Another benefit of Owning your own rig ,is that you know the equipment you are using has been serviced regularly , stored correctly and treated with respect, this will give you added confidence in the water. I am still using my scubapro mk10, G250 combo that I bought in 1994!

Plus, if the equipment ever was to fail, it was your own fault. Not someone elses carelessness leading to your trouble

I say yes get your own gear depending on how much you dive. What did it for me was using a dirty rental reg 🤢. My goal was from there was to have my own gear. At the least get your own regs. Now I am set to get everything by the end of the week. 😁

Don't buy bcd, first decide do you like jacket stayle, if you don't like it, buy backplate and wing 1. Mask 2. Computer 3. Maybe regs or suit 4. DSMB

Do I need to have my own gear? Not necessarily but it is preferable and a very good thing to have once the training is finished. Rental gear usually comes in three sizes: too big, too small and lucky.

Bought my complete own gear at once. Got the OWD cert free of charge. Still using my regs today. Always travel with it. Can’t remember ever using rental gear, besides a torch or some sort of supportive „comfort“ equipment.

you might want to purchase your own mask if you wear glasses. you can get your prescription in a dive mask fairly inexpensively.

On a liveaboard trip the TSA inspection managed to pop off the purge button and not put it back in the bag. I had to use a rental 1st stage and hated it. On a dive with my son my BC leaked and had to rent one. Hated having to feel around for the pockets. On other trips I've seen divers struggle with rental gear and in some places it isn't maintained, just repaired when it stops working :(

#askmark hello mark 1st of all love ur videos very informative. Am new to diving so I got the mares 15x rover regulator I would like to know what other mares 2nd stage compatible with the 15x.

Its such a bummer that I will first be able to get my certificate next year, since my budget right now, is nowhere near large enough to get a certificate and buy proper gear. BUT I really do look forward to experince scuba diving

You do not want to use the same regulator after someone, who had seasick before you. Even, if Dive center assure you, that they are cleaning regs every day. What they usually don't. They just rinsing it in fresh water, let's be honest. 🤢

My man, I am looking to buy my wife her own regulator set up and need advice. We are recreational divers mostly in the Caribbean. I alway catch her holding the regulator in her mouth saying she feels like her jaw gets tired and it is uncomfortable. What are some good first and second stage regulators you think we should look at for her?

Not really a question for me. As I am Nearsighted. And require Rx Lenses. I'm not a Certified Diver. But do alot of Snorkeling. And have Wrecked 3 Snorkels, 1 Mask, and 3 sets of Fins in the last year. Using a Saltwater Pool. And I do rinse my gear afterwards in the shower. I'm Swimming 10-13 Miles per week.
