Honestly S/o Rich and tan, this is the reason ive been subbed to this channel for 3 years. No pretentious fashion high horse, just everyday clothing tips with some entertainment.
@@carlwest5936 exactly! What the hell is he talking about? These guys aren’t paragons of style or fashion. Everything they wear is always something that everyone else is wearing. “Oh, let’s wear workwear and talk about it because everyone else is wearing it right now!” How about being original?
@@dustinperalta1619 haha a carhartt is a necessity to me and others that live in Indiana. When I see worn ones or worn for one season ones I grab them off my local Facebook market place for $20-$30 and sell them to white collared workers for $100+ 😂😂😂
Glad that workwear is in style now. Its what Ive been used to for a few years. Work construction and when I get off work to hang with the boys, all i gotta do is take off my orange vest and throw on a pair of af1s and im set lol
@@fleichy6425 lol yeah I do. But because of covid, I usually just hang with my boys after work for lil bit and drink. Then I take a shower when I get home. But if I’m going out in public, I take a shower and switch my drawers and undershirt
Agree. I work in labour and my black C003 coat is SO versatile it can be dressed up or down. Put on some tan double fronts and black nubuck timberlands and BOOM you got a nice fit
What’s with the Kanye shade in the cover art he definitely is the only reason most of y’all even dress like this he been doing that for years way before it was a trend ?
From my perception I believe they may have been referencing that Kayne has on a work wear jacket that looks too similar to a denim jacket and doesn’t quite have the same popular aesthetic of the faded beige, black or grey ones. Obviously it’s up to personal preference in what colour you buy however that the message I got from it. Hope that helps !
For #5, those Carhartt tees from boutiques and the Carhartt tee from like Dick's/department stores aren't the same. If you ever bought both you can feel and see the difference in sizing and quality. Boutiques carry Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP), it's a separate line. Surprised you guys don't know this.
wild that people dont know WIP, amazing products. if you can get the WIP version if the jackets (i got mine on sale) totally worth it. Crazy details and high quality construction
I am heated. I wear my arctic quilt 12oz firm duck coat every day to the worksites for 2 years and it looks great. Now to see these simps wearing snapbacks with it its just.. idk a fad i guess. Damn hypebeasts
Carl west is apparently the only one who can wear carhartt, all of us aren't good enough. He cares so much that he said in his own words I'm heated. Imagine being mad about someone wearing clothing. Not only is that dumb but that's pretty weird if you ask me. If people wearing clothes makes you that mad then your one weird individual.
@@sylasmalone6126 Its workwear. Not “drip” gucci gang hypebeast crap. Its meant to be worked in at worksites not worn with $2000 jordans in the mall. Its an authentic brand and you hypebeasts are ruining that.
The reason you find larger or bigger in coats is because most of the time it’s bought to be worked in outside so you usually size up to fit thick hoodies underneath the coat. I love where it snows 5 months out of the year and I work construction that’s why I know lol. I only wear carhartt coats so I get a large to fit heavy weight carhartt hoodies under the coat.
the reason why high end retailers charge that much for carhartt is cus it's carhartt WIP pieces, which are generally pricier. the carhartt yall copped were regular workwear carhartt pieces so the prices will vary heavy.
Haha as a dairy worker I agree just went to get some more work shirts seen these kids buying some as well saying gonna wear this to my date tonight 🤦🏽♂️
Their just hypebeast hoping on trends, trying to tell people whats cool or not but yet they don't have any personal style in any way. It's like they got that cali douchebag starter kit.
Cahartt has a line called "Carhartt WIP". Its more fitted than the original Carhartt. Its been very popular in Europe ,UK and Japan for years. I followed the trend from Japanese fashion magazines back in the day (there was no instagram at the time) Im an older cat I had both my WIP Michigan jackets for almost 10 years now from a UK shopping site. Weird that work wear has been getting popular with the younger crowd in the US for the year 2020 when it has been for dudes my age for years...
i got one more, don’t over buy it, coming from a blue collar family and experiencing that lifestyle. it’s supposed to be affordable for them so respect that too. I like my carhartt and dickies but I also have had to use it for work and stuff so don’t make the prices go through the roof
Been wearing workwear for over 25-30 years and have never met anyone stressing out over how to wear workwear, distressing clothes with rocks, or buying trashed clothes with oil and sweat stains. In my world people take care of their clothes and love letting the patina develop naturally. Kids I guess... ;)
There’s so much reasonably priced new/used stuff. You just have to know where to look. Never heard anyone who’s in construction or trades say they can’t find/afford workwear lol
I work blue collar and I’m into fashion. I live in both worlds and I’m not surprised because when I was younger I seen my pops in workwear also seen artists like Nas, Jayz, DMX, Wu Tang in the same workwear. Being from New York this was normal.
My carhartt jacket picked up a sweet patina in college while working in a structures research lab (rough carpentry, concrete, steel). Now that I work in construction, I don't feel sus around the trades because my jacket looks and is broken in naturally. With that being said, putting a new jacket into a bag of rocks is kind of overkill 😅 like "distressed" shoes and raw denim, just wear ya damn jacket!
Tbf, the high end outlets that sell Carhartt will sell Carhartt WIP which has better fitted pieces. As a shorter guy (5'5) I get the Carhartt WIP Detroit jacket because the regular detroit jacket is oversized. Only issue is the price is ridiculously different.
I always get strange looks when I wear my actual workwear out at the store or something. I was a cement handliner and a landscaper for a few years, and my clothes got pretty trashed. Now I build pressure vessels and still wear my old clothes, because they're still intact, just filthy. I have an old Detroit jacket that's got red primer and oil stains all over I still wear and often times running errands after work around town people are giving me those looks like I'm just sporting it for style. I'm 26 and rail thin, so I guess I don't look like I actually do that kind of work. But, whatever.
i went to a vintage store out here in houston and they wanted 100+ for a worn carhartt. i went to bass pro and they had a black washed jacket looked vintage for the same price. don’t sleep on Bass pro shop or Academy!!!
I grew up in a working class family, and my folks always bought me Dickies pants because they were affordable, durable, and could be worn with everything and for every occasion. I still wear them to this day for the same reasons. Put a nice press and some starch in them and they double as dress pants!
They got that whole section wrong; carhartt’s are so stiff when brand new that ‘breaking them in’ is an necessity to me. I wear them to work in the cold Indiana winters, it’s not for that distressed look but most farm stores and construction stores around my area suggest covering them with rocks and washing on a heavy cycle for flexibility when working.
For anyone looking for an alternative to the Carhartt Detroit Jacket, Dickie's also makes a jacket called the Eisenhower Jacket for a fraction of the price.
Pretty surprised you guys don’t know the difference between inline carhartt and carhartt WIP. The cuts , colors , and materials are all different from one another.
Blue collar worker here. We got a saying " everyone wants carharrt sh*t, till it's time to do carharrt sh*t." This is why you kids today can't change a spare tire.
Yo don't they live in LA? He gotta be roasting in that fit unless the AC is cranked up in that room. It looks cool, not gonna lie, but how cold does it get there? It looks like something I'd wear if it was 50 out at least.
Hey fellas. U guys may wanna do research on Carhartt WIP. Still owners of original carhartt. Just the fashionable department made with a lot of organic cottons. Super soft clothing. And same durability. Better proportional cuts. Less wide more chic and relaxed.
Lol all you guys sitting here arguing about the ethics of work wear as fashion, it's really stale! Designers have been doing this for a long time, so I understand how some people might see it as appropriation but there are so many different examples of this that go back years. Flannel shirts, aviators, camo patterns; none of these started as fashion items, all were meant to serve a specific purpose while on the job. So it makes sense to me why this has become a thing, and since I started buying Carhartt about 4 years ago I discovered as many others did that they make quality clothing!
Tip # 4 is the difference between men's and women's clothing thickness and quality: if you put women's pieces into a pillow case with rocks, you will produce holes instead of a "vintage" look 🤣 these were great tips though!
Even though this isn’t workwear, every time I see workwear jackets pulled off well, it reminds me of 2008 Daniel Craig Quantum of Solace with the Tom Ford Harrington and Levi’s.
For real I like these guys been watching for years. I hate this trend I am a welder and construction worker stop being posers this is lame! Almost disrespectful to blue collar guys
Thanks for the great content Mr. Richie! Today is my 17th birthday and I've been watching your content since I was 14 and I can say that you're one of the youtubers who have made a difference in my life, keep up the great work!
I have an Ollies Bargain Outlet near me and the other day I found a really heavy and thick canvas jacket. Tried it on and it felt nice. Marked down to like $25. Wasn’t Carhartt or anything but it was still a heavy duty jacket. Grabbed one for me and my gf.
You guys should see the all the awesome little women doing commercial construction! It's not all just big dudes. I barely wear a large but it's just cause I have long arms and I'm sensitive about my skinny wrists lol but here I am mixing concrete and doing plumbing and electrical rough ins. Construction is all about problem solving in regards to the limits of the human body. You can operate heavy equipment and still call yourself a construction worker!
Strangely, Carhart work pants run sort of small in the waist. I wear a 34 usually and got the 36 carpenter pants in both khaki and blue, and both pairs are fairly tight for a 36. So be warned, maybe go up 2 sizes from your usual waist size.
I Can't believe how uninformed this video is, Carhartt Work wear (the kind you find at Dick's/Fred Myers) is Actual Work Wear it's oversized for people actually reaching over head and need the Room to WORK, Carhartt WIP (on Essence/ Nordstrom) is the more Fashion line .. the sizes are TTS you get better Color and materials
I work labour and my carhartts are my best friends. After I come home and shower I just gotta throw on a detroit, some dungarees and boots and boom a good fit
I’m not even blue collar (been on a construction site or two working for my Uncle but it’s not my career) but I just like the practicality of it. I’m also a massive conspiracy theorist so blue jeans or cotton work pants, boots, and a tee w a durable jacket will be perfect when the inevitable societal collapse comes
Y’all in these comments gatekeeping workwear, my dad was a blue collar oil worker for 35 years, and even though he’s retired, he still rocks Carhartt. I buy him a Carhartt gift card every year for Christmas. He didn’t just hang it up because he doesn’t work in it anymore. 😂 It looks good, stays warm, and lasts forever. What are you so mad about?
The overpay part isn’t correct Richie. Because Carhartt has their own fashion brand which is Carhartt WIP which is what those boutiques carry and the prices come straight from Carhartt
