Do honeypot locations make you a better photographer? In today's video I share my thoughts on this highly debated topic.
This is the first video in a series of videos shot in Eryri National Park in North Wales. Today we're in the valley of Rhyd Ddu at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and i'm following the Snowdonia Slate Trail, exploring the landscapes and abandoned quarry buildings along the shores of Llyn Y Gader.

Thanks for watching everyone! What are your thoughts on honeypot locations? Do you enjoy visiting popular photo locations or do you enjoy finding new locations? 📸 Always great to hear your thoughts! 🙏🏻

Nice perspective on honeypot locations. For me, whenever I'm at a place where there is a clear subject, I usually shy away from the most obvious shot, idk if that's my instinct to be different or something else but yeah I always try to aim at a different perspective of looking at things instead of the first shot, in my mind there's always this thing that the obvious would've been taken a thousand times over, I need to be different

@@sushantkhare8467 thanks for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment! I really appreciate it! Your approach is one I take if I ever do visit popular locations! There’s always a unique perspective to be found if you look hard enough! 👌🏻😊

I never heard of that term, but I know it now! I think a lot of social media pushes the goal of a grand honey pot image. it’s true I think when one is learning you copy what you like and make it a goal. But that gets boring I gravitate toward the intimate landscape and abstracts and now I’m working on blends. But like you, I do take the grand shot just to record it and then I look within that shot or the big scene and gravitate toward the area that intrigues me. I did just return from the Dolomites on a ski trip and I couldn’t help but take grand landscapes and those honey pot shots.!!

I think you're absolutely right, it is the social media effect in many ways, those iconic compositions often do well on Instagram etc but I don't find sharing those types of photos brings me much satisfaction these days! I love that you're gravitating towards intimate landscapes and abstracts, those types of subjects really provide so much opportunity for creativity - it's something i've been drawn to as well over the last year! The less obvious subjects are often the more interesting ones! Thanks for taking the time to comment and for sharing your thoughts, I really appreciate it! And I hope you enjoyed your trip to the Dolomites, that's a landscape i'd love to see - looks beautiful!

Thanks for taking the time to check out the video mate! Really appreciate the kind words! Definitely recommend it, the area around Rhyd Ddu is really beautiful and feels quote 'off the beaten track'. Loads of great places to explore as i'll be showing over the next few weeks 👌🏻

I'm a history nerd. I would have gotten stuck in the ruins and never left.
