You drafted such a cute pattern. 👌🏼Got my pattern all ready to go. I’m thinking there will be a lot of darling little Alisa dresses going out around the world. 😊
You are the BEST! There are many dress styles they accept, but I just thought that a smaller dress that is simple and relatively quick to put together is going to be something that almost everyone will already have the fabric for and a little bit of time!
I’m so excited for this video! I’ve been sewing for Dress a Girl for several months and I love the dresses, their mission and the thought of what these precious girls will enjoy when they revive the dresses! Also, the opportunity to sew on some darling, jolly fabrics!,,
I am going to give your other 2 free patterns a go this year. So obsessed with your panel dress pattern!!!! So extremely fun to use up my remnants of fun fabrics. Thank you for your “Thoughtful Creativity”. Blessings to you and your family ❤
Alisa, you know I’ve been sewing dresses for Dress a Girl for a few years now. I love that Mari and other You Tubers are spreading the word, and their joy. Thank you for the cute pattern. ❤️❤️
Thank you so very much for creating this beautiful dress for Project Dress A Girl that is going to bless so many people. This means so incredibly much!
Hello, just want to say thank you for posting this video I did donate six dresses to the foundation also I used your pattern. Do you have any other patterns that yoy created where I can print out. I'm a beginner sewer which was very helpful to me
I have been Facebook member of this group for several years now and bought the labels and a pattern kit. I just have not gotten around to making it. Yesterday I pulled it out thinking I need to make it. And here you put it on your site. I guess that means I need to get to making dresses. I do love the pattern you did.
He he, Lisa - I guess so, things happen for a reason :) That's so awesome to know that you wanted to participate as well. I am going to be cutting mine and sewing mine as a batch sewing, so that way it goes a little faster.
Thank you for highlighting this charity! I have been looking for something like this that I can do. Even found my closest ambassador, and she is about 20 minutes away. Your channel is a wonderful way to deploy us sewists for charity efforts!
have been watching Mari unpack the many, many dresses she received for her Project Dress a Girl and your pattern showed up multiple times. I myself have made it twice (for the same organization) including with lining to make it 'reversible' and find it to be a very well planned and easy to sew/follow directions. So wanted to thank you for that personally.
Hi. Love your videos. It's easy to follow. I need help. My daughter wants a yellow princess dress for her 7th birthday. I'm clueless about how to do it.
I am so thankful that I met you, Mari and other ladies who introduced my sewing group in Puerto Rico, Sirena Patterns, to this special sewing charity! Blessings and more blessings to all. I already bought the fabric and will meet the deadline!! Happy sewing, indeed!!
For your raglan shirt, do you have a pattern for mixed fabric bases, as in a shirt with both knit and woven fabric? Last year I made and donated masks to medical professionals but the whole time I honestly felt like I wasn't doing enough or doing a good job so I had to stop after a while. I really would like to do something good with sewing again though.
how to cut out the bias tape?? didn't see a link to how to do that. I did buy your bias tape makers a while ago. do you cut it first out of the fabric or after you cut the pattern out?
Pattern first by folding opposite edges in and cutting back and front on the fold, then cutting the ruffle and what is left goes to bias tape. Also, if you look at the first page of the pattern it says - it does not have to be one prolonged piece, I have combined what I have to make longer bias tape pieces. Also, another solution would be to add a contrasting bias tape, so that way you can cut yours from a completely different piece of fabric and not worry about it. Bias tape tutorial here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PHzumX7wrZE.html I am using red bias tape maker for my bias tape for this dress.
Alisa. I am trying to follow along. You mentioned 9 inches of bias tape for the key hole opening. I didnt hear you say how long for the armholes or neck line. You did say 81 inches total but I don't know how to break that down. Thank you !!! Love your content.
Very confusing. Sometimes you add the seam allowance outside the pattern and sometimes within the pattern . I slowed the video and could not determine exactly where to add allowance because it looks like you add it in different places ( outside the pattern and sometimes in). Pleas clarify. Thank you. Seam allowance depend on my choice , so what seam tripe sewing for what alliance???
She explains this at around marker 5:50. She adds 3/8" to the shoulder seam, not to the front neckline, keyhole, or front armhole. She then adds 3/8" to the side seam opposite the fold as well as 3/8" allowance to the bottom of the dress. I think the dress now requires at least 1 pocket and she adds 1/2" to the top and 3/8" to the sides and bottom for folding under before sewing to the front panel. It's easier to cut 2 pieces for each pocket and with rt. sides together sew around the pocket leaving a 2" hole at the bottom for turning it back to the rt. side. Then your pocket is lined. This time sew it down to the front but only on on 3 sides of the pocket, leaving the top open. Be sure to catch the opening at the bottom that you left for turning! Have fun!
Hi, Stephanie! For this video the goal was to provide a quick and easy option of making a dress for charity that everyone could participate in, therefore I made this one size little dress pattern instead of drafting it. You can go back to the bodice block video and transform the bodice block into this A-line dress, I have a video on how to make any top into a dress.
I have kitty fabric to make a dress for my Granddaughter, I think I have enough to make an extra for the Dress a Girl. Question? How wide do you cut your bias tape please?
Hi, I have a question when you drafted your dartless bodice how did you find the same value of the shoulders I did the same job and I fond them different and I have no idea how to fix this problem lovely
Sarah, If you go on the website Dress A Girl there’s a ambassador tab that you can click on. If you click on International Ambassador’s it will list three in Canada with their contact info. I emailed the one in Ontario it’s closest to me.
Wow! Awesome idea! Sewing to help non-profits is an excellent idea! Instead of sewing a toile to discover what is needed to adapt a pattern to himself/herself and throwing it in the trash, a person can sew a garment and give it to a non-profit after using it to know how to fit the pattern to self. I wish that non-profits could give sewing classes.
This works if you are a confident and competent sewer and you are just using it for general size and fit because any donations should be with high quality fabrics and sewn to the best of your ability. If you wouldn't wear it yourself then it shouldn't be donated. Less experienced sewers will still probably need to make muslins first ( speaking in general and not just for this project as I feel you are also ). Each non-profit organisation will have information on their websites about the requirements for what is being donated plus various links to get you started, which sometimes will be links to sewing classes, generally online ones. In this case it is dresses for girls around the world aged 1 to 14 years old that are required and this video of Alissa's gives you all the information needed, a pattern for a size 3 dress, a sewing tutorial for making it ( so it IS essentially a sewing class ) and links to many other RU-vidrs that are also sharing patterns and tutorials. Face to face sewing lessons are awesome for those who don't do so well with online classes and for most people their local community college or sewing dealers will run classes. I hope this is of some help.
@@oodles_of_noodles. , our local thrift store has one requirement: drop clean things off at the backdoor during intake hours. They take in all kinds of things: books, tableware, clothes, etc.
I would like to participate, could you tell me how I can get the labels? Also I went on the websight you gave us, I saw so many darling little girls in the pretty little dresses. But I didnt see any of the labels on ANY of their dresses.
Labels right here - LABELS - www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/labels-for-dresses. The labels are pink/purple so it is hard to see them in the pictures, but If you look - you can find them.
The labels now have a white background with pink lettering and dress, so may be hard to see. Also, sometimes the photos are taken before the label is attached, but it is an important part of the project.
I clicked on the link in the description box and it looks like you can either find and Ambassador in your area if there is one or create your own group. www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/hostanevent.htm
You can take a look at international ambassadors here (scroll down and you will see it say "international ambassadors" - www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/faqs
