actually, do use the harpoon. I remember one time I escaped from raiders when I was sailing alone just because I harpooned the megalodon. I hit a rock right after and sank, but that's not my point.

once i did this then like 2 mins later i got an achievement saying i travelled a nautical mile..

Correction. Never harpoon a megalodon AFTER they get into the circles cycle. You must get him just before they begin to move around your ship in circles.

me and my friends have somethig we do when we harpoon a megalodon called megalodon surfing. It's basically where we try to stay on the megalodon for as long as possible, and let go when we're about to tip over. Fun way to get around, actually

So I've never had this happen when harpooning a Meg. I've done it since harpoons came out but me and my friends also play on a Brig or Galleon so maybe the weight of the ship helps prevent that. Try it with a row boat. I believe they are still heavier than the galleon unless they actually fixed it.
