Watching Delos is part of why we decided to do the same thing. We left the States 6 years ago and love the lifestyle. We met the Delos crew in Grenada several years ago and they were very down to earth. We are now in Thailand and plan to stay in Southeast Asia for a while.
He also saves a lot of money by fixing everything himself. If I remember right from the other videos he put himself through college by working as an electrician for the power company. It's amazing what he can fix himself. Certainly puts in a lot of very hard labor to keep that boat going.
I saw another video detailing the cost to cruise. The same boat, young guy made money in tech with hot girl, but he had all upkeep done by professionals. That seemed to add about $25k/year to costs and he was continually scheduling. He didn't seem less burdened even though Amel has one of the best support networks and the boat was in the age "sweet spot". I am into sailboat design and often see guys who think they can build a sailboat to save money. I always tell them that if they have even half the talent that takes they should work fixing others boats and put that money rehabbing an old sailboat. It will get them on the water in less than half the time and every port they visit will be an employment opportunity.
@@MarketingStrategies28 The very point of Patreon is to sponsor people in some activity - blogging, video making, etc - that you the sponsor consume. SV Delos consistently puts out videos week after week. You can't really begrudge them success in getting enthusiastic sponsors.
This story made me feel real warm. Also, I like that he talks about the costs of his lifestyle. It’s never perfect, but what a beautiful life you can have!
Brian & Brady - legends that birthed the YT sailing genre. They've inspired so many, me included. Five bareboat charters as skipper under my belt now, Aegean, Ionian and Adriatic. Thanks Breeyawn and Senõr Brady, changed my life!
Proud to say I've followed them since they were in South Africa, I've met them at the Annapolis boat show, and I've talked to Brady via email several times asking advice about various cruising related things.. They are a wonderful, loving, down to earth family and it isnt an exageration to say that they've changed my life just by being true to themselvse and living life. Happy to be a member of the Delos Tribe!!
So cool to see them now! I remember discovering their channel a few years back, when their daughter was but a tiny baby! Now she's fully part of this amazing adventure! Few of us get to live life to our fullest potential, I see this as an inspiration!
FWIW, the boat is an Amel Super Maramu. They are a bit unique in offering a boat that is surprisingly manageable by 1 while looking like a terrestrial home. There are tougher boats. There are "push button" to sail boats, but these are unique in doing both without looking like a tank. The company has gone upscale since this boat was produced to the $1M+ market. The predecessor of this boat is the 46ft "Maramu" that can be purchased used and fitted for cruise for ~100k. Before the pandemic I was ready to jump on a plane to Greece to do exactly that. If you are planning to support a cruising lifestyle with YT vids you need a hot woman -that might be more more cost and trouble than the sailboat.
Well. I was wondering where he found the girl... And my advice to you - go to NZ or AU, you might just find one ;). But thank you for an info on the boat. I thought it was 45-footer, cause it would suffice. Also, I was questioning him waiting for a boat to "happen" in the US, instead of going somewhere to pick it.
I followed their channel for a bit when his brother was on board. Very genuine and down to earth people ❤️ Definitely cool the adventures they get to go on and the sites and memories their daughter gets to experience.
I started watching Delos few years back. I binge watched their journey twice now. Their videos helped me with my anxiety and loneliness. So happy to see them getting featured in CNBC. ❤❤
Brain and Delos were a large part of the reason I personally chose to take two years off and travel the world--including a portion of it sailing. They're ability to take a camera behind the experience, to humanize the things they saw and people they met, and to share their in their lives were a genuine gift that changed my DNA too...including 35 new countries visited and even a few places they've been.
Been following them for years, Brian and his family are awesome and have a wonderful channel. Got me dreaming of a boat, and now that I'm remote seriously looking into it.
Im an OG delos subscriber. Their channel has gone from party party to a full on wholesome family channel, with a little bit of party party still. Lol Brian, Kaz, and Sierra are genuinely the best people on RU-vid And good on this film crew on showing the wall of shame. 😂
this is not my kinda lifestyle. While i do travel 4-5 months per year on average, the fact that i have a home to return to at the end of each trip gives me comfort. Normadic lifestyle is too much. I like my own bed, neighbourhood, and grocery store lol. But good for him, everyone deserves to do what they r most comfortable with
I totally agree, I traveled a lot in my life, but now I’m pretty much liking to stay stationary. To each his own, but I love a place to keep myself and myself my stuff, my own bed, and a fridge with food.
I’ve been with you since day one. You’re like family to me and I never miss an episode. While I really miss all of your crew members, Sierra and Karen bring so much love and joy to your remarkable adventure. Thanks for sharing.
I'm a regular Friday viewer and contributor to the Delos youtube channel. Some of the best Vblogging you can see... and getting better with every episode. Binge watched them during COVID - have seen every one of the 400+ episodes. Feel like part of the family, or "Tribe" as they call it... The scuba diving episodes are my favorites.
The views is amazing....not sure if myself could live in small cramped quarters & besides, I don't do well with sea sickness. The lifestyle of being your own boss & charting your own course is definitely one to envy. 😊⛵️🏝🐠
AWWW the most loveable RU-vid sailing channel, SV DELOS! If you're just discovering them from this, start on some of their earlier videos and just play them video to video like a movie. It's a wonderful channel.
Brian is one of 199 people that have actually sailed around the world and his wife when they cross her tracks will become one too. She got on the boat in New Zealand.
For the idiots in here that think they are doing this because it's affordable: 1. It's a $400,000 boat. 2. It's an asset that doesn't appreciate in value. 3. They have the luxury not to have a 9-5 that requires them in person. 4. He had to save up, sell everything and he still ended up making out his credit cards. 5. They still almost went bankrupt and had to work random jobs to get by. This was not a house replacement. This was a lifestyle decision.
Great video! I subscribed to Delos years ago and have enjoyed living vicariously through them, and the almost countless crew they've sailed with over that time (all their pictures in the salon). My father was a sailor in his younger days and I'm working my way toward that dream myself.
SV Delos I've been following almost 4 years now wow. great people. When I started watching following them I started from video 1 well the beginning , And I powered watched until I caught up to what you'd call real time for subscriber, And they are what 4, 5 ,6 weeks behind. anyhow overall great to follow and now because of Brian, Karin Brady, Alex(Blue) I am following 1/2 dozen other channels. There really is another life out in the deep blue. Thankyou Delos
This is marvelous, thanks Brian!! You have really done what many people daydreamed about. I'm relieved to hear that you are thinking ahead towards a semi-normalised lifestyle for your child as she gets older, as that is a serious concern.
Living with your daughter on land with her family during school and then off on the boat during summer vacation would be my suggestion. Our Brazilian Mother was from Niteroi, across the famous Fast Five bridge to Rio and we spent the school year in the USA and summer`s in Brazil.😎
Totally. I was shocked at the transformation when they showed his old photos. Apparently (some) cool humans are made not born. Almost makes me feel like abandoning everything and getting on a boat myself.
Yeah, we have been watching Delos for years and it has motivated us to buy a boat too….just…when the RU-vid Illusion fades the hard reality of costs and always breaking stuff and never ending « projects » begins…. Making you realize that only money will produce these dreams. The most wicked thing is that one job always produces five others and you wake up in the morning with your mind running around the issues. We loved the beginning of Delos, with their wild adventures, while Senor Brady was still around….. now it has become a family show and the spiciness faded a bit…..but still, thanks for the happy moments watching the initial part of your journey, Brian & Brady.
LOVE YOU GUYS . IM 64 AND MY HEART WILL ALWAYS BE ON THE WATER ,SAND AND COCONUT TREES. BORN IN BELIZE CENTRAL AMERICA LIVE IN FLA. YOU ALL ARE AMAZING AND YOU ARE THE MOST HUMBLE GUY I KNOW (APART FROM MY DAD) LOL. LOVE LITTLE NUGGET. KEEP SAILING BROTHER WE WILL MEET UP ONE OF THESE DAYS I LOVE YOUR MERCH ALSO JUST GOT MY DELOS RASHGUARD AND LOVING IT. GOD BLESS.
Wow... nice sweet, short and not too complicated. I bought a horse ranch in 1990. It was that or a 49' Transpac CC. your videos over the years let me experience both life styles. Thanks. Can't live two dreams at the same time. Unless your Jimmy Buffet.
I wonder if they did decide to go part-time on the boat and part-time on land what that would look like, or if it's the same as it is now -- three months at a time in a different country. It's definitely a dream to be able to travel the world, but in all instances it's still a lot of work; just a different kind.
I'll call bulls#!t on $1900/month budget. I live aboard and cruise on a smaller, much less complex boat that costs about 1/4 of what Delos did. Wear and tear on sails, rigging, engine components, pumps, electronics, and many other things adds up. One oft-quoted rule of thumb calls for 10% to 20% of the value of the boat to be spent each year keeping her seaworthy. In my case, I have to put aside about $15,000 / year ($1250/month) for replacing things as they wear out. OK, rant over. Best thing I ever did was to quit my job and go sailing. This young family is living the dream. I just think they're misrepresenting the true cost of living that dream.
@@Audreylin29I lived the same life for a long time. About 7 years ago, I figured I wanted a different life and put a 5 year plan together which included buying a boat. A year ago I quit work and spent the past Spring sailing in the Bahamas. Currently getting ready to leave the US and head to the Caribbean. It’s doable if you really want it so I encourage you to think big!
While they are paid to live an awesome life. Kinda makes me want to sink the boat. But of course it would probably make them MORE popular and he would crowd fund a new massive expensive sail boat and laugh like a maniac on RU-vid as dolphins splash behind him somewhere near the Seychelles.
I first started watching their RU-vid channel during Covid. Definitely got me thinking about the hamster wheel we all seem to run in and options to escape the grind.
Gaarrr! - ❤ Nice submission - Sierra is a True Sailor & Child of the Seas, since she began her Life at Sea ❤... Love the idea. Wish me luck with My Investment Portfolio😅😂
He’s SPENDING $1900/month on the boat itself! He makes WAY more than that. It’s funny that these RU-vidrs, especially the ones who use “crowdfunding, aka Patreon, don’t like to admit how much money they make. Many people who pay into Patreon are just regular folks making $30-50K per year and they don’t understand that channels like SV Delos are bringing in $500K\yr or more based on sponsorships. I personally just don’t like that they take that money from folks who really can’t afford it. RU-vidrs try to claim that they’re putting out videos out of the goodness of their hearts and that they ONLY make money through Patreon/crowdfunding, which is complete B.S.! I’ve been watching SV Delos for more than 10 years and they are one of the Sailing channel OGs, but since they had the babby, they have also become some serious e-beggers. Their original videos were all about cruising the world with friend and having fun. At the end of each video they would have a “buy us a beer” link, which was obviously for donations…but it was subtle. The videos have become kind of boring and they are no longer subtle about asking for money. It’s weird because the more money they make, the more the actual content suffers. You would think with more money comes better content but in reality it actually just leads to them wanting to make even more money.
They are artists. And as demand grew, they became a business. They sell to whomever will pay. We don't shame Blink-182 for selling their albums or concert tickets to people making $50k/yr. We can call them both sellouts if we want, but at least they're out there creating something. Whether it's good or bad is subjective.
Delos’ internet begging is NOTHING compared to La Vagabonde’s ’sponsored by AG1 while suffering from mental health issues (sponsored by…) but still remembering to show enough cleavage of a bad boob job’ -memes. Those guys are unwatchable for me now.
I liked seeing this story, telling more about you, how you starded and more. I just want to see more reality, and not only love -sunshine -reggae. Well, understand, your job. And yes,Sierra needs friends and family. Take care🎉
I watch a lot of sailing youtube channels and SV Delos is one of my favourites, and if you want to see people fixing the exact same boat after it hit a container ship then Sailing Merewether is also cool. And then there is also Sailing Millennial Falcon, Teulu Tribe, WhiteSpotPirates, Adventures of an old Seadog they are all very cool. I like these sailing youtube channels because it's about people having adventures, whatever the adventure is it's entertaining. I'm not a fan of the youtube channels where they just point a camera at themselves and shout "wwooo hhhhooo!!!", if there is no adventure and just people trying to look cool, it's not entertaining.
cant help but think this needs to send sooner rather than later for the sake of his daughter. what kind of life is it for her if she cant make meaningful friendships and is constantly moving around. nice to hear he plans on changing that
There are many families that live aboard while raising children. Many develop friendships with other live aboard families etc. Many feel the life experiences and world education are worth it. I personally wouldn’t do it, but I can see how many enjoy it. I suppose it’s no different than some families that live in extreme rural circumstances and home school. Heck, there are many children that attend school and go through life with very little social interaction…
This was like those movies labeled "Based on a true story", it is mostly true with some facts left out, some exaggerated. Always when hearing this history I hate that Erin gets left out, maybe that is the way she want it.
Not sure where you are from but America has a LOT of seas and rivers. Check out the American great loop. Not sure if your boat is too big but America and sailing can go hand in hand :)
He started in Bellingham and sailed west coast, and when they came back around, they sailed up the East Coast all the way to Maine and back down and then through the Caribbean’s and through the Panama Canal back to where he started one of only 199 people who have sailed around the world he’s from the US she’s from Sweden. He’s actually from Flagstaff but went to work for Microsoft then start his own company.
Except, comparatively, America SUCKS! Only until you’ve sailed internationally, visited secluded bays, villages, communities, and cultures will you get what I’m saying. And I’m a us citizen……
