You know I never thought about the music, thanks for the tip. I used to use that whenever climbing Ranks in Mobas. it's easier to avoid getting angry whenever you're not being motivated to drastic action which is what epic soundtracks tend to make you feel like doing, but since Sea of Thieves is usually such a slow paced game, with occasional high speed moments I never thought about it in the same light as I did a moba. I've never earnestly tried hourglass beyond tipping my toes in the water to see whether I liked the pvp meta but being solo that didn't go well x3 If it works out I'll be sure to try and do something to thank you for the help. who knows how long that'll take though lol.

Love it, great advice. Some additional great advice is: you WILL lose, a lot, and that’s okay. Have fun and stay relaxed, having a good time let’s you learn, getting mad blocks everything out. Stay focused while losing, what could you do better, what did the enemy do that worked well? And ALWAYS give a GG, don’t be the salt in the sea. Much love Phuzzy!

One suggestion I have, if you’re running sloop hourglass is find someone you can play with regularly. I was horrible at naval and tdm before season 8 started. My friend and I even though we kept losing badly in the beginning started learning something from each match. We began to improve and then figured out what each of us were good at. He was good at helm and boarding and I was good on canons. We kept at it, talking about what we did well and what we could improve. After a month we were winning on a regular basis and having more fun. This not only worked out well for hourglass, it translates well to PVE as we were no longer running scared every time we saw a ship on the horizon. It has most definitely helped with obtaining Chests of Fortune this season where we now go for steals with confidence.

I barely touched hourglass because it feels more like being in an arena than being on the regular seas. I'd be more willing to do hourglass if we could have bigger battles. The battle strategies in hourglass are way more limited than in normal seas conditions.

Duo sloop fights are also great because the sloop is an extremely tanky ship. Don't give up if your ship gets in a bad spot! Brigs and galleons require several people on bail once only one side of the boat opens up, but a sloop can be efficiently bucketed and repaired by one person until both sides are leaking. A team who is really active about repairs can outlast some of the most extreme pressure. If you want to see this in action, look up Erin Stirling or ItzMino's sloop battles - there are a few videos of their duo rebounding from a full death spiral. To gain every edge when in tough situations, there are a few strategies you can use: (Just keep in mind these are on the sweatier side). 1. Maintain helm over mast. Being able to control your ship's angle is super important, because even if you're in a really bad spot with your mast chopped, you can keep your ship broad to broad with the opposition and match their spiral. This makes it so that the amount of holes the enemy ship can open is limited, under the threshold that a single person can maintain, and you can ideally be able to return fire. If you can kill the enemy cannoneer, or chop their mast as well, that greatly equalizes the situation. (Just remember to straighten wheel after the other boat stops moving, that way you don't overturn and lose the broadside angle). 2. Keep a long ranged weapon equipped. Blunder + sword can be forgiving for new players, but if you want to beat the more challenging fights consistently, you want to have a pistol or sniper in your loadout somewhere (ideally the latter, but you're entitled to what you like better). Since sloops have such a limited crew, getting kills has a huge impact, and your guns still work even from ship to ship distance! Really good helmsman/support players will fire potshots at the other boat's cannon line when they have no other ship management tasks to worry about, and if your shots are on point, often you'll kill the cannoneer because of the splash damage they likely took from your own ship's volley. This is also critical in defensive positions. If you are getting shot at but don't have angle, or aren't able to get on cannon and return fire due to repeated splash damage, gunshots can kill the enemy or at least require them to back off for a bit to heal, buying you a little bit of time. Coordinated crews will "doublecross" enemies by calling out shots and both firing at the same time, which is a really good way to guarantee a kill from range. This is an excellent and fairly reliable method to relieve pressure when your ship is hurting, and tip the scales a little bit. 3. Use the ship's harpoons if you're able. It's risky, but you can pull an enemy on to your ship and kill them if you're quick. Furthermore, the auto aim of the harpoon makes this more reliable than sniping, especially if you also have a blunderbuss to one tap the pirate you just yoinked over. Though, be mindful of how bad your ship is hurting and call out to your teammate when you're doing this. The last thing you want is to have a player jumping around on your deck when your ship has water up to the map table. There are many more things to be said, but I hope this puts a lot of valuable concepts on the table.

As a person level 800 in both factions, the best way to get better is to solo sloop these fights. If you just wanna hop right into the action and start progressing, solo for me was the way to go. Just remember you do not have to repair and bail moment you are hit on a sloop. But keep the water down and turn out of the fight if you get hit too much! Keep practicing pirates! You'll win your battles over time while improving! Happy sailing!

Exactly this is what I tell people. Sloops sinks incredibly slowly bailing is usually not top priority. Further more if your mast is down and you fail to catch it and aren't able to lift it fight back. Don't let them pressure you otherwise you are not going to recover.

Here is a tip that helped me. Don't aim for level 100 immediately. Aim for level 10, then 20, then 30, then 40, and so on. This way you will feel accomplished for hitting milestones instead of feeling burnt out for not being 70 levels away from your curse, after such a long grind.

My biggest tip for hourglass is to stop caring about whether you win or lose battles and instead just enjoy the fights and mess around with friends. Doing this makes the grind feel less like a grind and you just gain levels while enjoying what you're doing rather than forcing yourself to grind. There's no point in grinding for the curses if you're not enjoying it.

I personally think Galleon battles are the best for obtaining the curses. You'll come across newer galleons more than newer sloops because most people don't have 3 friends to play with so the gellons you play against are more often than not open crew. Secondly, galleon battles don't drag on forever like sloop battles do as it's a lot harder to bring yourself back if you're losing heavily.

So...my story goes as such. Ive played since launch. Ive made great friends through the game, and met great crewmates over the years. Even with that, ive mainly stayed a solo slooper. Its always great to have a crewmate to watch your back, but ive appreciated the challenge in being solo. These days, i have no choice but to play solo, for a variety of different reasons. And even since lauch, i still suck at pvp. Ive put in many hours, and with that alot of practice, but theres always someone better than you out there. It was this knowledge that led me to just not care. It was really as simple as that. Keep reminding myself, it genuinely dosnt matter, win or lose, its all about what you can learn and grow off of. As i once heard Phuzzy say, all loot is just pixels. I wish i had obtained this knowledge sooner as even i have noticed that my game play has slowly improved. Its much easier to win, when you dont really care if you do or dont. Its not an easy thing to do with general toxicity, but if you can train yourself to remain calm, and focus on your strengths as Phuzzy so kindly described, you will always win, even through defeat

There are just two things you need for pvp: 1. Always be doing something, there are so many players out there that have some sort of brainfog and dont act or think the game will play itself, if you arent shooting a cannon, be handling sails, repairing, bucketing, preparing to board. ANYTHING, you cannot win pvp if you do not act. 2. The ability to triage or prioritize what you should be doing, this is an extension of #1. Always be doing something is good, but to always be doing the RIGHT thing given the information at hand is better. See someone trying to board or is already on board? Priority. Everything else is stuff that cant easily be taught, aim, movement, game mechanics etc. That all just comes by pvping and you dont get better at it without doing it.

My suggestion to new or casual players is to cancel hourglass matchmaking when the 1 minute ‘searching for opponent’ banner pops up. Matchmaking is skill based, but from what I can tell, if you can’t find a match sometime around the 1:20 mark, the matchmaking expands to include players with higher and lower MMRs who also couldn’t find a match. So if you find yourself facing major sweats too frequently, trying my suggestion might fix it.

Something to remember in all pvp fights is there’s two ways to win (with some mandatory overlap) Naval and pvp. The guys I play with regularly will occasionally make judgement calls when the other crew is locking out our board attempts to go “hard naval” and focus on shot placement. The thing about sloops is while they’re tanky they lack deck space. It’s entirely possible to shut down bailing and reps by landing repeated shots around the stair case. When a sloop is taking heavy water even a single bit of splash can be enough to cause the bucket splash to hit the ship and cause a sink. You can also shut down attempts at raising sail and/or capstan. Also remember if you get red markers indicating a player kill trying and hit the same spot, dollars to doughnuts you hit someone trying to rez.

depending on crew size depends on how accurate this will be, but biggest tip I'd recommend is learning the 4 main roles of the ship. 1) helm: duties; maintain angle, shot calling, if you want to be helm learn when you can continue pressure even if you're under pressure, and when to pull out; practice advices: just do it, you'll make bad calls and sink early, but you'll get better. 2) main cannon(MC): duties; shoot cannons, your job is to shoot the enemy ship, prioritizing cannon line to make the other crew be unable to fire back, if you can't shoot cannons, snipe them with eor (assuming you equip it), you are the 2nd boarder if the helm calls for a double board; practice advice: anything that makes you shoot the cannon. 3) bilge: duties; keep the ship afloat, call the flex down if you can't keep the water down and repair, if you're not taking any water, shoot the enemy lower deck to make their bilge go down 1st (if possible). if you need help in order to come down to help| flex, helm, MC| note, if MC is needing to help, you're probably already sunk. practice advice; learn to grate bucket (on galleon), any for of ship vs ship combat (ghost fleet as in video is helpful), if you want to pvp, practice tanking/tank test (don't put any pressure on the enemy ship, and keep yourself afloat as long as you can, only focusing on bilge), also when repairing if possible try to repair holes opposite to where the enemy is (ie, enemy on right of your ship repair holes on left, because they'll just reopen the right side, assuming they don't blast you off of it). 4. Flex: duties; everything, if your helm gets killed, you rez them, if you can't rez, take over helm until they get back. if bilge calls for help, you're the 1st to go down, drop everything to help. on cannons you're shooting lowers for the same reason as bilge, to make the other flex have to go below and help bucket. you're the primary boarder, when boarding play your life, sacrificing yourself to anchor the enemy isn't worth it, but making them ladder guard you for 30+ seconds is, if you fully demast them, play water, if you can anchor them great if not, focus on keeping them from presuring your ship, because the less people shooting cannons the better; practice advice: practice tdm (you can most likely find people looking to tdm if you want on the official discord, or some streamers discords) all previous roles practice advice aswell. learn routes around the ships you plan to play (ie, from ammo crare to ladder on sloop) if playing on a crew smaller than galleon the roles (tend to) merge as so: bilge-->helm, so helm focuses bilge while flex, and MC focus shooting until help needed then flex comes down. MC---> flex, for sloop helm bilge so you can stay dialed into putting pressure without having to redial and obv for solo sloop you do everything.

I feel like one of the biggest parts of getting good at PvP is time and mentality, sure you can go at PvP once or twice and lose both times but sometimes you take things away from it, there are so many tools at people's disposals, at the start of season 8, I was a pirate legend at best on ground, rather unknowing- And now im pretty sweaty because I learned a lot from so many different people, other people like Phuzzy, sterling, B.S.G, or mino the list goes on.. you can learn things from even just watching content, so my TLDR, the mentality to learn and keep going will get you good with time.

I think it is important that one understands that if you want to improve one specific skill, whether in game or not, it will take its time. we humans are a species which perform by habbit, so if you want to improve yourself you need to build yourself some habbits, be that getting a bucket of water while reballing or as helm going for a snipe after you cranked that wheel as an example. it will help creating a calm environment because your memory already knows what to do so you can adapt your playstile and focus on other problems

Me and a friend duo sloop. We often have a 3-4 win streak at times. I am a god at cannons, maneuvering, and maintenance prioritization. Meanwhile, my friend is an expert border and close combat pvp er. He can board a duo sloop and take control of the ship while spawn camping (Not toxic) while I bombard the ship with cannon balls. Teamwork and Delegation can be the difference between winning and losing over and over again (What is the fun in that?). Having one person do one task while the other person does another contributing to an end goal, will result in a pretty satisyinf outcome. Also the music tip is really effective. While hourglassing, listening to piano or jazz keeps me relaxed and calm whenever I get blundered. It also might help you focus a lot more.

I got the skelly curse the other day, when season 8 dropped didnt have the time to play but now I wanted to get it, I was rusty, I am not exceptional at the game either. But with time, I got it. The most important thing for me was trying to having fun and not care a lot about losing. Some losses can be frustrating, you may think those are keeping you away from the objective. But if we focus so much to get the curses, we fail to have fun.

I'm far from great at pvp, probably in the middle mostly, but grinding a few hourglass fights solo have taught me a few things. 1) Naval is as important as being able to pvp, if you are good at one, and the opponent outclasses you in the other, the fight may not go well, so as said, doing world events to practice naval helps. 2) Learning to tank bilge can win fights. I've had fights where mast is down and every hole that can be there is there. being able to bilge and repair between a shot here and there against the opponent can swing momentum in a large way. So getting bilge practice is always helpful. 3) Knowing when and how to keep pressure. As above, if a ship is sitting and having to repair or even anchored, if your ship isn't immediately sinking, apply cannon pressure between your own buckets or repairs, or if you're more pvp, and your ship isn't actively sinking, then when you know they are forced to repair, shot over and distract them at the least, making time between repairs or buckets even a fraction of a second longer can be a deciding factor. 4) Anti-tilt/when to take a break. If you're unseasoned with pvp, or in general just come up in a losing streak, that's ok. When you hit a losing streak, you can take a step back, log out for an hour or so, let your mind relax before trying again. As Phuzzy said with music and being hyped up, that can distract you and keep you from your end goal or delay reactions. This also applies to dealing with toxic players, as much as you want to be upset, just remember, they most likely have done what you're doing and are toxic to make themselves feel better, but if you don't react, then it hurts them. 5) Honestly, watch other people play. If you watch guides and practice what fits your style, that always helps. On the flip side, if you watch what your opponent does, you can see patterns they use and play around that to try and get the upper hand. 6) Play the game to have fun. If pvp isn't your thing, then don't try to actively grind the curses. Instead think of ways to try hourglass out, maybe one or 2 battles a session, or be on defense while doing mid tier voyages/world events. That helps lessen the impact of doing something you don't like. When I started solo hourglass, I sold my wins every time i only had 1, and slowly worked up, to now I try to get a streak, sell and lower and repeat.

@AntiSora2
@AntiSora2 Месяц назад
@lynic-0091 it's also referred to as turtling, but essentially you're able to repair and bilge out water in such a way that the other crew mates can continue to fight without having to send a second person below deck and lose firing power.

My advice has always been to figure out what you're doing wrong. Be specific and dont blame the other crew for being "too good." Figure out what was the point of no return and what mistake led to it. What could you have done differently that would have kept your boat floating for anpther 2 minutes? If it's unclear, then tecord your fights and watch them back afterwards. Or if you have a crewmate, talk it over with them every time you sink. Figure out what you guys would have wanted to do better and where everything went wrong. Then make a mental note and try to avoid making those mistales in future. Don't focus on the level 100 goals. Its just a cosmetic. Focus on making these tiny incremental improvements and learning from your msitakes every time. Atttiude is everything.

as a day 1 player with both curses I agree on the tip with the music. Don't get me wrong, the tracks are awesome! But they also pump me full of adrelenine what can cauce me to get to pumped up. Meaning I am not calm anymore and can't think straight. I always turn it off now. Another tip I do.. take a break. When in a loosing streak it can worn you down, depress you or even make you really pissed off. So when it gets to mush, don't be afraid to take a break and go back into next time.

As a cannoner use the default cannons, might not be the most appealing but makes it way easier to aim. Another tip is to use the rings on the cannons to align with the ship to make out how high or low you have to aim.

Some tips I can give new players: - Remember that it is a game at the end of the day, if you're feeling anxious or angry and generally not having a good time take a break, go outside, come back refreshed - After losing or winning, look back and think what you or the enemy did that was awesome/bad. Try to replicate the good and drop the bad. - Be friendly to your opponent. You'd be surprised how many new pirate pals you can make just by being friendly. Sometimes I get my ass kicked but its more wholesome when I throw out a compliment and they don't expect it. - Experiment with weapons, cannonballs, sailing tactics etc - Play a mix of adventure PvE & PvP. Sometimes its good to take a break from constant PvP and take it easy and so some PvE stuff to unwind - Cannons and sailing are 90% of PvP, if you learn to lead your shots and adjust each missed cannonball, while simultaneously rotating your ship around the enemy and monitoring their damage vs yours, you've already won. Good luck and have fun!

Honestly when I was grinding for both curses rather than looking at level 100 as a goal I just set a different goal for each day for example on weekdays I’d try 3 levels a day and try get 5 levels on weekends and it felt like I had the curse in no time. If your not the best at PVP just try get 1 level a day and then you’ll have the curse in 100 days or less, so long as you keep at it you’ll get it eventually you just need patience.

I would like to say that duo is one of the ideal ways to play pvp hourglass but the hard part is that since it’s like that there are ALOT of sweaty players that play duo. Solo can be fun but it is less then ideal at times you can just sink because the other player got lucky and solos is better for players who are good at tdm. Galleon is good but you need your team to all the the exact right things at the moment needed causing battles where it can be a really easy fight if the other galleon is bad but it can also mean you can get completely rolled at times since there some galleon with very good player. Brig is the most fun in my opinion it hasn’t got a ridiculous amount of sweats but it still does have them so brig can be fun the only tough thing about it is that the brig is a glass cannon so when your in a bad spot it’s really hard to get back on you feet if the other crew is confident

I'm almost 190 in Reapers Bones the best advice I have given everyone who wants the curse is don't sweat the losses, use what your comfortable with if you want to use sword, use the sword. If you want to double gun, double gun. Another tip I can give is like the video said practice but another big thing is get a good crew if you aren't that good at PvP you may be better at maintaining the ship have people that make up for what you lack. But I just should tell you the biggest tip, don't bog yourself down if you lose, it happens you know but just keep going set goals for the day if it helps.

I only started hourglass in season 9 because I was really bad at it and just a dislike for pvp but I only solo, just a bit ive learned that might help or apply. Pressure is king. Try to always have chain shots if you're on a cannon, once you're hitting your shots and feel confident take out that mast (3 cannon balls can also take out the sloop mast.) Also steering can be hard to know what to do or how to react so keep cannon angle on them as much as you can and keep applying pressure! Hard to relate to much with the video except with music, I listen to a lot of lowfi music while I fight. Its great coffee shop vibes while waiting for a match and I dont get as nervous when coming up from the water anymore lol

Comunication is vastly underated And im not only talking about calling out boarders Little things like angle/half sails or coordinating everybody for a quick anchor turn can set you up for success Also as silly as it sounds, make sure your bilge/ crew is doing alright before you jump into action! i´ve seen a lot of great players sink, because they went for a board or ignored the pleas of their bilge for buckets A simple "you guys fine if i go for a board?" can go a LONG way
@CptDoge
@CptDoge Год назад
Ah yes, the classic 'main cannons got 1balled, bilge/helm are 2 buckets from sinking, and the flex calling out he is going for a board... 2 seconds after they shot out of the cannon'. Boarding plays can be strong, but going at the wrong time will sink you faster than the enemy.

Analyse your mistakes and correct them, learn and keep to fundamental techniques within your role on the sloop (applies to brigantine and galleon as well), and communicate to your teammate. Keep practicing these and you will improve, just like I am currently, and I’m only level 34 in hourglass.

Ive played this game for like 3yrs in total but i havent played for like 3 weeks cos of how bad i sucked at pvp but I recently decided to give the game another chance and i tried getting better on my own and im actually a million times better than i was I mainly practised my cannons on ghost ships and on those sea forts with the athena veil mission and with cannon practise done i moved to the good ol 1v1 player combat... I died A LOT but i slowly adjusted to a higher sense and i was able to to actually start killing people after dying 30+ times against other crews I decided to go into my first hg game after nearly 4 weeks of not touching the mode and i managed to get a 10 solo streak on my own and i was honestly happy with myself and with my confidence restored im looking foward to getting both the curses im already lvl 50 in SOF after a day of playing😭

I mean tbh i enjoyed pvp when sot was new but its just become too sweety and unfun for me and if it wasnt for the tall tails and the fact iv been a day one player i probs would have given up after subjecting myself to the hell that is hour glass grind. Think what people fail to realise is some of us have a life outside of the game and cant spend 2k hours "getting good" and besides sot pvp isnt really that fun even when you are good at it.

Similar to the amped music leading to confused thoughts dont be afraid to just step away for a minute to cool off if youre getting frustrated. maintaining a clear cohesive thought process helps alot when having to multitask in these fights and if youre frustrated or upset the call you make may not always be the proper call for the situation. For my console brothers you want to focus more on naval combat than hand to hand TDM because the PC players can do some crazy stuff when it comes to TDM, but in boat to boat combat, it is more even. Also don’t cover your deck in crates because the button to switch weapons is the same to open crates

Best way to Brig PvP is have one person (probably the helmsman) make all the tactical decisions. When to board, when to drop anchor, when to repair, and make them do the call oouts: "boarder", "bail water", "put out fire" etc. The key thing to brig/gally battles is clear communication and having a competent commander who can think a little ahead.
