OMG!!! These gadgets made me laugh soooo hard... I can't.... Hahaha (I'm a Mexican in Mexico) seems like they are selling u napkin holders as "taco gadgets“.. Hahaha
@@vinstinct I get what you're trying to say with the quotes, but food changes over time, and I don't think crunchy tacos are any less tacos than classic tacos, just because they're a newer concept. Plenty of foods have regional variations, and that's something to be celebrated, not derided.
@@danielleanderson6371 Oh i have nothing against them at all. I grew up with these and still like them. I'm all about food changing and evolving over time. I'm not a food gatekeeper, and food doesn't need to be "authentic" to be good.
The terrific time for testing the taco tamer is to be taped on Taco Tuesdays for the test-drive! Tilting the taco tamer is terrific for taking in the taco in the taco tamer. Thanks for taking your time to test the taco tamer today! Toodles!
@@ObsidiaBlack1 What a terrible time to tear down tacos! Taco time is typically taco Tuesdays to taste tacos. Totally tasteless to touch tacos other than taco Tuesdays!
That second item, I have. Use pre made taco shells, put the meat in and bake at 350 about 5-6 mins. Perfectly crunchy and they fine fall apart as easily you can take it straight out of the oven, add toppings and serve still in the holder. I usually put them on a sheet of foil before putting in the oven. Easy clean up after eating.
@@elementalist1984 if u add to the bottom of a hard shell it acts like glue holding it all together. With that said will try urs might b good in a soft shell.
It's always interesting to watch you take an initial bite of anything you are preparing. You really "go for it" and take a HUGE bite. I'm glad you're not shy or apprehensive. Enjoy!
I have those metal taco holders, a fantastic tool for the kitchen. I use it for more than just tacos but put hot dog buns/rolls on them to toast inside and outside since metal heats up in toaster oven, use to serve hot dogs obviously, quesadilla racks and other random occurrences in presentation or meal prep.
I have the taco holders and they work well. The flat bottom shell maker is too slow and pre-made shells are too cheap to fool with those. IMHO, the taco tamer is a joke and just something else to clean. Over 60 years of making and eating tacos has convinced me that tacos are best when the salsa is running down your arm! LOL!
The taco tamer cracked me up! I'm considering getting a set for my adult son. I'd act like it is seriously life changing just to see his reaction. 😂 Another great video James!
I have a hamalton beach rectangular frier with basket. I'm betting I could get 3 or 4 of those in that basket at once and fry the lot at the same time without all the maneuvering it around in a pot. the frame would be enough for me to make consistent taco shells.
Around @9:30 this was starting to sound like a Seinfeld episode with the taco tamer using the taco tipping technique which requires more of "tilt" the than "tip"
Regarding the price of the first item, given you're literally putting the metal into hot oil, heat safe metal isn't exactly cheap. Not like you can use dollar tree cooling rack chrome. Also what I do to avoid the overfilling issue with tacos is just mix up my fillings together and scoop it in. Works for me.
I've been to a couple of restaurants that did actually serve tacos in these holders, one was a local place nearby a tourist area, and the other was a national chain. Ultimately, both places were more upscale, but I do appreciate the functionality.
I feel like you were being extremely generous to the Taco Tamer. That thing looked every bit as silly and ridiculous as that burrito holder thing from a while back.
I hate it when I buy a taco or a burrito and the man at the counter, who is a burrito expert, doesn't tell me I'm reaching maximum burrito capacity and half the shit spills out. You think I want a messy burrito? No one wants a messy burrito.
Oh hey I used to be one of those people! We try not to tell people what they can or can not eat. I'm sure most people would appreciate the warning, but there are a few who'd get mad, and it's never our goal to cause a scene. If you're worried about capacity you can always ask the person to warn you when things are getting full, and if they're not too new they'd probably have a good idea of what that looks like.
James just seems like a pleasant person and, even though I don't like most of the products he reviews (though I've actually bought quite a few based on his recommendation), he's a genuinely likeable dude so I always look forward to new videos.
@@konversion 100% my favorite video of his is when he reviewed the purple mattress, that video convinced me to by a purple mattress the best sleeping I have ever had, not to mention my previous bed threw my back out
Item one...Mi Taco Stand works great in the air fryer. Instead of frying in a pan of oil, you brush a little oil on both sides, put in the holder and then in the air fryer... 5min was perfect as far as crunchiness. I prefer them a bit softer so I'm thinking 3min.
Someone gifted me a set of taco holders that are shaped like saguaro cactus but they don't hold the wide bottom ones either. Maybe because the wide bottom is supposed to stand up on it's own? I did see the Tricerataco holder and thought it was cute. The fryer holder wouldn't be practical if you had a large gathering. The metal holder for filling is probably the most practical. Thank you for the review.
Cheese always goes at the bottom so it melts 🙂Those holders would be better used to hold the shell when you put it in the oven deep frying takes to long
I know technically it's not a taco, if you add refried beans, but I always add a layer of the beans before the meat. That's what my parents always served.
If we're going by strict taco regulations then it's only a taco if it's meat, raw onion, and cilantro only on a soft corn tortilla, but those regulations are bogus and cilantro tastes awful. You eat tacos the way that makes you the happiest.
I also went back and watched your 'taco toaster' review ~2 years ago. Could you tell us what that bit/tall black appliance is that's next to your kitchen sink? (some details? make/model... was is in one of your reviews?)
Would've been nice to see the Mi Taco Stand used in an oven or air fryer. Does the packaging say anything about oven use? I'd think people being a little more health conscious would try to use it that way.
Premade taco shells are dirt cheap, so I really wouldn't bother making my own from fresh tortillas. I have a set of taco holders, but plastic ones, and they are great. They also work great for holding, prepping and serving hotdogs.
You can by a much larger amount of shells that are not pre-fried for less per-shell. Also freshly fried shells are far superior. This item was expensive. Definitely can find cheeper products.
@@bostonrailfan2427 considering that I'm 65 and live alone, and only make tacos a few times per year, by the time it would pay for itself I will be long dead and turned to dust. 😋
The point of the flat bottom "stand & stuff" taco shell is that is stays standing so stands aren't needed. I use this sick invention called a plate. Stand & stuff stands up on it & if anything falls out, bcuz I'm eating over said plate, it catches the mess.🤣. Add the fact plates work with more than just tacos & man, the inventor of plates is a legend. 🤓😉😂. Good review tho. Enjoyed it & the fact it allowed me to make that sarcastic joke.
Have all the dinosaur taco holders, strictly a novelty but our family and friends love them. Will break them out for any new dinosaur movie including the new Jurrasic Park.
If you go to Taco Bell maybe try leaving the taco in the wrapper and placing it into the Taco Tamer? Or fold the ends of your Tortillas to stop leakage? I like the idea but maybe it should be made twice the length it is, to hold a taco proper like? Makes sense to me but who am I? A Freaking Review fan that's what! 😊
@Freakin’ Reviews Hey there! How long do you have to wait between frying tacos to let the metal cool enough to use again for the flat bottom frame? Would that affect the efficiency of more than one person eating more than one taco at one sitting?
Taco tamer will end up being more trouble than they are worth! You need to remember to take them in to clean and then remember to put them back in the car afterwards! I can see that being constantly forgotten! It’s a no, too much trouble.
My favorite taco gadget, is the Bowl, you throw everything in it mix it all up and boom taco by the spoonful and no mess, I would try that taco stand one if they had a way to create a lip on one of the ends of the taco so it had an edge to prevent the filling from falling out.
I bought the orange taco slider holders and used them for a month and like all "as seen on tv" items, I stopped using them and sold them at a garage sale.
I am very tempted to pay the stupid shipping prices to get some of those. As someone with essential tremors, tacos can be a very messy and frustrating ordeal!
The taco holder set wonder if u could use vertical and use as a jalapenos popper holder for the grill. Like lay it down like normal load with jalapenos then stack another taco holder on top then stand vertical on grill. And a review involving making/eating tacos yea there no losing in the video
Can you do a sleep mask review? I was looking for a good one and you were the only one I would trust but noticed you didn't have one. You can do different brands, front, back and side sleeping. All sorts of goodies.
I shouldn't be surprised that the Taco holders can't hold tacos specifically created to hold themselves up, but I suppose it's disappointing for the gadgets that are designed more for mess-free eating. What I do is just eat a Taco over another Taco so anything that falls just gets eaten with the next Taco 👍🏼
Everyone has a technique. I assume yours is a presentation thing? Or is it to bide time in the hopes that you'll finish the taco before the salsa has time to run down and compromise the integrity of the shell? Either way, I think it largely depends on the texture of the salsa. Something really chunky like a pico de gallo could realistically go anywhere, but I can see a thinner sauce needing that sort of elevation.
Let the man eat his tacos the way he likes them! Besides, he had to eat a bunch of tacos for the review, and he can't be squandering calories on sour cream.
I’m wondering how soon you can put another shell in the taco stand because it be pretty hot from the oil. So if you want to do multiple for a family you might need to buy like 8??
Anyone else noticing the little sighs he does (almost sounding exasperated) after many of his sentences? Once I realized it, I couldn’t unhear it and it’s in every video.
