As a widow with experience in being dumped by couples, I encourage you to continue seeing your friend and including her in your life. My husband and I always included our single friends and they were the most fun and happy to be included.

I agree keep your friends that have lost their spouses in your life. My husband’s best friend of 30 yrs passed away unexpectedly, his wife was also my husband’s friend. When he passed, she felt like a third wheel. She felt sad to be around us, I think we reminded her too much of all the good times. She told us she had to reinvent herself and find her new friends. We miss her terribly but we know she’s happy.

My dad passed last March. She and my dad were best friends, did everything together. She too felt like a third wheel in their old card group. Unfortunately, many ladies in our small community have lost their husbands and my mom ( I’m so proud of her) has reached out to those women and invited them to lunch or offered a shoulder. Sadly, their group is growing but they are finding comfort in one another’s company. I imagine being able to share their loss with someone who truly understands what each is going through is helpful moving forward. She does occasionally see her couple friends but I see her slowly creating a group of her own.

Having been divorced you often feel out of place with your married friends. However there are 2 sides to every truth. Those couples either learn to be sure you are comfortable with them while they feel uneasy or lose to dear friends at the same time. I believe in these circumstances we need to feel uncomfortable for a bit to assist our friend in grief. By doing extra for him or her while they grieve then they gradually are comfortable enough to stay in the fold.. I sense we often think of ourselves before the one who has been grief stricken or wounded. Because we are reminded of our immortality or of the difficulties life can bring. I may be wrong 🤔 yet perhaps not. 🩵🤷‍♀️💞😕

My husband retired in January as a bridge inspector for AZ DOT. Most of the time he did not close bridges to inspect. He had to brave the traffic. We are sorry for your friend. Sending condolences.

Another great video! Don’t forget to mention The Enrichment Academy. If someone wants a beginner class in just about anything they can sign up through the Academy. You are guaranteed a spot! Lots and lots of different classes offered. Yes, it costs a bit but well worth it. We teach dance on Sunday at Okahumpka, beautiful Rec center, and we encourage our class students to make friends in class. It’s another great way to meet people with the same interests!

The "forever home" question is one of the surprises I learned about the Villages which no one mentioned originally. I learned that few folks "die" in the villages. Instead most folks sell as they become less mobile, or a surviving spouse sells shortly after their loss. That makes the Villages a transition Home where most folks keep one eye on returning to, or settling near surviving family. However, that also make for a great fun place for Seniors to play and invite their families for vacations and outings.

Where do I start? I am a single, 77 year old female living in the Sierra Foothills of CA for the past 23 years on a six-acre horse property. Yes, I have been a horse crazy girl/lady my entire life. My dear younger sister and her hubby have lived happily in the VIllages for 7+- years, so I have visited and enjoyed every visit. Now tired of cleaning up after six horses and planning a move to Florida. Even shipped one of my horses on ahead of me to a lovely 40-acre stable in Trenton. If I could afford a horse property in the VIllages, I would definitely consider it! I really enjoy your vlogs and can't wait to be a Floridian!

Another good show! Forever home? We moved to a CCRC (continuing care retirement community) where there are assisted living, nursing care, and dementia care facilities on the same campus. Easy to visit friends, neighbors, and spouses who had to move for additional care. But, the buy-in is very expensive, and you don't actually own your home. You can't get any of your buy-in fee back after a few years, so you need to be sure you really want to move there before you financially commit.

Can you use the buy-in fee for future care at the facility since you don’t get it back after a few years? My Mom paid an “entry fee” for an independent living home on a continuing care campus like you. She got the full fee back after 6 years when she moved to assisted living on the campus. Guess it depends on the facility.

@@cherrybb3888 It varies from CCRC to CCRC. "Buy-in" residents here start out in independent living homes. If we subsequently have to move to assisted living or the nursing home on campus, we are charged a substantially lower monthly rate than someone from outside the community ("direct admission" who did not pay the buy-in fee) is charged. That's why a large % of our buy-in fee is considered pre-paid medical expense by the IRS. We were allowed to deduct that as medical expense on our income taxes the first year. Since the buy-in was about $150k more than our income that year, the IRS allowed us to use that excess to convert some traditional IRAs to Roths. The amount of our buy-in that is refundable diminishes each month and drops to 0% after about 5 years. Again, that varies from place to place.

@@debbiericker8223 Interesting. Sounds like you got a benefit on the front end and will get a benefit on the back end if you progress further with care needs. In my mom’s case she paid $265k entry fee when she moved into her independent living townhome ( three bed/2 bath with 2 car garage, my dad was to move with her but died suddenly right before their move ), with her rent on the unit cut in half. Then 100% refund of the entry fee 6 years later when she moved to AL on the campus. She does pay full price in AL. Thanks for responding.

I'm a 43 year old widow of an IFD firefighter, and have concluded through my research that Florida will be where I retire due to the tax advantages. I've been considering TV for a few weeks now and I'm delighted to have found your channel! I'm aware that I'm still too "young" for the community but you've convinced me that I'll have plenty to enjoy once I reach my Villages age. I'm so sorry for your loss. For Linda, Jerry is on the right track about the markers, sort of. Have you tried root touch up? I've been using it for in-between color. In the color section at Walmart. It's a spray tint. Use a sheet of paper or cardboard to shield your face, spray in the part and sides. It's wonderful. It washes right out. I also lay a towel down over my sink cause I'm messy! But it does wipe up! Just in case this happens again. Love your show ❤

I agree with Tait don’t forget about Al’s wife make sure she feels included in things . As far as the grumpy guy is concerned? Sounds like jealousy to me my friend is like that she lives outside the villages and although the villagers gave her a nice income to live on as a dog groomer, she always complained about it to me but it was pure hatred due to the fact she couldn’t afford to get a house there. More power to you all Enjoy that community while you can.. An active lifestyle is the key to longevity!

Remember to grab shoes during a tornado siren warning! And cover yourselves with blankets or towels. We have a slab home on a lake in Wisconsin, so we know the drill too. Also, candles and lighters or matches, charged phones, charged auxiliary batteries and an extra set of clothes. Always enjoy your show, it helps me look forward to being a snowbird there since our Wisconsin summers are amazing and we enjoy our lake time without the ‘gators. Just need to keep track of the bluegills nipping on us, lol. ;)

My mom got stuck in her recliner during a power outage. Then when a technician came out when it needed to be repaired, he said she didn't have any batteries in it. What? It's an electric chair! Turns out there is a battery pack for these types of situations when the power goes out. The sales person never explained this and I guess we never read the instructions! Maybe they all have it now.

Regarding Putting back the shopping carts, we taught our three children to consider the preciousness of others and that there’s always someone behind us and that would not like to see littering, including golf carts all over a parking lot. In fact, my sons first job was picking up the carts at a local supermarket in New Jersey. Lol.

My house was built with large concrete slabs instead of concrete block. I hope it will hold up in either a tornado or hurricane. My master bath has no windows and so that is where I would go in case of an emergency. My bigger concern is the high power lines that are pretty close. Love Gizmo's jokes especially the pointless one.

Sorry about your friend Al. Looks like Brad was holding the alligator at Swamp Fever airboats. We were able to do the same when I took my family there. Loved your example of getting ready for a hurricane. I laughed out loud, especially when Jerry tried to get out of the chair! 😂
