In this pencil drawing tutorial I am demonstrating some common mistakes beginners make when drawing noses in Graphite pencil.

Eyes are half way down the face, the mouth is the bottom quarter and eyes are the top quarter.

Viona Natalie Also there is an eye length (generally) between both eyes. The ears go from the eyebrows to the bottom of the nose (front view). The corners of the mouth line up to the middle of the pupils. (Default position) Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

the "don't" demonstration of the nose is really relatable and accurate for me. I did my nose like the "don't" demonstration and I always felt as if I was missing something thus I ended up forcing more details. Thank you, now I dont have to feel as if the realistic face and nose I draw isnt out of place and non-realistic

Although I have no intention to become dedicated to realistic drawing, I still find it a really good way to study the shape and structure of faces, muscles and limbs in general, because no detail is omitted in a proper realistic drawing :P

Thank you for this video, lots of good points made. You say often how you keep looking at the reference photo but it would be nice for viewers to see the reference photo so we can see what you're trying to emulate with the drawing. When you add the shadows in just the right area, we can't see how you're making that choice because we don't see the photo you are copying with your art. Otherwise, it is a great quick study of how you make your drawings look realistic.

hey Kristy, I just wanna thank you for your vids they help me in so many areas of my work .I especially enjoyed the color pencil vids because I struggle with blending dark skin tone and skin tones in general. Thank you so much, I can draw(said, my art teacher in my new school) but I never did any drawing before. I just have talent stored in need to used for at least something. So in class today I tried to draw but did know where to place the pencil, but thanks to this video I can copy exactly what I see in a picture when drawing noses I just draw a hole bunch on paper after this video and don't know how I did it. It was so funny to watch the don'ts part for that is what I was thinking before drawing a nose on the paper today.

I think a video with a different medium would be sooo helpful, Ive been trying to work with conte crayon and I find it hard to use because I am not used to it and unlike charcoal there’s no soft to hard tones

Hey Kristy, thanks for what you do. Your videos have helped me tremendously. Do you (or anyone) have any advice on a good place to find reference photos for doing portraits? Finding good face shots can be such an odd challenge lol. I mean I can go on an adventure to get a lighthouse photo; but I can’t go around taking 3/4 view shots of strangers heads :p. Hey! I read somewhere that to stop a finished graphite from smudging in ur sketchbook add a thin layer of watercolour. Is that true for charcoal drawings too? What do you apply to preserve ur graphite and charcoal drawings?

I was looking for tutorial tips on drawing noses because I'm one of those weird artists that can draw realistic animals and make it look really good but I honestly suck at drawing actual people and I really wanna improve my style and I would really just really like to say thank you so much for this I really really appreciate it and if you could do a "dos and don'ts" for mouth/teeth it would be really helpful I know you might not even see this comment but if you do take the time to read it would be really nice thanks very much this video was incredibly helpful!
