Not so much patience required as is tolerance. Patience is ability to peacefully teach a child to tie shoelaces for the 50th time. Tolerance is the ability to endure absurdity and nonsense that defies any logic and is perpetuated and allowed by individuals groups (governments!) from either thoughtlessness or stupidity or both.

My late American husband from Michigan never learned " patience " he was always annoyed/frustrated... but stayed there in the Philippines for 26 years. As a Filipina I've learned to find ways around it... tipping and being nice goes along way.

Okay, to summarize: Don't retire in the Philippines if you: --Have an ongoing health problem that requires frequent care (The quality of medical care is not as good as you would get in the West) --Demand that your utilities reliably work all the time (Both electricity and internet can experience frequent outages if you're anywhere outside the major cities) --Are an impatient person who hates waiting in long lines (Banks often have only one ATM open and stores usually have 3/4 of their cashier lanes closed) --Don't have a guaranteed income (Local jobs pay very little, and it's very difficult to open a business and it likely won't succeed anyway) --Want peace and quiet (Depending on where you live, you'll hear dogs barking, roosters crowing, or karaoke singing at all hours of the day and night) --Are a picky eater (You won't see the same selection and quality of meats, so many things are perpetually out of stock, and many menu items are unavailable much of the year.) Did I miss anything? Thank you both for such an honest, thorough explanation!

This is an honest and open video. For me, the weather- humidity would be hard for me to adjust to. Also, many as they age become set in their ways and expectations. Sounds like being able to adapt and go with the flow is very important and some are not wired that way. I had a neighbor with a barking dog and a loud parrot..it was quite annoying lol..my alarm clock makes rooster sounds- wakes me up!

Leah is an intelligent young lady And she listens very well They're on point with Healthcare being expensive there You have to have consistent income to survive there That's why many Filipinos go abroad to earn money as job are scarce there If I had to return living there I'd end up being a fisherwoman or a tour guide since I do customer service here in the U.S. Other than that not too many job opportunities to maintain the amazing beach quiet life

The lines take so long because they don't trust their own employees. They have 1 person ringing things up, 1 person watching them to make sure they rang it up, 1 person bagging everything, another person watching the bagger to make sure they bagged it, and a security guard checking your receipt. I've learned, just get in a line and stay there, your turn will eventually come, getting in a line because it looks shorter always seems to take longer. I think the one thing I would have a hard time adjusting to is time, being retired military, I'm all for punctuality. I think it's rude and disrespectful for others to waste your time. I agree you need to have GUARANTEED income, and RU-vid is NOT that guarantee, they can/will demonetize any video/channel at any time they choose to. Brown outs are from all the Filipina's charging their phones for TikTok videos 🤣

I just want to tell y'all how beautiful your relationship appears to be. I know you can't judge everything by appearance but I still want to point out something beautiful that I see. I couldn't help but notice and observe Leah's mannerisms toward her husband. The way you laugh, look at him, how you speak, etc.....the genuineness, the innocence, the purity in your feelings for him can be seen. Maybe I'm wrong and assuming but I don't think so. I'm really happy for y'all and it truly is beautiful to see. Thank you both and thank you Leah for just letting your true you shine through. It is so refreshing. The scripted acting of alot of people on youtube is blah. I'm not sure if I even communicated my observation very well. If it don't make sense, let Gary read and I bet he can explain it lol.

I lived in Makati City for one year in 2005. The adjustment was rather easy for me. I am from new York City. So traffic, pollution. noise, crowds, all of that stuff was totally normal for me. I will retire there this year- 2024. It is still dirt cheap for me compared to USA. New York City where I am from, the prices for everything are insane. Also, good internet reliability, rare power black outs, good restaurants, luxuries if you have the budget for it, etc...

You are a nice couple...and many things you discuss I have already heard of.. and you are right about all of them. But the most part is you have to do a deep preparation of the change. It really is not good to retire in the Philippines if you do not have a large income coming in...cause yes money can go fast. Careful of going there in the tourist attitude. Go there as if you are back home but enjoy a peaceful more slow life. Don't always believe the hype that its cheap to live in the Philippines. Visit as many times as you can and do some very deep planning. I am not going to retire there. I have experience the Philippines for over 6 years. I tried a month for the first time in September and it was from all visits...the best and the worse time I had. But you know the best was better then the worse and I loved my month stay. Remember its The Philippines...not your country you came from. Thanks so much for your video.

Welcome to the Philippines, that's why Filipinos have never stress, always smile, because they know how to enjoy life. Either you can adjust as a foreigner or otherwise don't go to Philipiines. But if you are retired you should have a lot of time, so for example do your grocery not during rush hour, so you can avoid traffic. Do grocery together with your wife, kids, sister, etc., then 1 person stand with the cart in line at the cashier and until it's your turn to pay, for sure you could fill your cart with all you need ;) And about money I would recommend that you have around 100k per month to live a good life like you was used abroad in USA, Germany, Switzerland, etc.

Not sure if that's true or just something the Filipinos made up like The "So Called" If you marry a Filipina - You Are Financially Responsible For Her Family too! Total BS!! As a Husband, No Matter What Culture I Marry, I'm Only Financially Responsible for my Wife (Asawa) and our Children! The Family can Kick Rocks!! I used an ATM at a major mall in Cebu City and the money never came out, but it charged my bank account over $100.00. Obviously the machine had a malfunction, but it never showed up on the ATM computer record. Never got my money back. I also have no reliable home garbage service. Never know what day or week garbage will be collected. I'm at full agreement with your video. I'm an American living in Cebu City, but there are many problems in the US at this time, very high inflation (not good for retirement), difficult to buy a home (I could not afford to purchase the home I sold in 2020 to come to the Philippines because of highly inflated real estate prices), car gas prices are over double from when I left for the Philippines, etc. So I will sit here for awhile in this crazy place while my daughters finish High School and College. Living in Cebu City is not too bad except for the traffic during rush hour and very high electric rates. Great malls and restaurants, very fast PLDT internet, very few brownouts, good transpiration (car taxis, grab taxis, Jeepney, bikes, buses), reasonable rent ($560 for 2-story 4 bedroom 3 bath house with hot water + office and security), major international airport, close to most great Tropical Resorts, and 1 hour flight to Manila, 40 minutes to Mindanao, 2 hour boat to Bohol, and international flights to/from U.S. There are numerous major clinics and hospitals in Cebu City.

Philippines is not the land of opportunity for foreigners to invest or settle Foreigners can't own real estate lands in PH & can only own 40% of any PH business or corporations if the main Fil. owner allows it (the 60/40 Filipino first policy) Foreigners can obtain PH citizenship if born & raised in PH like the prominent Spanish Ayala family which is not the case of most foreigners PH is heaven on earth for rich Filipinos only

I've lived in the Philippines 8 years now. I had many visits before that, some as far back as early 70's. They're not exaggerating about traffic. Living in Cebu City I can attest to the fact that driving is pure chaos. If I had to just choose one thing out of the many that makes the traffic so bad, it is the motorcycles. They break every rule that has ever been created for driving and even some that have probably not been created yet. They absolutely cannot be inconvenienced in the least by having to slow down or stop for something so they will weave through cars to always be moving. They will cut you off. They don't use mirrors. They don't look before pulling into traffic (most of the time) and seem to generally have the attitude that it's your responsibility to look out for them and not the other way around. For an example, we take our daughter to school weekdays and it is 5.2 km or 3.2 miles one way. It is between 25 and 35 minutes one way, if traffic is moving "normal" for that time of the day. A year or two ago, on the 4 lane city streets, they cut the right lane in half and designated it for bicycles. If you want to stop at a shop on the road that has no parking, you are taking a gamble of getting ticketed (if you're a foreigner) and you've stopped in the right lane. You're blocking the bike lane. The issue I see with this is that I have never seen a bicycle use the bike lane. They're always out in the middle of traffic but, I've never seen one get stopped for not being in the bike lane. 😂 As a note, one I haven't verified the validity of but, I have been told by Filipinos is that when there is an accident it is generally the biggest vehicle's fault. If a motorcycle falls out of the sky (I'm just waiting for that to happen someday) and crushes your car, you're at fault. Word of warning, take some deep breaths and shout "serenity now!" before you start up your car.

Just out of curiosity as I am engaged to a woman there, what are the laws like in respect to firearms ownership? I belong to several sportsman's clubs here and am an avid shooter of pistols and long guns. I'm a fan of CZ and did notice they have an actual CZ store in Manila. I know almost no other countries have a second amendment like the USA, what are the gun laws like in the Philippines?

not the same experience if you live in the city, specifically Metro Manila area in Luzon.. those are the trade offs for living in the province or remote and therefore cheap areas..isn't it the same on anything?? quality living is a trade off for cost

Interesting! I'm sailing my yacht to the Philippines from Sweden 🇸🇪 next year, I'm not coming for the women I'm coming for the sailing and the fishing and to retire at age 53. I will not need much money, I will be living onboard and catch my own food. I'm going to spend the money I saved for the family that never happened, on myself and live lazy life until I go home to Jesus.❤

I have fair skin , got a light sunburn. Went to many.....pharmacies to buy some aftersun....lol It's not stocked in Philippines because only Caucasians ever buy it therefore low demand. Please take your own aftersun lotion from where you live....lol although I did find pure aloevera which was great. Great channel !!!

Im giving u my complete attention. Being in the US Army, i have learned patience! Hahhaha. We called it: "hurry up and wait!" And living in the middle of no-where, in Arizona, everything has to be ordered and shipped, then drive an hour to pick it up. So i think im prepared🙃 1) since im still in the USA, can i get a bdo bank account now, while in the usa to bank money for living in the philippines? #3) so if i live outside of the city, why not own a generator that is super quiet, like mine. I live 100% off the grid, with solar power and i own 2 generators for back up in Arizona. Is a cell phone amplifier and high gain antenna legal to own? Salamat po.

Yes, Don't retire in the sticks of the Phils. Retire near a community if you want connection. You make your own choice. Move to Manila, and you won't have any of your problems. And, depending on where you live, you will save money from what your are now, spending.a lot.

Acknowledging the bad or annoying scenarios in most cases conjures up certain appreciative aspects in balancing daily life while living in the Philippines. To me, this means recognizing that things will never be perfect anywhere you live but overall the good here outweighs the bad.

Never had a problem extracting cash from an ATM, I was in Manila two weeks ago, but Never a problem. Never waited in line . The people waiting in line are trying to avoid a service charge from there bank. I don't care about that kind of stuff, and I am not rich. I just value my time against the small amount of money the bank wants to cost me. But, I don't pay those charges, because I have a Charles Schwab account that pays you back ANY ATM FEE.

I'm from the USA, and I have a lot of patience almost to the point of procrastination. I'm looking to retire in the next two years, and the philippines is one place I am very seriously looking at. (Congratulations on your twenty thousand subscribers.) Now you have 20,001. This is the first time l have seen one of your videos. I live in Virginia and out in the countryside the closest town (population 3000) is 11 miles away and what you said about going to the supermarket holds true here the Walmart here has several checkout lines and only two or three open at any one time. I want to live outside of the cities, and local food is fine with me, province life is perfect for me, where I grew up my closest neighbor was 6 miles away by dirt and gravel road. If walked across the field and woods they were 1/2 mile away.
