Nahh none of that stuff needed. In my experience power boats operator are the most incompetent boaters and in Europe most need a licence anyway to operate them. Sailors are more responsible especially when they own their boats and usually have more experience because of sailing at a younger age. Having said that a lot of holiday charter/rental sailors and power boat operators have seen in the med operate the vessel they have hired thanks to a newly obtain licence and are a danger to other. Unless you wanna go commercial, I cannot see why you would want a licence. It is our last freedom for transportation for God sake!
@@coldhearts5699 in the UK you don’t need a license to operate a sailing vessel privately and motorboats only in certain circumstances but most do not need a licence anyway. I don’t know what law you are referring to but it is unlikely that you will have a law not allowing people born a certain to operate a vessel differently to the one in born the years before and after.
@@ymk8355 in the uk u need a boater licence it doesnt matter what state ur in If ur not born In 1988 U dont need a licence if ur born after 1988-1999 U Need a licence Every Person that is not Bornn In The 1900s Need a Boater Licence if u get pulled over Riding a power vessel in uk ur gonna get finned $200
@@coldhearts5699 I think you are referring to inland waters. At sea you do not need any qualifications or licence to operate a boat whatever your age as long as it is used in a private capacity. However all at sea you must comply with the merchant shipping act. The MCA is the competent body enforcing the law of the sea. You also don’t necessarily need insurance for your vessel nor need to register your vessel (up to a certain size 24m I think) in UK waters. However you must have a ship radio licence for the boat and a operator licence to operate the vhf. I own a few boats and never had to show anything to anyone in UK waters and abroad only the ship registration papers and insurance when sailing on a UK registered vessel. At home here 97% of the inhabitants operating boats (at sea) in my area do not have any licence or qualification and still operate motorboats with 2x300hp at the back and some are under 18 and the police hasn’t fined nor arrested a single one of them because it is all legal.
@@ymk8355 yes it does what happens when u get pulled over and dont got a licence To show u get a penalty and u get a fine 😂😂 u cant operate a vessel without a lisence
@totower my question is more where in the world skippers licence are compulsory and where not. im not questioning the reason for having one.....myself , i feel comfortable to sail anywhere without a licence, i have the experience and interest to learn what i can about boats and sailing. Im simple wondering where it is enforced by law and where not. also would be interesting what would be the situation if you sail into a territory ,that require a licence , without one...... what do thy do and how do thy deal with you. knowing that maritime law does not allow them to deny you shelter and aid and provision.......
