It’s sad, I accidentally did that to my PB largemouth bass because the water was like 90s and I only had 12 pound mono and fought it for too long. The owner of the pond found it floating a week or so later 😢
@SIP_Outdoors it was something else. We don't always know what happened. But if you didn't gill hook him, then it wasn't your fault. They won't die from the fight as long as you get them back in the water as quickly as possible
@@michaelgoode7837 Ummm yeah fish can and do die from being fought to hard on light line. It’s lactic acid build up in the fishes body/fatigue can and sometimes does kill the fish.
Why is that ? Curious cause I’m a Floridian , so northern fishing I have 0 clue about. I’m assuming because big fish + light tackle = Swallow and choke ?
@@MacNSteeze21This is just my guess, but I assume it's because using light tackle on bigger fish forces you to fight them longer. This might cause the fish to get exhausted and stressed out, which can later kill it.

I little presumptuous assuming light tackle resulted in this "delayed mortality" casualty. Fish below a spillway can/ are subjected to a greater range of critical/threatening conditions, and or practices.
Light tackle refers to very light fishing gear. A small rod and lighter line/reel makes it a long fight and tires the fish out, if the fish gets too tired it will just die. Heavy tackle lets you reel in the fish faster so the fish can't use up all its energy.

@@winstonleeman8739technically you can own creeks or rivers. in kentucky, you can only own 2 acres of a river or creek, since they are networks from the ocean. But ponds are not networks from the ocean so you can own that whole thong
I don't think that's from light tackle, someone just had it out of the water too long. You can land muskies with light tackle, what matters is how you handle them afterward.

But heck sometimes I’m targeting smaller fish with smaller lures and than something big will get on a break my off. Like the other month I was fishing for crappie and something HUGE was on and it snapped my line quickly but I think it was a catfish

One day I found a hidden little hole and pulled a massive cutbow trout of of it. Went back a few days later and there were about a dozen No Trespassing signs up. No idea who saw me but someone did lol

We have a local lake that's private and Akrons water supply. Used to be public decades ago but people kept littering and they took it from us. People have even taken the city to court over it. But what's bullshit is not being able to fish the spillway. Best big pike spot to ever exist. Can't even access it with a kayak. Edit: I used to fish this tiny trib of the Cuyahoga for like with an ultralight. Got one almost 40" on six pound test and a 1/16 oz jighead with a small swim bait. While I can say every fish swam off strong, I caught a giant one while crappie fishing and took me a while to revive her, during the spawn no less. I still don't use heavy tackle, but def. Not using ultralights anymore
I pretty much only fish for pike here in the UK and I quite often find them with a lure or deadbait rig down their throat, it’s infuriating seeing people throwing 80g lures on 12lb mono on a feeder rod 😂
I false hooked a 2lb rainbow trout and it was definitely alive, but when I went to unhook I noticed my hook had caught the line of the other hook that it still had in its mouth, when I let it go it turned over and died, which made no sense cuz it was alive and fine, my guess is it got stuck in the shallow plants from the line it was stuck too and starved idk..
Nah. After some research, I found a picture of some kid with the fish from a week prior, bleeding from the gills and being mishandled. He used a tiny spinning rod and likely fought the fish for a long time.
