I have the 2019 Enduro Multistrada, and it’s my 3rd Ducati, the last bike I had without abs or traction control was a K7 Suzuki GSX-R 750, and I have to be honest, I wish I could go back to that bike

I don’t get why abs was even added to bikes. I don’t recall ever using them other than to come to a complete stop from below 10 mph. These safety features ,if anything are going to make people feel too comfortable and make them forget they are still on two wheels where they can still get killed. Cruise is nice on a bike though.lol

I want non-adjustable span levers, cable clutches filled with cork, carburetors to balance periodically, fuel taps, drum brakes, kick-starts, halogen beams, suicide shifts, manual horns, and nylon tires. Just kidding. The MTS V4S is mind-blowingly epic - Bike of the Year. It just is.

The tire pressure monitors on my Kawasaki Concours14 are $300 each. The batteries get weak enough to tell you that they are weak, but take forever to completely die. I have been told that the bike will stop nagging me when they completely die. My bike is old enough that the batteries are technically replaceable with a soldering iron, but Kawasaki wants them replaced and reprogrammed. Sensors for most cars are very reasonably priced, but Kawasaki decided to go very expensive.

My father regularly rides his 1976 BMW R75/6. BMW used what little technology on that bike for a long time and the bike could actually be upgraded to the newer spec when it became available. The bikes sold today will not be useable 45 years from now.

I started riding at the age of twelve on a Honda 90 and yes I have learned a lot about riding. Personally, I think ABS on motorcycles is a worthwhile addition. Everything else is on offer is just pure gimmick. The latest and greatest. If you can't control your motorcycle without the electronic nannies then maybe you should rethink motorcycle ownership and buy a Camry. And then there is the costs down the road when these things start failing. That won't happen? I've got 30 plus years in the automotive service industry and can say for a fact, they will and it will cost you. No problem you say, I'll just trade up to the next new thing with a warranty. Super. Pick up a copy of On Any Sunday. That is what motorcycles were about. Ancient history? I don't think so.

If your going to be putting days at a time on your bike I think the displays are a great idea. If I'm just doing trails at home a tac/spedometer and a fuel gauge is all I really need. Gear indicator'd be nice too. 😅

Personally not for me, my 2006 bike has fuel injection, thats it. Could possibly do with ABS. My biggest problem with all the cost of this unnecessary tech is the initial purchase price and then if anything goes wrong for the 2nd or 3rd owner in 8 to 10 years time, these bikes will be scrap. Even TFT screens, many are integrated to the ignition so if the dash fails the bike just won't start.

Its an interesting topic. I went from a GSX-S750 to a KTM 1290 super adventure R. Basically from an old sports car to current gen Land Rover, for comparison. I only owned the KTm for 6 months as it went into the shop almost every month that I owned it and the majority of the issues were with the electronics. The display(or whatever the hell reads the key fob, they replaced it twice) decides it doesnt like the key anymore, shuts the bike off 90 miles away from the house at a stop light. A sensor goes out and puts the bike in limp mode. ect. Some people like anything and everything on their bikes and more power to them. I think it's a little too much. Adaptive cruise? Not a chance in hell. A rider should be fully engaged with the bike and paying attention. Lane departure and blindside monitoring? The rider should be scanning his mirrors and visually checking before he ever makes a move to leave his lane. Linked brakes and cornering ABS? How did we every survive without it, people will die left and right without it,or so some people act. I honestly am in the middle with those 2. I do enjoy the various ride modes and the suspension setting and auto leveling is pretty damn cool imo. But at the end of the day I enjoyed just being able to get on the Gixxus and just ride. If something ever went wrong on the road, I was sure I could fix it enough to get home. The KTM, obviously not. Great vid, guys

Of course all of this tech will be almost 100% reliable and if it were ever to go wrong the owner will be able to fix it at home with a few basic tools.- or maybe not!

I don’t need power modes, traction control, hill hold functions, radar cruise control or blind spot monitoring. If you want all this you might as well drive a four wheeled cage.

Feature creep is a thing that marketing likes. "Lookit all our stuff! Our list is longer than the other guy's!". Extra cost disappears into monthly financing. It may look good in the show room, but how much is actually used in real world? Fortunately, for those of us who don't want to be tying to figure out how to fix all this crap on our high mileage bikes in 5 years, there's still Suzuki.

Yes, bikes have too much tech. No, it is not a bad thing, IF the rider is seasoned enough to use it responsibly. If you are from the 30's like Kase says he is, then you will have a learning curve issue with new tech. I do not believe in relying on any gadget to minimize my need to be in control. As Alex suggested, it is nice to have aids, but you don't want them to make you lazy and dependent upon them. I believe in hardware that improves and gives you better control over the bike. But I don't want gadgets like adaptive cruise control to brake for me. In a car that is fine. But on a bike, I think that adds more danger to the rider and potentially others around the rider. Good controversial topic guys. :)
@alanhassall
@alanhassall 3 года назад
Was your test bike special or have they finally enabled the adaptive cruise? I have been following an owner who paid for it and, not only is it not enabled while it awaits government approval, but he will be charged more to enable it when it becomes available.

I was really hoping you were going to go into the IMU, cornering abs, traction control...etc. My problem with these new, high horsepower bikes are that the rider relies on these to keep them upright. How many "normal" humans can ride a 200 hp bike without these aids? I've got a 2020 Ducati Supersport S, and it does have abs and tc, but not the IMU that enables these in corners. They are nice to have and do provide a margin of safety. I just don't care for the mega hp bikes with all the tech that lets a rider grab a handful of throttle out of a corner, and the bike figures it out. I'd love to see you do a comparison with those systems on and off on canyon rides.

I guess tech is fine if you're a geek and don't plan on keeping the machine long. Paying a ton for a race bike engine to ride on the street and then paying a ton more for an electronics package to limit the power to try to keep the rider alive seems a little ridiculous, but hey, it's your money. The biggest problems w/ "tech" aside from the cost is it's just more expensive crap to fix and maintain. And as the bike ages and the tech changes, good luck ever getting parts to replace it.
@CraigSmith568

I want absolutely no tech on my bike. I don't even like the digital speedometers and tachometers on these things.

Adaptive cruise and blindspot...on a bike....why?!?! How do you have a blindspot on a bike unless you can't turn your head I guess? Also when was just a regular cruise not enough or a luxury? 😅 I love the displays and playing with settings or being able to access smartphone functions but the other stuff? Ugh. I think most all bike enthusiasts would love the displays if they came with android auto and apple car play. Who wants their 600+ phone handing off a sketchy mount in the first place anyway? This is something that's been needed on cruising and adventure bikes LOONG before it was needed in cars.

Yes.. Absolutely. Government control over our cars and now bikes. Control of freedom of movement.
@WW-wf8tu

That is a different paranoia discussion. lol I like freedom of choice. I like options. And here in the U.S.A., you are free to ride or not. You are free to drive or not. It is a luxury option. Not a forced requirement upon people. For every advancement, comes choice to utilize it or not.

My suspicion is more why you would review the worse adventure bike... 🤔 With GS1200, Tiger1200 & KTM1290 out there, this does not really seem independent...

Did you even bother watching the video? This isn't about the best adventure bike, it's about new bikes being loaded with Tech and The Ducati was the most technologically advanced out of those 4. That was the whole point of the video. Does a rider really need all of these things and what was their views on it.
@rynoopperman5010
@rynoopperman5010 3 года назад
@@christopher9626 I did watch the video. I understand it was about too much tech on Adv Bikes, but to me it looks also like an advertisement for Ducati on how technologically good/fancy it is It felt like an ad to me My biggest gripe is, who cares about it? They sell 1% of the adventure Bike market, so why use them to ask the question? They are not a representation of the market None of the other 3 big brands has half the crap the Ducati has because they are not modified road bikes to look like adventure bikes...

It is very fashionable these days to describe oneself as "old-school". Generally that means one of two things. Either you really are old and haven't learned anything since the Reagan administration; or, you just say it but it's a bunch of nonsense.
