I spent £550 on my Pure Air Pro LR that has 37 miles of range and I ride it back and forth to work knowing full well the police could nab it from me any day they feel like it. At a whopping £2000+ it's just too much risk to get it confiscated... or even stolen.
The whole legal thing is a total crapfest. I ride an illegal ebike with 250W sticker lol, they already confiscated my throttle but at first threatened to take the whole bike. I wasn't using the throttle much anyway so don't miss it.
@@manoz6194 What kind of ebike is it and what made them check your ebike? was it random checkpoint they setup? I have a 750w samebike lo26 ii and have had zero problems, I never go near them for them to see my thumb throttle but I guess if you have a cop that knows what to look for :(
@@Neilukuk I work in as a bicycle courier and I was picking up an order at the mall and when I came out there was a bunch of police inspecting bikes of other couriers too since they also have illegal bikes. one noticed I had a throttle so I just quickly took it off and gave it to the officer. They were also checking citizenship status since there was a problem with immigrants doing the job illegally.
I am not interested in buying an e-scooter, but damn this one looks sleek and well thought out. That folding systems is very nice! And with the wide standing pad and build in turn signals etc it is probably safer then some legal alternatives. Although going 40km/h on this seems like asking for accidents.
You'd be surprised I think. I can't speak for this scooter since I haven't ridden it, but the angle that the stem has means that it's going to have a good bit of stability. This seems like an overpriced scooter to me. There are much less expensive options that have much more performance and comfort built-in. One thing to be aware of when buying a scooter is that if your commute includes hills you really need dual motors. A single motor scooter might be able to handle a hill, but it'll burn out the controller fairly quickly since it's having to work super hard. To address your speed concerns, performance electric scooters (which this is not) are purpose built to be able to handle those speeds. Before owning one myself I had the same concern as you, but after riding it for a month or so I realized that the shocks, weight, and durability of the scooter made riding it at higher speeds perfectly safe. You just need to be sure to practice your hard breaking and rapid turning in an empty parking lot for an hour or two prior to going on the road since scooters need to avoid objects rather than going over them like a bicycle. When breaking hard you need to duck down and lean back or you'll go over the handlebars. To turn quickly at speed you need to learn to counter steer, just like you would with a motorcycle. It's actually pretty easy.
Im pretty sure the UK police will call it an electric scooter when they take it away from you. whats the point in advertizing electric scooters for use in the UK.
Nice scooter and really original folding mechanism! I wish all e-scooters had folding handlebars! If not they are the width of a bike so portability suffers. This scooter is a bit pricey though and like so many before it even with legislation may remain illegal as it’s over 500 watts which it’s believed will be the limit of any legislation 🤦🏽 anyone who has ridden an escooter knows that for hills with heavier riders more power is required!
Great review, thanks for breaking the law to show us. Not sure who is going to spend £2k on something that cant legally be ridden anywhere but strangely I still want one :)
That's because they are afraid of kids going at 70kph with no helmets and a get-around for drunks....which I have both witnessed on many occasions. They should regulate it, like they do with other motor vehicles like atvs.
I live in the US so no issues with legality just issues with drivers with there face and eyes 👀 in their phone. I currently use an electric scooter on my commute 50 miles each way primarily by train to work I do 4.5 miles from my house to the station and 2.5 more from the station to my office. Originally bought it for the last 2.5 miles then after a month of putting it the back of the car just began scooting from home. Most week days my car doesn’t get used at all. Where this scooter shines and begins to justify its cost is how small it folds for someone like me taking it onto a train this is huge. I plan to retire to a sailboat in 18 months and this might be something I’d buy also looking at a Gocycle but pricy and takes up more space.
I'm a big fan of ultra-portable scooters able to **** Transport for London as they fit in a bag. The perfect example was Blitzwheel e-scooter by an American start-up Blizwheel. Hyundai has shown a similar concept in 2017, later updated in 2019, but some five years later still nothing happens. Maybe you could reach out to Hyundai and ask if it's been shelved?
I like bike, been riding them for 45 years, but scooters are ASBO machines. Education for the riders and social responsibility go a long way. Bizarrely l agree with the major of Paris.
Well, I wouldn't buy a £1,900 e-scooter even if they were legal, and would absolutely rather pay £3,000 for something that is the same, but actually admits to being an e-scooter because I'd happily pay a tax to avoid that kind of pretension which leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. What's good about this is them putting money into R&D which may or may not lead to other firms copying their ideas if any are useful. Which obviously considering they're not legal, their biggest fan and an undoubted expert on e-scooters, wants a bigger wheel, and at this level of cost it obliterates the value proposition for most people, I don't think they are. This is the same as the Microlino. Instead of concentrating on fundamentals such as making a good product that's easily produced, and therefore cheap to make and sell, they're aiming at the Apple end of the market. Which is a good way for normalising these things - who has more money to fight the good fight in Parliament than the type of people who'd buy products from Apple? Difference between them and Tesla is they have no environmental credentials of any kind, and no plan stated up front to build the expensive one so they can build the mid-range one so they can build the cheap one. I do hope Bosch or someone creates a standard battery specification that we can all use in our e-bikes and e-scooters. It's kind of hard to see why we can't just plug in their power tool batteries to be honest. That'd be a killer feature at some point (and yes, I know the form factor isn't ideal for current e-scooter designs but that's what engineers are for).
Whatts the point of going 25mph on a shared footpath, i love scooters and designing my own, but high speed scooters in towns and towpaths will lead to a complete ban in the UK Nicely designed scooter, do people actually buy 2k + scooters??
awesome video. My friend brought an e-scooter 15 years ago. it had a crappy old rechargeable battery (probably NiMH) but it was good for a few miles. $1000! wow...
Wow it’s pretty cute. I like it. Too expensive though. My Segway GT1 goes 65 km top speed and has a range of 65 km in ego.. and 20 km in race mode. These days you can find the GT1 on sale for a little under 2k if you’re lucky. The regular price is about $2700 usd.
the UK legal standards are going to specify 12 inch wheels minimum for e scooters so machines like this will bot be compliant in the future and are therefore pointless to buy also - IT'S TWO GRAND!!!!
Nice video and the non e-🛴 looks great. I thought that the recent king speech would mention the transport bill (which also includes the long awaited change in the Draconian laws we currently have). However it doesn't seem to be there. An e- 🛴 would help me do much in getting to work without using my car but I can't afford to lose the scooter and get 6 points in my licence!
Electroheads have you considered partnering with McLaren for their eMobilty devision. Maybe just a partnership to help guide them as your all know eMobilty inside out. I really think this and the future eBike from vanmoof could be the iPhones of the eMobilty world. Especially if it's marketed well and in RU-vidrs & news company hands to unbox and review.
McLaren shouldn't need to be asked for that kind of feedback, they should have been speaking to such people all along. Of course, they're really not interested in the thoughts of peons. Which is how you end up working in Formula One and supercars in the first place thinking you're super special :D
I can see two problems with it when stopped by the rozzers, 650 watt motor and top speed. 10” wheels on a U.K. road is asking for a trip to A and E. Nice scooter though.
@@jlb4685 are you riding in all British cities and counties? Or just one that happens to have good roads along the routes you use? Or do you avoid the roads with bad potholes and drains lower than the road surface? His complaint is perfectly rational.
I don’t understand what the big thing is about electric scooters!! For me, it’s the electric car and bicycle that matter!! My current car is a Renault Zoe and my bike an Axon Rides bike.
i mean for to 2000 its lacking a lot in the spec deparment, you can find cheaper better options or same price as safe but faster, better scooters out there
A reliable e-scooter will always come with some form of suspension. This scooter does not come with suspension, therefore meaning it is not as reliable in comparison to other e-scooters in its class. Yes it is built nicer, but it is not going to last as long as others that have a suspension. Also the throttle on this is relatively cheap and easy to break, and also pretty uncomfortable to use.
Yep while other countries such as the USA have no problem with 70 mph escooters the UK struggles with scooters that struggle to go 15 mph something not quite right there i think. Perhaps if people were allowed to just get on with things safety would would follow close behind. In fact we could just use data from the USA and allow 70 plus mph escooters.
The law on these is stupid. In the more populated areas of London, all the local dealers run around on massive e-scooters and plod does nothing because it’s too difficult to stop them, but in the city, the old bill will just on everyone trying to get to work!
It's 18.5Kg for the cheap version as well. That's hardly portable in my mind. That's over 40lbs which means it's a problem for lots of people to bring that indoors. Not so much young hod carriers, but normal people.
Just bought a 2600w e scooter today for £350 it does 45 mph this new yellow e scooter is the price of a decent used car like a 2005 Jag S type with 9 months mot!!!
This thing is incredibly overpriced. For the same price you can get a number of scooters with MUCH more power and suspension (Mantis King GT, Vsett 10+, Bluetran Lightning, etc.). The website is almost completely lacking in specs. The foldability is cool and it has a nice aesthetic but it should cost about half what they're asking.
The folding mechanism looks really dangerous to me. Like if the latch supporting the "kickstand" breaks and the scooter just collapses while riding it.
So your saying it is not electric scooter huh so your saying if i drove that electric scooter on puplic road i,m not gonna get introuble with the police secondly how comes it so low
McLaren designed brompton front electric motor hub is not 100% reliable. Many of them suffered from malfunction. My own 3 year old Brompton electric broke down with very low mileage with no external damage and no rain history.
If you want to get legal escooters in the UK you need to first please the king. Tax tax tax, registration, insurance, and licenses. If they cant control it and make money they aren't interested.
Let’s call it skippy rather than a the word we should not use. They missed out one thinks room on it to of had a seat option , but what do I know , I can hear in your head say not a lot , my stupid ideas makes others look good.
I very much hope they become legal soon; including mandatory reg-plates and insurance as well as CBT. Seeing nutters ride these things around London has convinced me that they present a clear danger unless registered and insured.
Does that annoy people or does it not matter because you have so many really good cycle lanes everyone is better of cycling with a pedal or e-bike anyway?
@@ferrarikingF50 yup. I think the scooter is appealing on the basis that it's small, speedy, requires no exercise other than standing up on it (which is a pretty good beginners exercise if you're currently sedentary) and you can take it into the office with you. Once they get big though, that equation changes. I can't carry a tall backpack, put this thing in it, and have it in the cinema while I'm watching a film. It would even be awkward to take around the shops with me. So what do I actually do with it? Maybe commute to work if my office is spacious. But it's £1,900 and I wonder how easy they are to secure? If everyone else has £3,000 ebikes around me, and it's possible to secure these well, their bikes will get stolen first but... Not that it matters in the UK since scooters are illegal.
Looks amazing! Shame our Dutch goverment has the same crappy mentality as yours regarding these vehicles. Otherwise I'd put one on my Christmas wishlist
3:30 Somebody please inform the 'I'm 5' 10" gurl" that scooters don't have "levels of assist" since there are no pedals.. the controller just gives you different speed levels.
Oh darling, it can't be nice feeling emasculated by a woman being taller than you 😂 That's something you'll need to work on. After all, it's all about what's on the inside ❤ And thank you for the reminder. I am so used to reviewing ebikes the language comes naturally!
