Releasing their flagship action camera with soooo many issues and then pricing it at this bizzare price makes no sense at all. I could buy an entry level DSLR for that money. I forgot to say this in my review, but I had at around 5 dead pixels on my Hero 6 display and the battery door was very hard to open and close. The dead pixels weren't a huge deal but I payed 680 USD for that camera. At least it could have some decent quality.
Yeah, I notice many people complaint about the price disparity in some regions & countries. I waited a little later to get my GoPro Hero 6 Black rather than at launch, which saved over a hundred dollars. This is my first GoPro Hero action camera I confess & I'm stoked about it's performance & built quality, yes the genuine accessories for GoPro are outrageous as well compare to even Sony which is a far superior camera but camera itself is out of reach for many budgets. I like to mention the battery life is a big concern for me " runs out a little over an hour" at moderate shooting, otherwise is worth investing.
i brought the hero 6... in the beginning i was quite disappointed with the camera.I spent a week testing thinking was i missing something.I began to play with light and settings and found a different camera at v1.6. it is not a high end video camera but has a place, It is not a point and shoot and you need to work with light and settings.The SD cards are critical i have been using the Sandisk extreme pro plus recommended by Gopro.The 4k is compressed and needs something like Mpeg to convert to play properly. i would say don't give up on the Gopro it can do what some cameras can not do.For economy battery life the GP does very well in 1080 a 24fps and any corrections can be done in post editing ........The very best photographers all say their is no perfect camera.Sometimes i feel faults are built into cameras on purpose to make the buyer move on to the next model Sony seem to be good at this.
Thanks for your comment. Many people use the Hero 6 and like it, but I think Gopro could do things much better before requiring the hefty pricetag. But as you said, with proper lighting and right settings, you can get good footage out of the Hero 6. It isn't only the camera that matters but also the environment.
I tested it for nearly three weeks and I got really disappointed by the Hero 6. Shure, I didn't wait until a software update arrived but things like the lens flare, bad audio quality and poor low light performance can't be fixed with an update, I also don't think that they can fix the EIS. That's enough for me to return the product, because it costs an arm and a leg. It SHOULD NOT have those issues at that pricepoint. If you like your GoPro and it covers your needs, then that's great! Continue liking it, I'm just trying to express my personal thoughts on it and not read a spec sheet. A review is supposed to be personal, right? Thanks for stopping by.

Everyone hates it, they're sinking it for 200€ on offer here and I'm still not buying it for that. The picturequality is horrible, it hangs and dies, flares etc . . they went with the cheapest parts available and sold it for the maximum profit, probably to cover the expenses of their dead drone business.
GoPro will die. It's just a matter of time and I don't think that they can rescue themselves. They failed with their 360 camera, they failed with their drone and they also failed with their action cam. Not much else to fail except their marketing because that's what keeps them alive. :) Thanks for watching.
I use the Zhiyun Smooth Q but the gimbal model doesen't matter. You have to turn on wind reduction for the mic in order to get rid of the noise. If you hear really closely there is still some noise, but it is much better than if you would turn off wind reduction.
Thanks for watching my video T Sizzle. Most of the Hero 6 issues are hardware related so they can try to release tons of updates but it their action cam will still be sup-par. For this update, one of their claims is better low-light performance but it's still the same cheap and tiny sensor. Maybe they will make the noise reduction more agressive but that will propably result in a loss of detail. They also claim less purple fringing but if they used good optics in the lens they would propably not have to release this fix. This can also lead to a loss of detail in the picture. The extreme sun flare that I showed in this video is impossible to fix and is also a result of very poor optics. All in all, the Hero 6 is still the same Hero 6 and it will always be the Hero 6.
Adrian D First, thanks for your review. I agree that you're spot on with the drawbacks of the Hero6. There are some serious optical limitations. You're also right about that microphone adapter being a complete rip off. That being said, are there some alternatives action cameras that you would recommend over the hero6? Y 4K+? Sony x3000? Sony Rx0?
The Sony x3000 is great. I had an opportunity to test it out and I was really impressed so I can recommend it without a doubt. The sensor is just beautiful in low light for it's size and the lens doesn't have any issues at all. The OIS is amazing. The colours are spot on and it wasn't irritating to use as I first expected. It's just a great camera and it doesn't need software updates to rescue it. I didn't want to recommend it before testing it so that's the reason for why I didn't talk about it in my review. One thing I could clarify in my review is the part when I compare the Hero 6 with the RX0. The RX0 is a totally another thing and can't be compared with the Hero 6 if you want a regular action cam. In the right hands, the RX0 is mindblowing but I cannot recommend it as a competitor to the GoPro because it is no way near as simple to use. Sony doesn't even categorize the RX0 as an action cam even though it has the formfactor and water resistance to be one. That's why the YI 4K plus comes in the second spot for me.
i returned my hero 6 and got replaced by a new unit but yeah the issue on the battery which drains quickly is still there and often it got stuck in the compartment. And worst is i could not update to a new firmware now which is wierd. Gopro should fix the firmware issue coz it's really frustrating.
I would be so angry if my camera failed on me during a vacation. A dedicated camera must be reliable, otherwise there is no need for it to exist. Shame on GoPro!
I don't have the GoPro anymore but from what I have seen from other videos, the low-light performance seems to be a little better and the colours a little more fine-tuned. Still not worth the money IMO. They need new hardware for the Hero 7.
