Great experiment! You did a great job with the statistics. I love lively Legz for nymphs and it was cool to see a small statistical lead, but my other go-to is the soft hackle. Thanks!

I’m glad you appreciated the statistical part of it, I think it was a little over most people’s heads but I do like nerding out from time to time. I’m starting to tie up some more soft hackles, glad to hear they can be affective!

Super cool, I am fishing Penns this weekend and will be recording a video on my new fly fishing channel @therantingangler. Good luck the rest of the season!

Hi John! For your results, I would agree, although many other factors could sway results one way or the other, but I think it was a rather fair experiment. I know for me, if I think I’ve been using a fly too much and my catch rate decreases, it’s amazing how just switching from the Legz to a more traditional pattern bumps my catch rate back up again. That why I always have several different styles of the same nymph or really many types of flies, could be one with Lively Legz, one without, one with a bead , one without and so on and so on. Still I think presentation is the most vital. But, I gotta admit, the Lively Legz fly just looks so much more realistic and cool 😎. Thank you for this very interesting presentation 👍🏻.

Yeah I’m really curious to hear others experience and thoughts. When I was working on the experiment, Dave told me you were considering an interesting experiment your self.

@@SufferingOutdoors like Scott said presentation is key , but I feel the lively legz are a game changer. But I also catch a ton of trout on traditional flies too!

@@SufferingOutdoors Yes, got that one on the back burner for now, not ready to rock the industry just yet, gotta wait for the right time and careful with my presentation not to offend anyone. But it’s coming.

I've been using lively leg flies for a few years and have good results

Fun experiment! I do know this, ever since I started buying and Tying Lively Legz... I have caught and netted more trout in the last few years than the previous 15 years.

There are circumstances where lively legz do catch more fish. But there definitely seemed to be some areas where they catch less. Stick with what works for you and gives you confidence. Thanks for watching!

Thanks John for the in depth study. Keeping track of all that data is impressive. I catch a lot of fish but have never used lively legz flies. I saw another presentation someone did Pheasant Tail vs Hare’s Ear,but not with near the detail as your study. Any other studies on the burner?

I have two other ideas of popular trends I want to test. I will do the next video next year since the season is winding down here in PA. Thanks for watching!

Personally I’ve just been tying pheasant tails without legs and I don’t see any difference. But I can see how a bigger stone legs matter for sure. I suck at tying in 3 biot legs for stones. So I was hoping these legs would help

Great video! Which fly caught the majority of the bigger trout? What was the biggest trout caught on in your survey? Thanks for your channel!
@SufferingOutdoors
@SufferingOutdoors Год назад
Hi Bruce, I didn’t track size of fish in the study. The biggest trout caught was around a 16 inch brown. It was caught with a Lively Legz fly. So I can’t answer if one fly caught bigger fish. I was just tracking total fish.

Fascinating Study that You’ve conducted !!!! I’ve never seen such a thorough look at this topic. Congratulations and Thank You for Your work and time. Did You use true-to-life Coloration with the LIvely-Legs, or did You utilize Contrasting Colorations ?? Did You use any Vivid - Colors during Your Trials ? Were any of the Legs Over or Undersized, for the hook size utilized ? Thank You again for Your work and resultant video !!!! Appears as though You had a Superb Time …… Will performing Your Field Work !!!!! Best Wishes !!! Brian ✨ 🎣 💫

Hey Brian, I didn’t want to use any colors that were attractor based so I used all natural colors to fairly compare. The sizes were all based upon Lively Legz recommendations for hook size. The legs were mostly black and brown.

That’s a really cool experiment! I personally do better with lively legz in the early season and traditional kills once they get educated.

Do you always use the drop shot method when you use the livelylegz.? Is that really more affective then putting the fly on the end of your tippet ? 8:00
@SufferingOutdoors
@SufferingOutdoors Год назад
Yeah I do. Only time I wouldn’t is if I was using a dry dropper, then I prefer a bead head. Check out the video we made on the drop shot method, it is way more affective. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HgYtC__K8DE.htmlsi=SkDvzkq_Nx2ALhML
