I remember purchasing a lead acid battery from Sears for a car. The battery was bone dry. NO LIQUID IN IT! The store upon sales added the electrolyte. Long term storage (time from manufacture to in use) may have been months if made over seas an shipped by over the ocean. The point of sale or the ware house that gets the battery completes the last step in manufacturing.

You space the batteries for cooling not for expansion. The rate of expansion (metals 10^-6 and plastic 10^-5 inch/(inch * F) is extremely small and plastic yields and creeps so the expansion Extruded aluminum heat sinks fins are spaced for natural convection cooling. You space the batteries so that air can potentially circulate around it , now why do you that? because you don't want the battery to get hot. When the battery gets hot one of the side effects is battery expansion.

Hi Ikenna, is there need for equalization when all the individual cells are reading exact the same voltage and the specific gravity is also at the same reading in all cells.?
