It's been a rough week for British Cycling... Tuesday they announce to members that they shouldn't be riding a bike on the bank holiday Monday to retracting that statement and coming to their senses and realising that was crazy to think they could dictate when and when you can't ride your bike!

Mondays are my only proper day off work so the best day for me to go cycling so I would likely be cycling on the Monday anyway irrespective of the funeral. I shall go cycling when I decide to and not when anyone else says I can.

Do I go out and ride, on what will likely be the closest thing to those early lock-down levels of traffic? Or do I take the once in a lifetime opportunity to see history as it unfolds before my eyes? No contest really, I've already planned my route 🤣

Strongly ... 'strongly' well ... I cycle strongly and recommend starting Strong on Mondays. like 100 k strong no matter if there is a funeral... I can mourn on 2 wheels.

Great to hear of Connor Swift getting a move to Inneos, well deserved. It’s encouraging to see a local lad being successful. Hope he is able to achieve some victories in some of the big races.

British Cycling have been plagued with problems over the years, and I think it is statements like this that give us an insight into the mindset of their higher levels of management. Internally these type of edicts are probably quite common, when they are made publicly we are quite shocked. I don't think this behaviour is out of character, it is just not seen publicly.

Chris, a bit off topic but opinion on closing the county on Monday either voluntarily or by management will vary greatly from person to person, from small business to large companies (let’s not mention Centre Parcs’ reversal as well as BC). As a runner I shall be out for an early one as I’m sure many cyclists will be but I am aware how historic this is and shall be back to watch the funeral. HRH has given us 2 extra Bank Holidays this year, one to celebrate and one to mourn so let’s give her a little of our time. Wonder how busy Zwift will be on Monday ?

In today's society there are quite a lot of people who need more than guidance on British values and common decency and in particular about respect. British cycling will always be dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. They just needed to word it appropriately in the first instance Chris.

Couldn’t see any British Athletics guidance about running… I’m sure there is when it comes to events but imagine if they “strongly recommended” that people didn’t run. It’s ludicrous

Makes a change it's usually the UCI that makes stupid statements. British cycling decides it was their turn now. They didn't just put their foot in it they put the whole leg !

I am not sure why anyone going out looking at cyclists during the Queen's funeral would feel more creditworthy than those doing the cycling.

Any time is appropriate if that’s how you want to live your life. For a start who’s going to see you? If they find watching the funeral important, then surely they’ll be sat in front of the TV and you’re not bothering them?

For the first time since lockdown, I will become a key worker hero again on Monday, so have to cycle to get to work. No doubt on Tuesday I will spend the day getting abused and threatened again just for driving a bus.

Fred absolutely deserves a win after his performance this season. He's a personality that is just so likeable and I feel that he's absolutely earned a win. As far as BC goes. Another bullshit announcement from a useless governing body followed by an empty and emotionless 'apology'. Seems to be happening all to often. The question is, when will they learn?

As a commonwealth medalist cyclist and a loyal subject of the crown, your dedication to Queen and country is disappointing Mr. Pritchard. I expected you to tattoo the date on your chest with the union jack flag as well. At least hold a memorial Zwift ride in honor of this deeply emotional and life-changing experience. Come on Pritch, crank out a 2000 watt sprint for the new King

Ineos new found freedom is more to do the lack of real GC contenders in the team - they further from winning the TDF than they were pre Brailsford. Current Jumbo and UAE riders all stick to their roles until the GC battle is under control. Good luck to Swifty as there are opportunities at Ineos.

Hi Chris, not really a fan of the royals, at least one should be in prison. I would agree that stirring up the anger on cyclists isn't a great idea, there are enough knobheads who do this already. The video you showed at the start is an example i guess. Anyway if I lived in the UK I'd cycle on quiet roads, just to avoid any confontations in this instance. But British cyclist should not dictate when I can go out on my bike.

@@DrSomhairle my sarcasm may have been missed. How is your ignoring the funeral any different to their not watching the funeral… if they care so much, they won’t be where you are, they’ll be watching the funeral…
