I did Etsy a couple years ago and did okay for a little bit but then I realized we weren’t making a profit. So, now I just stick to local craft booths and online shopping for now. They say they are helping small businesses…but it’s creating a very competitive market for each type of product.
A few years back, I was researching about Etsy and I found you. I couldn’t believe what they had done. That’s why is recommended to get a website as well and funnel your client from Etsy to your business site.
I totally remember when you were deactivated - I was stunned - your story scared me and I put off firing up my dead Etsy shop. At the beginning of this year - I took the jump and started posting on Etsy with the idea in mind to learn and grow all the while thinking about another platform. The 1st 6mo of this year has been a LOT of trial and error. I'm still in the 2 sales per month category, but I can't help but think as I grow my email list and figure out what is working and what is not...I can use that to hopefully have my own shopify store some day and not have to worry about randomly being shut down!
Etsy was so much better in the beginning. Much much lower fees and the market wasn’t over run like it is now. I sold baby clothes memory quilts for years and did very well until the fees were raised and it wasn’t worth it anymore. It just doesn’t feel small business oriented anymore. It’s so sad because it was amazing back in the day.
I started selling on Etsy 3yrs ago. I stopped because I wasn't seeing enough business coming through it. I canceled everything. I started seeing additional monthly charges from Etsy. Every month I have to email Etsy and tell them to stop charging me for things that I am not promoting to the public and they have to refund my bank every single time. I have nothing on Etsy but they will still want to charge me for something and they say it's for things that are discontinued on my page. Etsy is BS!!
I didn't delete it for the fact that I thought that maybe one day I would go back once business picked up in other areas but I put everything basically on pause and had nothing in my storefront. They told me I would not be charged for anything at all, nothing. They lied and they kept charging me for stuff that I no longer had in there so yes, now it's deleted.@AmyMakesThat
Set up fee is new ! I joined Etsy on 22 and it’s good for me . I know I paid fee but I research about creating my own website and it will cost more than Etsy . Between ads , credit card transactions etc etc
Yeah I've been on Etsy for about a year but basically 0 sales. I figured it was me and not having enough items in my shop. Yet I know increasing my items will increase my fees so I've been putting it off. Now I think I'm just going to cancel it all together since I'm playing fees and seen no sales.
I agree that Etsy is not the ideal place for handmade sellers anymore, especially revenue/profit-wise, but I sell digital products on there and it's allowing me to make a nice set of extra change to support msyelf and my family. So while I absolutely appreciate this video and all of the comments and opinions, I think it's a great option for those going the digital route (which a the new pathway/door Etsy has opened that a lot of people hate, I know, but for those who are using it for that purpose within the proper and legal guidelines, I say why not! Take advantage of the opportunity for some extra money. Times are HARD right now *sigh)
I haven’t had mine deactivated but the two items I was selling a lot of were canceled because of infringement however you go in and lots of people had the same thing listed basically the same way. Very frustrating
Im so sorry your shop was deactivated. I’ve also noticed that they pick and choose the shops they decide to go after - meanwhile there’s hundreds of shops selling Disney-related items 🤔
