16/18mm valves, is a joke. The 20/23is much better, I have another head I can put my finger through, I can use a 150cc intake on it, but that a bit much for a daily! Good day 👍

It's actually an aluminum door handle for big glass doors. I got it for a few dollars at a local wrecked tractor trailer load salvage place long ago. It turned out to work very well with just a couple of cuts. I welded the bolt on mounts for it to the frame. They were made of 1/8" wall black iron plumbing pipe. Stiffens it up quite a bit.

I don't think the GPS in a phone refreshes nearly often enough for this kind of thing. The Dragy works great, there are videos on here of people using them at drag strips and comparing the times. It's a little GPS unit with a magnet, just a much better GPS than the one in your phone. Gives you little speed/g force charts too so you can see where your trans shifts and everything. I like how thoroughly you tested in this vid btw. edit: i wrote this before finishing the video, can you tell

I noticed on Street Outlaws that someone (I think Chuck but I can't recall for sure) mentioned their dragy saying they ran a 4.XX. I figured they were using some fancy onboard stuff. With all of the money those folks have to play with racing related stuff, that's a pretty good endorsement to me... paired with RU-vid vids of testing as you mentioned.

My A1C went to diabetic range about 4 months ago and my doc advised cutting carbs back. I got totally out of the diabetic and pre-diabetic range in 4 months. My eating habits could still use a lot of change, but I'm about 10lb lighter right now so at least it's the right direction. The hard part is always sticking to it, so we'll see. It's not like I'll ever be a 150lb rider regardless.

@@49ccscoot Organic fruit. The first 5 digit number group on a bar code starts with 9 is truly organic. Bar codes starting with 8 or 3 are GMO designed to eventually get you reliant on big pharma one way or another. 4 is conventional pesticides/herbicides etc. Other numbers im not positive on the meaning. Its a process not an event. ;)
@FremontidaeScott
@FremontidaeScott 2 года назад
That's not how it works. #1, even if a UPC theoretically may designate "organic," that's absolutely no guarantee that it actually was grown to NOP standards. #2, simple sugars are simple sugars, and getting them from an organic source doesn't make them any better for someone trying to cut them out.
@Bradwick1
@Bradwick1 2 года назад
@@FremontidaeScott UPC does not designate a standard other than non gmo which means no genetic targeted herbicides that are taken up by the roots and also used as descants after harvest. Is corn syrup a simple sugar? Processed or modified sugars may taste the same but are very different from organic in composition as well as how the body uses them.
@FremontidaeScott

@@Bradwick1 Ok fam, I'm going to tell you this and I want you to listen: Fruit is full of fructose as well as glucose, fructose being associated with fruit and worse for you than glucose. Fructose and glucose are both monosaccharides, and fructose is fructose is fructose, and glucose is glucose and glucose. Your body cannot tell if you got it from a kiwi or a magic genie. You're giving advice that could make a person worse off. Any doctor is going to tell somebody who needs to stay away from simple sugars that they should limit their fruit intake. As far as UPC/PLU, gmo and organic, it all means very little. Farmers go after an organic label so they can charge more. Do you want to know how I know that? Because they told me. I'm an entomologist and biologist, I've talked to farmers of every stripe about conventional v organic, and studied the NOP in the course of graduate work. some small businesses would not be able to remain in operation without that sticker because... marketing. Very small farmers often don't even bother, they know their clientele and their clientele knows their practices. And none of these things have any bearing on the *healthiness* of whatever product is in question. Not all crops treated with systemics are gmo, for starters. and then there's the debate over the safety of GMOs, various pesticides, etc ad nauseam. The gist is that the dramatic misinformation and oversimplification you gave is not doing anybody any good. And it sounds like he can take care of himself.

Unfortunately phone gps only updates once ever second, so the movement detection can be off by a bit. It has to estimate your finishing speed too because you may be 27 at one interval and 33 at the next. Most of the apps have a gps strength bar, so you can go to a location with good service and hopefully get more reliable results

I am using Sigma MC 1812 MOTO (50$) as the cheapest substitute for my broken speedo, it has a lot of functions, but I don't know how accurate realy is. There is many magnet driven aftermarket speedometers, also with drag meters, shouldn't they be more accurate than gps?
@49ccscoot
@49ccscoot 2 года назад
I use GPS to calibrate my speedometer, but I use distance traveled instead of just comparing MPH to adjust. I suggest at least a couple of miles for a trip to compare. Then you can consider comparing longer trips if you'd like. That seems to make them very accurate, as far as I can tell. I'm right on when I pass RADAR signs and with displayed speed on a GPS or app. That's about as good as most of us are going to get. Keep in mind that for speed display only, if you weren't worried about calibration for race timing, a couple MPH is close enough. Most stock speedometers are 5% optimistic at least. I think the Dragy or similar is probably about as accurate as it's going to get without track timing systems. Speed sensor based gauges could probably be accurate, depending on the circumstances. Most use the front wheel. If your scoot gets the wheel up, then it's not going to be accurate. If you used the rear wheel, then any slip or spin of the tire would make it inaccurate. They also would have to be calibrated as accurately as possible. GPS vs onboard trip odometer should get one close enough.

The G-Force Performance Meter from years ago had a horsepower estimation function. I don't think it was incredibly accurate anyway, but it was really swayed by user input. With as good as the dragy is today, I'd imagine a better version could be made... but it probably won't work nearly as well as the acceleration function if I had to guess.

Some of the reports were of the camera losing it's ability to focus properly within a ride or 2. The two-stroke seems like a pretty extreme case too, because not many bikes are riding around at 10-14k pretty much all of the time when moving. Not worth the risk to me since it did work and show 100% GPS in my pocket. I've also personally worn out USB connections on multiple GPS units from having them on scoots and broken camera mounts and broken cameras and lost one GoPro when the mount broke off. My rear-facing GoPro has to have a large rubber cushioned mount. They make vibe-dampening stuff for phone mounts, but I don't know if I'll get one.
