Sorry to say USCCA, this video landed short . Besides the other points mentioned in comments, he said that the downside of a PCC is that it takes two hands to operate & becomes heavy with the accessories (mentioned braces, sights, lights, lasers and then suppressors). Well, rifles also take two hands to operate and become heavy with the same accessories. Those aren’t characteristic of a PCC only so not a very useful statement
Yeah it's a weird statement. I think they may not have considered that in comparison OR they were thinking of a PCC in comparison to a regular Pistol or even thinking of why someone would want a PCC and not a rifle. So if someone wants a PCC to decrease weight for example they'll end up being heavier anyway with all that's needed. Their thought process is not exactly clear on this one.
Hmmm...never mentions the most likely PCC calibers. Never talks about why PCC might be better than pistol or shotgun. Never identifies any specific makes or models, not even the one he is holding. Not much useful content in this one.
PCC can be finicky with feeding hollow points. Make sure you thoroughly test a PCC with various hollow points to know it will work. Some PCCs require a bit more higher pressure ammo to operate reliably. Particularly 9x19mm PCCs might require 9mm NATO pressure or +P ammo loads. Colt pattern AR PCCs (blow back operated) are known to break the trigger group, magazine catch, trigger group pins, and egg out the trigger group pin holes in the lower receiver. CMMG's radial delayed blow back PCC design is a vast reliability improvement over the Colt blow back design. The other alternative is using a HK MP5 clone - roller delayed blow back (PTR91 instead of shelling out HK prices). 3) Over-penetration. It's not uncommon for PCCs to result in exceeding the FBI's maximum penetration depth of 18" in calibrated ballistic gel -even when using hollow points. That can present a potential legal liability risk of shooting through a threat. This exceeds the penetration of 5.56 NATO / .223 Remington which tends to fragment in tissue around the 14" - 16" depth. A 16" barrel AR15 5.56 NATO using a quality 55gr - 64gr soft point or 68gr - 77gr OTM is far less likely to over-penetrate.
@@tonyl3762 Watch this video regarding .300 blackout. It will answer all of your questions. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4VNl7QXykUY.html
The biggest advantage of the PCC, as I see it, is the acceleration of the velocity of the bullet resulting from the longer while at the same time having much less recoil than a pistol. That alone boosts the energy of the impact of the bullet by more than 30% compared with a standard pistol, even more if you use P+ loads. AR-15s are also good for home defense, but they are louder than PCCs and obviously you can't use the same ammo. The same goes for shotguns. If you are trying to do home defense on a budget, a PCC makes sense because it allows you to use the same ammo across different platforms and maybe even the same magazines.
PCCs don't tend to be cheap, though. For the price of one you can certainly get a reliable 12GA, or a OKish AR. Quite a shame because the Kriss Vector looks absolutely awesome.
Yes, you can buy 3-4 cheap pump shotguns or 1-2 not so cheap shotguns for price of PCC. Also, for most shotguns there is no need for magazines, which will save few $$.
Sorry USCCA - this was a very unimpressive video: 1) pointed his gun at himself 2) called the brace a stock 3) didn't give any valid reasons for why a PCC is good Let's Go Brandon
Another advantage of a PCC is ammo prices, even before 2020. 5.56 may cost less than 300 Blackout, but 9mm costs less than 5.56. More rounds for the money allows for more practice and proficiency.
@@USCCAOfficial When I used .300BLK, once every two to three months at most. Nowadays I go every two or three weeks. I could go more often but I learned the hard way not to deplete my stash.
I have a 9mm semi-automatic and am soon getting a 9mm carbine to go with it ( need to decide upon brand ) . 9mm ammo is readily available , relatively cheap , and it won't go into the neighbors house across the street . Of course the 12 gauge is there for back-up as well.
Anything will shoot through home construction if you miss. The only "cheap" 9mm is fmj which most certainly exceeds the FBI maximum penetration depth and likely exits the perp. Same thing happens w/ budget brand hollow points that don't expand. Huge legal liability risk.
Wow. Who cares? It’s a video on RU-vid and he already cleared it multiple times before flagging himself. Can’t shoot yourself with an unloaded firearm, and without your finger on the trigger.
PCC's is the way to go for home defense. I've been involved in a home defense shooting before here in Frisco, TX and I used an AR without a suppressor, and let me just say, it was a huge mistake of using it for home defense without a suppressor. My wife and kids had hearing problems for nearly 5 months after our home defense encounter. So if you can't have NFA items in your state, use a PCC with hollow points just like how you would carry outside your home. Your ears and your families ears will thank me.
Your claim that PCCs wouldn't damage hearing when shot inside of a home is as false. All unsuppressed firearms shot inside and outside will damage hearing. I keep simple hearing protection right next to my home defense pistol and AR. Basic ear plugs.
@@Enjoyer.762 while it is true that any firearm without a silencer will cause hearing damage if shot in a enclose structure. The damage caused by an AR-15 chambered in 5.56 x 45 is way worse than a pistol (handgun or PCC) Both will cause hearing damage, but one will cause worse hearing damage than the other. I agree than having some sort of hearing protection handly is paramount, I prefer electronic over ear plugs just because for the ear plugs to provide maximum hearing protection they take more time tan the electronics to be properly fitted into the ear. And in an emergency time is in the essence. But if anything else is available even if ears plugs are somehow inserted into the ear canal they will provide some degree of protection.
I disagree regarding your statement about “PCC's is the way to go for home defense” but it is my opinion and my opinion alone. I prefer an AR-15 over a PCC. Nevertheless, more important than prefer one over the other, knowing how to use either one in a emeregency situation is more important. Sorry for what happened to your family.
@@paraAA82 Even using suppressors doesn't make it hearing safe without the use of hearing protection. Unless someone is using subsonic ammo which is the worst for defensive use. Subsonic totally over-penetrates the bad guy. Huge legal liability. I am pro 5.56 NATO running a standard 16" barrel carbine. 5.56 NATO / .223 Remington even milquetoast 55gr fmj M193 will not exceed 14" - 16" penetration according to FBI ballistic gel tests due fragmentation. At home defense distances, you're basically hitting the bad guy with near peak muzzle velocity of (2,900 - 3,000 fps) - classic fragmentation in tissue, rapid incapacitation, and no over-penetration. I have seen so many ballistic gel videos of 9mm, .45 ACP, 10mm, and .40 S&W PCCs even using hollow points exceed the FBI maximum gel penetration of 18" which simulates a pass through over-penetration.
@@Enjoyer.762 I don't even know why you're trying to argue the point. 5.56, or really any rifle round is very much louder than 9 mm or most any other common pistol caliber. Anyone that ever uses an indoor range has had the experience of the guy that shows up with his AR, and then suddenly even though you've been fine with just your ear muffs for the last 30 minutes, suddenly you need double ear protection because his rifle shots are so loud. It's not a question up for debate, it's obvious and self-evident, a PCC in 9 or 40 is going to be significantly quieter than a 5.56 rifle, and even more so for a 5.56 pistol. That translates into less impact on the eardrum and less chance of permanent hearing damage. And if you believe 9mm subsonic penetrates more than something like 5.56 green tip, which is the most common used, I just don't know what to tell you. Guess you really don't want to toss the bullets at the bad guy then; those will super duper over-penetrate. Unless you're talking only about your gel blocks or something, which would be a mistake. The over penetration you're worried about in a home defense scenario is your bullet going through an interior or exterior wall or a door and hitting someone on the other side of it with lethal force. Doesn't matter if you get maxim expansion inside the target. This isn't hunting. You start poking holes in a person's body, they generally start changing their behavior immediately. A subsonic pistol round won't make it through the cheapest interior door with a bunch of energy still in it. a 5.56 is designed to do exactly that. You can shoot someone through a car door with your AR and the bullet should fragment and expand pretty much exactly the same. I don't care about the specifics of the bad guys wound channel. I care I stop the dangerous behavior, and I care that a missed round doesn't kill my neighbor's kid sleeping in his bed or the person in the next door apartment. The more rural you are, the fewer neighbors you have and the few occupied bedrooms in your own home, the less of a safety problem 5.56 inside the house is. Regarding hear loss though, 5.56 is demonstrably a greater problem than 9mm.
Thanks for this one! One point that I would have liked to have seen was the PCC’s ballistics for a home defense scenario. As always, ammo choice is paramount, but often feel that factor is either overlooked or under estimated.
Any hollow point that is made for self defense is sufficient. There are plenty of channels out there that have done ballistics for hollow points out of handgun. If your PCC takes the same round as your every day carry and has a longer barrel, well you are going to have way better ballistics. My new home defense is a 13.5 PCC that shoots 124 grain federal HST's.
To each their own. If the PCC is your cup of tea...have at it. My preference is the old school Remington 870P. One: Unparalleled, Sheer stopping power / payload delivery. Two: the vast array of load options that allow the weapon to be tailored to various scenarios / domicile set-ups. Thank you USCCA for bringing us useful content.
I like 5.56 carbine myself with a 16” barrel. I’m 6’-2’ and it is perfect for my height, build, etc. The whole concept of having a 9mm carbine and a 9mm pistol and all you need is one caliper is cool!
I'm switching over to a PCC to reduce the number of calibers I need. I would prefer to have 1,000 rounds of 9mm vs. 500 rounds of 9mm and 500 rounds of .223. Plus, I can buy 9mm in bulk for a fraction of the cost of .223. Also, looking for something my whole family can shoot. My wife is intimidated by an AR but will shoot a Ruger PC all day long. I get the penetration testing and bullet difference discussion but for my home defense needs, the PCC is perfect. I'm not shooting 200 yards away. I'm surrounded by 600 acres of DNR land, and you can't see more than 50 yards away. If I were in an urban or more open area, I would rethink everything.
2 things, 1st, he said you can add a "stock" to it, not without a stamp or that would be a felony... 2nd, he said a con was you have to use two hands to operate it... that breaches the lords over at ATF's rule that a pistol is only ment to be shot with one hand, using two hands now removes it from pistol category to rifle and again another tax stamp or felony... might want to clarify and clean that up for the new to firearms people.
Longer site radius for improved aim, additional points of contact for control, increased bullet velocity from the longer barrel, less recoil. less potential for hearing loss, greater maneuverability inside your home plus the capacity to add lights and optics.
Absolutely right, this channel has been putting out videos with good titles but no meat in the video......I guess the idea is to put out as many videos as you can
You would store it loaded with safety on. Just like anything else, you should train using the safety. It takes no extra time to use an AR safety seeing how you deactivate it while presenting just like a 1911.
I watched a similar video from colon noir his guest made a good argument against suppressing a home protection gun. If theirs more than one intruder and you fire your gun they might not all hear it .so the loud noise good scare away other potential intruders
I agree with WPS's view. Suppressing something for home defense isn't necessary. Your hearing is less important than letting as many people in the area know that somethings going on. If someone 2 blocks away, hears the shot and looks out their window, maybe they see the offender fleeing. And your neighbors will probably call the cops sooner than you as you're preoccupied, though at that point I guess they probably won't be able to help much
Not having a stock on a shotgun is stupid. Go take a combat shotgun class with your Shockwave. You'll ditch that mall ninja toy in hurry when you realize how impractical, uncomfortable, slow and inaccurate you are using it.
@@benfrank1583 The overall length of a braced shotgun must be at least 26 inches or it's still a NFA violation. Biden's ATF soon will be turning millions of gun owners into instant felons overnight after braced firearms are classified as NFA firearms. Personally, I would avoid any braced firearms for home defense and stay strictly within the parameters of established firearms law; 16" barrel minimum for rifles and 18" barrel minimum for shotguns.
@@Enjoyer.762 nope. I will not comply. I did by getting brace in the first place and that's the end of it. Let's go Brandon! Also the shockwave is a forearm not a shotgun by definition from the beginning. If they ban them and come for mine I will use them. If there is a home invader I will use them doesn't matter to me what they are wearing.
This is going to be long. Today, October 11, 0558 am. I was on the Lou and the doorbell rang a bunch of times. I quick finished up so the person wouldn’t wake my sleeping daughters. (4 years, 5months old). There was a stranger at the door. First thought, “who the fk is this? Maybe his car broke down”. I went to the door (which has glass in the center so I could see the person without opening the door). I look outside, no car. I held my finger up so he could see I’ll be right back. THANK GOD I stumbled across the video of why you should always carry one in the chamber the other day. With the door locked, I went to my safe and grabbed my AR. I was able to rack one in the chamber then answer the door. Upon opening the door, I could tell the individual was either drunk or on something. He said, very kindly, is that a gun?!?! I said yes, I don’t know you and you kind of freaked me out. He proceeded to tell me he needed money for groceries. I told him, I’m sorry, I don’t have any cash. There’s a food pantry around the corner. They may be able to help. He said thank you and left, rather quickly. Anyway, half an hour later (that’s right now) my adrenaline is still pumping. But I’m grateful i watched that video. I think I may have scared him more than he scared me, and the situation was very peaceful. Thanks guys!
I feel like pistol caliber pistols would be best for home defense. I have 17 rounds, an extra magazine. It's much easier to keep it close to where I sleep. There isn't anywhere in my home I'd need a ranged weapon. I don't see why a rifle would be necessary or preferred.
I live out in the boonies and don’t have any neighbors within 5 miles of my house…. So I’m not worried about shooting neighbors or bullets going thru the wall,, whatever is closest to me ll do the job just fine
Clint Smith, a ex cop 👮🏻♂️ & SE Asia combat veteran dislikes PCCs. He like a few other senior cadre think rifle caliber SBRs are superior to pistol calibers. The pistol caliber ballistics may be less than a .300blackout or 5.56x45mm. I agree with Smith to a point. A PCC really has limited use & you'd be better armed with a rifle caliber.
That is true during the battle field where you need to stretch out to say 100+ yards. I was in the military (Rangers) from 2004-2010 and I saw my fair share of gun fights and gun battles and not once did I say "I want a PCC" in this situation. BUT in a home defense where your longest distance might be 10-15 yards, you don't need a rifle caliber. Matter of fact, if you use a rifle caliber and don't it have suppressed, well you are now at risk of blowing out your families ears. I know this first hand because I was involved in a home invasion here in Frisco, TX and had used a non suppressed AR. My wife and kids ears where damaged to the point where it took nearly 5 months for the tinnitus to get better. Matter of fact fast forward 6 years and my wife and kids still have tinnitus from time to time due to this event. A PCC shooting subs 9mm will 100% be as effective as an AR and so much safer on the ears. Now if you have a rifle caliber that is suppressed then yeah this will be the best way to go. But not everyone lives in a state where NFA items are legal.
That is a braced pistol not a carbine. I keep a Keltec Sub 2000 accessible which has 16" barrel and is a carbine. Under 6 lbs with 33 rounds of 9mm and a flashlight. Folds to 16"x7". Shotgun is still my primary.
I very much appreciate these videos, but this one was slim on substance. What calibers are better/worse? Is there more of a concern of over penetration with PCCs due to the longer barrel than a pistol? Is retention better because of the two hand hold?
If you watch this to the end I think it will end any thought of buying one. It did for me. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-59CZSoFC3lI.html
@@jelloman80 for sure. Just stating the fact that a BRACE, inadvertently called a STOCK, was DESIGNED to shoot one handed. My only point was that. Not that one should or shouldn’t use it one handed.
@@KendrasEdge757 oh for sure. 100 percent. My father had a saying that stuck with me. Don't bring a weopon to a fight unless you are willing to have it used on you. But in a self defense situation I'm going with the tightest grip so as to not have my gun wrestled out of my hands. So off topic, what would be a good home defense gun? @@jelloman80 yeah that definitely goes for knives as well. If you’re going to use a knife expect to get cut! Referencing home defense guns…..I can’t recommend what’s best for you. That depends on what you’re most comfortable with and where you live and how your home is setup can dictate whether a 10.5 AR or a 16” AR, or just a handgun would be best for you. Also to consider whether that home defense would take you outside and whether you’re in a big city or out in the country and could use a magnified optic or just a red dot. A lot to consider above what type of gun. I'd consider it... if I happened to be in the kitchen where my 9mm PCC is wall mounted, loaded, with 3 32-round mags hanging next to it. Otherwise, what the perp might get hit with depends on where I'm located. No way in hell would my .44 magnum (Desert Eagle) be used. The JHP are so shiny golden, too pretty to be wasted on intruders. ...that, and if ballistic gel is any fair indication, the wound channel + trauma would turn the internal organs into liquid.

Depends on how they are accessorized. If the pcc is built minimal for home defense it will be much lighter than a legal size ar15 rifle. I have held both and a legal pcc can be handled easily with one hand. jmo I have both.
Some PCCs are actually heavier. Seeing how they often have a super heavy solid blow back BCG. I have an 8 inch 9mm AR that is heavier than my 11.5 inch 5.56 AR.

It's a brace. I've always used both my hands... as have vets... and range officers. It is possible to use it single handedly which is why the brace was invented in the first place (handicapped and old folk). People on RU-vid try it but can't help but bust out laughing because it looks just as ridiculous as it feels.

Didn't y'all just put out a video about using the 556 as a home defense weapon........1 of the reasons its good is becasue it is a light high energy bullet that will fall apart going thru the outside wall so you don't have to worry about killing somebody outside like you would using the pistol calipers oh and you don't need to show on video that you know how to clear a weapon......once I read a guy cringes every time the barrel passes in front of the camera.....like the gun is going off go thru the camera into the internet and kill everybody watching......10 yrs after the video was made

Considering surviving and giving up your gun to law enforcement after a home defense situation, it seems to me a cheap shot gun is a good choice. Should keep you alive and not hurt too bad if you never see it again due to confiscation by police. Maybe you would get it back, but maybe not.
Too much intro and outtro(?) 60 seconds of actual topic discussion. Gun safety is important, of course, but “ the gun is safe and clear” would have been enough. More than half of the video should have been on topic, just saying.
I'm sorry, but this is not an example of a good source of information. I'm not judging the guy in the video, but I can tell that he was probably reading a script, and not speaking freely.
