A great question from Veronica. In this video, I give 2 reasons why I don't remove mulch under my roses every year. I also recommend a great tool I use to remove leaves from under roses.

An other great video. Thanks for the tip about the blower. I have a big leaf blower that is very powerful but I do like this smaller one for little jobs. And I have other Ryobi tools so I might have to add an other to the famly :) I would worry about blowing spores from the dreaded black spot mold around when using a blower but that's not really a problem for me in my garden *knock on wood*

Oh, that black spot. Maybe you have a point there about blowing it around....

@@OlgaCarmody Well I hope any experienced Rosarian wouldn't use mulch at all if they have a black spot problem so as to not allow it to grow. Gotta keep the beds clean if black spot is a problem.

Hi Olga! How are you? Did you have a video on Roald Dahl? I cannot find one in yours but I know you had it I have purchased 5 this year from DA and thanks to you this time it’s own root.
@OlgaCarmody
@OlgaCarmody Год назад
I didn't do a separate video about Roald Dahl, I did show it in one of my walk around garden videos, don't remember where though. I am planning to showcase them next year during their stronger growth. I also have 5 of them, still blooming in the front of my garden. How did yours do this season? Mine got some black spot...We really had hard and dry summer..

Hi Olga! Your roses are beautiful. Thank you for this video. I have a question. I have a carding mill DA rose that is always riddled with disease. I've had it for a few years and its not growing, stays small, and the leaves are always riddled with black spot/yellow spot. I want to help this rose as its sentimental to me since I received it for mothers day about 4 years ago now. i have tried keeping it from touching other plants to improve circulation, and still the issues persist. Do you have any advise for "curing" this rose of these persistent issues? Thanks.

Hm, those sentimental plants! I have plenty of those as well, which are not the best performers in my garden. I would invest heavily into healthy soil, some roses are prone to diseases, what can we do... Don't over love it, do a really good sanitation, since diseases overwinter under the bush. I would go ahead and remove all the mulch or whatever you have around that rose in spring, install fresh and new one. Basically you want to break the year cycle of black spot. Hope it helps..

@@OlgaCarmody Thank you so much! I don't have much mulch there, just some compost, black kow is what I use because the bagged is easier. I will leave it over winter, and then clean up in Spring, but digging up some of the compost, and adding a bag of fresh. I also considered digging it up and babying it in a pot, but then I have to overwinter it etc. Do you overwinter roses in pots at all?
@OlgaCarmody
@OlgaCarmody Год назад
I don’t grow roses in pots. I don’t have good space to overwinter them here in Connecticut. How about those beautiful glass green houses? Which cost a million to buy and sustain….
@3menandalady273
@3menandalady273 Год назад
@@OlgaCarmody lol Yeah, I don't have a beautiful glass greenhouse either. I am not far from you, over in Massachusetts. As for the overwinter in pots, yes that doesn't sound fun. And I do have an unheated shed, but not sure about watering, how often etc. I'm going to just leave it be and replace the compost in late winter/early spring. Thank you!
