The Honda Prologue is the best electric vehicle on the market it has regular door handles which air dynamics is not going to hurt the the range hardly crap so you might as well just have regular door handles which are more reliable than pop out motorized door handles more crap to break tesla's known for malfunctioning door handles. it has regular push button start on and off you have a regular gear selector you have regular turn signal your regular windshield wiper you have regular headlight buttons regular AC controls regular radio controls all this other stuff or people just doing engineering for the sake of engineering which is not good engineering just like that drink holder it's just complicated it's it's just more crap to break on this kia just like all this all these old Cadillacs back the air suspension all of them went out just more to break it's it's crap design 101 and Honda knows what they're doing most of you guys don't know what they're doing I said motorized charging port doors always malfunctional in Tesla's the hot the Honda prologues is just regular you just press it in it pops out it's not motorized it's mechanical that's not going to break like a Tesla's. also glass roofs hail stones will bust through them video on youtube of it dangerous. tesla might be good software engineers but vehicle engineers they are not.

@@billybobbob3003 Based on a rather long RU-vid (like an hour) of a press day drive of a Honda Prologue, it appears there’s a lot to like. It appears Honda tuned the GM Blazer EV Ultium guts of the Prologue for a pleasant balance of driving fun with comfortable accommodations for its occupants. Honda did not try hard to disguise the Ultium derivation. Things like steering column are straight General Motors. It appears the on board software is also largely GM kit. The reviewers noticed that now and then, the stability control identifies itself as “Stabilitrack” when toggled. I believe I recognize the door handles as the same ones that are on my Chevy Bolt. I agree that the alleged aerodynamic savings aren’t going to be great by switching to motorized flush mount handles which pop out. The latter are just more mechanisms to break or jam up in the winter when humidity inevitably gets in the door. Motorizing door handles adds the weight of the mechanisms and the wiring to power them. People like to write off General Motors as backward and uncreative, but General Motors has been building electric propulsion systems of various kinds since about the 1950s and General Motors has done detailed research into battery chemistry and prolonging service life for many years. GM built deplorable cars, especially in the 1990, but GM has over a hundred years of institutional knowledge of how to build products to a price point, I’ve been impressed with what ai have read about the Silverado W/T 3. It is only available to fleets right now. There is an unusually large battery around 200 KWH, but the battery provides significant buffer to mitigate aging effects and is able to absorb a crazy 350 KW for something like 50% of its charging curve, and 200+ KW from 50% to 80%. Naysayers accuse the battery of being inelegant and old tech. I doubt fleet drivers really care as long as they charge as quickly as possible. The Silverado is one of the more sensible electric pickup trucks available. Now if GM would make enough of them…

I own a KIA EV: I can control almost every vital function without taking my hands off the wheel: windshield wipers front/rear, cruise, phone, indicators, bright/dip beam, regen - prabably other stuff. Never looking away from the road. Most of the buttons functions are also available through the touch screen, but they offer you the option to use tactile controls. I like this for the radio and heat. It's your choice. I find it difficult to believe this is so traumatic.

There is an ideal number of buttons. What that figure is depends on each person. The basic principle should be, if you need to change it whilst driving it should be physical and easy to see. In my opinion Tesla is too extreme so I like what Kia is doing. Who’s right? That’s down to personal preference.

And its not a thousand dollar addition for buttons. These buttons are planned to be carried over across multiple models and the cost reduces to only a couple of dollars for buttons. The shift selector would be a problem the first time you drive it (or the first week). You learn it and you use it, especially given the fact that you don't need to use it when the car is moving, like all the other controls that are often moved to the touchscreen or converted to capacitive...

I am happy to see somebody making the case against buttons. A lot of people have made a sport to claim to want them, while many, many of us enjoy the simplicity of touchscreen interfaces. I respect that some people what their buttons, but it was high time to also have somebody giving voice to the millions of us who actually enjoy the uncluttered logical interfaces of buttons free interfaces. For me, going back to these things feels like going to steam. Many like it; there is probably a market for both.

I prefer physical buttons. Once you're familiarized, you can just go by muscle memory without taking eyes off the road. Plus the button will forever be there, a software update won't change that. @@patreekotime4578 Accents are not an issue. Simply select the native language and use that. Dealing with the deaf? That would be an issue. Well, I hate buttons. I rented cars all over the world and often arrived late at night. Try and figure out where buttons are and how the manual controls work in a strange car. It sucks and can be very dangerous if you guess wrong or forgot how to do something. And no I never started to drive until I had at least a familiarization of the controls. But every car is different. I am not sure there is a solution for a deaf person using voice commands. I have watched people become very distracted using physical buttons as well so that is not unique to voice commands. I am not sure what being a renter has to do with voice commands. I am not sure what programming needs to be done to use voice commands other than select the language. If you lose your voice, go back to bed and get well. A bit of levity but I was smart enough to not have 6 kids and my kids would never be screaming in the back of the car. We would be back in the house or in a parking lot handling the situation. The screaming kids alone is distracted driving and should not be tolerated.

Having no stalks in Tesla is precisely the thing that people absolutely hate about it. In fact, European Union is going to regulate essential mandatory buttons and stalks, so the people have basic functions accessible immediately at their fingertips. KIA is absolutely fantastic that they go against the American drive to cut cost and make driver experience a nightmare at the same time. Car controls have been refined over 100 years and we don't need Tesla's stupid move to remove essential buttons and stalks that they are audacious enough to call "innovation." Hi Sandy and Sue, have to say I am not usually fond of blue but have to say my wife and I loved the colour when we saw the EV9 in Florida. Overall I liked the vehicle, unfortunately I got the run around at the dealership when we had a deposit down on the EV6, so we walked away from KIA and most likely will never go back. We live in Canada and are last to the table when it comes to cars, most US dealers had about 10 cars on the lot while we in Canada were on a year or longer waiting list. Have a great day and look forward to your next video. Andrew

The basics of turn signal and wiper stalks is preferred, even though Tesla settled on a cheaper design. Basically, the fewer buttons the cheaper the build. There is a process of educating and training customers to use non-traditional interfaces, I’d prefer a tiered setting that simplifies all systems at a basic level for inexperienced customers, then medium and full option settings.

I kind of disagree here. I personally love kia and Hyundai approach for not giving up a buttons. The last thing i want while driving is taking my eyes off the road and dig through the menu trying to hit that tiny area on the screen which always seems off to one side or the other (it sits behind the glass afterall). I sure could get used to one big screen but buttons will always be my choice and I'm a technology guy.

I’m surprised that “an abundant amount of buttons is overwhelming”. To me it seems the most useful control buttons are nicely placed within reach of the driver to avoid distractions while driving. I am a Model Y driver and don’t mind the minimalist style but will for sure take buttons over no buttons like in my case. I agree with some of the observations of this video but disagree with others. It sucks that this video feels like a let’s “low key bash Kia” review. Especially when there’s basically no other competition for this car at this price point.

Buttons? ARE distracting. Anyone who says they don't subconsciously glance away to either look for the button or check the setting is mistaken, or lying. . What you want is one button, under your thumb then voice control to activate ANY control you should be using while moving. The obscure, less used controls? You shouldn't be using those anyway (but as you know(?) you can still use those via voice command..... Safely). "Low key bash"? What are you on? . More like valid suggestions for making the vehicle better, or cheaper (more profitable?) Or BOTH..... . Any design team worth their salt would be taking note and making changes for the next iteration. . You missed the parting comments? Watch again?

Sandy has a one track mind on buttons. When he sees a button he only sees the cost the manufacturer. Although somehow he keeps giving Mercedes and BMW glowing reviews for hideous vehicles filled with bad designs and filled with horrendously tacky (glowing fake crystal) buttons. So he definitely has some brand bias problems and blind spots. Personally, I see a handful of useful physical controls elegantly placed. 🤷‍♂️ Its quite the opposite of the buttons everwhere problem some cars have.... GM ice vehicles are ridiculous.

@@rogerstarkey5390 Speaking from experience here… Why does it bother you if the buttons are there anyway? to your point, if you don’t like them use the voice commands. It’s all about preference, doesn’t hurt to just have them there. It’s 100% more distracting having to dig through screen menus vs just pressing a single physical button. Not sure how you find that more distracting. I think you didn’t read my comment correctly either, I did say they mentioned some pretty good points. Also based on the rest of the comments here, you are in the minority my friend. Have a great day.

It seems like lots of Auto Manufacturers don't pay very good attention to the USER INTERFACE. To me this is critically important to the user experience and will be remembered mostly for what was bad about it. The user interface is particularly important for a vehicle that is used for rental although that does not seem to be the likely use case for Kia EV9's. I am sure the somebody at KIA had to sign-off on many aspects of this vehicle, whoever signed-off on this user interface needs to be held accountable, IMO.

Unless there is level 5 self driving feature, driver control should be accessible. Tesla’s minimalism is good but multi level menu is not good when driving unless one drives only Teslas. Even then, software update changes menu schemes and defrost is not easily accessible in snowy night could be a disaster. Same problem Apple has with Apple UI, once you are in it, one cannot get out of Apple control. I usually like Sandy’s reviews but this review was too much lip service to Tesla. Where is EV9 performance and battery life reviews? I am very disappointed Sandy. I guess I will have to watch more European EV reviews.

This EV is huge, but it can take off like a rocket. I like SUVs, but they are sluggish, but this EV takes off on a hill like an ICEV sportscar. I like the feeling of being big, strong, and fast. However, because of its size, it is difficult to maneuver through narrow streets. BTW, I am not getting any younger so I appreciate driving with ease and less headache. Cyber truck? try to replace the body (if it gets into an accident or catch fire) in this bad economy. That is gonna be a headache. To clean Cyber truck, it is going to waste money cleaning it. I think Cyber truck is too ahead of its time. There is a reason why stock price is going down.

Kind of disappointed with this review and complaining about all of the buttons on the steering wheel. As with any new car, it can sometimes take time to learn the controls. I just test drove a 2024 Model 3. The guy had to walk me through how to shift gears and use the other functions that used to be on two stalks. Are you telling me you can sit in a new M3 or S or X and just drive away? The less buttons, the more complicated. I think Tesla took a huge misstep by removing the stalks. My first time through a rotary I struggled to find the directional button, now at 6 o clock during the turn, to indicate I was exiting. Bad design. I think a mix of buttons and screen and voice controls is best. Not sure any manufacturer has nailed that combo yet.

Its a good review of the Kia EV9, but I honestly don't agree with the button issue Sandy has. It's just plain he doesn't like non-touch screen buttons as engineer, he's not looking at what maybe more of a convenience of a owner/consumer. Sandy wants streamline everything, which as potential customer would be negative at least for me. I nearly wanted to laugh when he said he would think touchless controls and having wireless key is better, a phone can be hacked. Kia recently had a done of issues of hackers hot-wiring various vehicles that had shared electrical interface via a USB port. My only concern is that with the button thing is they're too blended in to the console and don't stand out for a user to find more immediately. Not everyone wants a Tesla style console.

The vents are for the hvac& cooling systems evaporator/radiator. They can open while charging if it needs to heat/cool the battery. Also depending on how the hvac has been used during driving it may run fans and such for a little while to dry out condensation after you finish driving. When that happens theres a message displayed as you turn off so the owner knows what’s going on.

One you drive a Tesla, you understand why all those meaningless cyrpic button dust collectors on other cars are not needed. It does need to be a compromise. Most people will say have physical controls for lights/turn signals, audio and climate control, cruise control - the stuff you frequently need to adjust while driving. And all the rest can be under menus in the info screen. And I don't think most people will lose their s---- over a start button.
