If you're a college sports fan, you may be familiar with redshirting. It's the practice of keeping athletes out of competition so they can improve their skills and extend their playing eligibility.
These days it's also a term used when the start of kindergarten is delayed a year. More parents are considering holding their children back a year until they're more mature.
Parents often ask themselves whether their kids are ready for kindergarten when the time comes to make that big transition.

We homeschool and my third child was the first child I started off homeschooling from the beginning with. My older 2 sons went to public school in the beginning, the oldest until 3rd, and my second son just kindergarten. My first son wasn't ready, but I didn't know any better back then and put him in anyway. My daughter was ready to learn to write at 2-3 and she still loves learning, where as my 4th child, a boy, wasn't ready for K-4 until he was 5. He will be 6 soon and we will be doing K-5 this coming year to get him more used to writing, reading and to learn about money, telling time, etc... things he didn't learn this year . Every child is different and I definitely see the benefit of waiting another year if needed.

My son was a little speech delayed so at 3 my son was able to take advantage for free in our towns pre pre school program. He is september 11th. I realized by 4 I really didn’t want him to be the youngest in the grade only missing the following year by 3 weeks. It was a 2 year uphill battle to keep him behind from 6 counselors and my wife. Luckily she jumped on board durring our last zoom call with the counselors before going to first grade. He is THRIVING this year in kindergarden. My youngest son is September 1 he just turned 3 and is in a fantastic preschool. I have the same plans on keeping him until 6 to start kindergarten as well. My daughter is 4 and born in June like me. I always felt young for my grade even though I was a big kid. I don’t think it’s as necessary to keep girls behind if you don’t absolutely feel like they are ready.

ANY ONE WHO WOULD SUBJECT THEIR CHILDREN TO THE WOLVES OF TODAY SCHOOL SYSTEM NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR CHILD ABUSE.

Since the curriculum in kindergarten is 1st grade material, it is wise to be very careful to delay entry into school rather than having the child experience failure.

Exactly i just made that mistake.. we went straight into 1st grade.. because kindergarten isn't mandatory in our state..1st grade us now second grade work.. kindergarten is 1st grade work.. so we are putting our son in kindergarten now..

It is the parents job to raise and educate. People need to stop relying on others to do their job for them. The youth are suffering but yet parents keep making the same mistakes.

School isn't for kids anymore that's why homeschooled all 3 of my boys 2 have graduated with honors and my youngest will be graduating next year. If you keep holding these kids back they'll be graduating with their on kids. I was just going through my grandmother's yearbook 1939 yearbook and they have classes for Arithmetic, English, Science, history and Bible. The Bible was literally taught in schools back then. And now they put Satan clubs in schools. Welcome to Revelations. No one knows their time but God. So I would put my trust in Jesus, sincerely ask Christ into my heart so I can be born again in the Spirit and turn away from my sins and never look back. Keep your eyes on the prize and that prize is Jesus Christ !🙏🏻💜

My son was just in his year by 2 days. The other boy in his class was only a week off a full year older. I lived in a bus so thought he should go to school to fit in. MISTAKE. He got bullied for being the youngest AND our perceived life style.

Development fir one child is way different than Development for another child......from experience the youngest when I was in high school did better than the oldest

I totally agree with this especially in today's world I think there should be stronger laws to the vetting of teachers before they are allowed in the in the classroom.......

It is good for the child to be ready for school, Delaying age is good cuz I did all of mine and it worked to there benefit and the teachers were not getting paid just to baby sit my kids. They think they should know everything before they get there anyway. And this was during the 80's I see nothing has changed, Parents are still suppose to teach there kids so the teachers just baby sit them.

Hold kids back and they develop an inferiority complex, it’s like telling them they’re stupid because they don’t work hard at things they don’t care about.. why should they have to watch their peers move on and feel trapped? Horrible system, horrible idea, horrible parenting.

I used to watch CBN as a Catholic, for the news. I'm a recovering Catholic now. I continue watching now, and sometimes my comments are brutal, because the claims made, can't REMOTELY be proved. THIS was a straight up report that talks about the REAL world, and how it affects everyone. I don't have to buy in to an invisible spirit in the sky, to understand the story. Good work.
