Actual wardrobe stylists are few and far between around here (New England), so while I was working with agency level models, I was still relying on their best judgment for what clothes to bring (which was often hit or miss). I'm terrified of attempting to do my own styling, and I'm wondering if a better compromise would be to shop with the model, or maybe just direct them more clearly about the look I want to bring to the work and reimburse them for any wardrobe purchased specifically for the set.

Stylizing has mostly been an after thought. I've been working to add more stylizing to my work and even reached out to a stylist at one point to no avail. So, I suppose another role I need to improve upon is stylizing. I've noticed more and more in your work and others that it really does make a significant difference. Thanks for the video and tutorials.

Because I don’t have many models I’m in contact with now I ask for pictures of their wardrobe and outfits. Maybe ask if they have so and so outfits or similar. Then I either pick the photo spot based on their wardrobe so it goes good together, or I’ll try to get them to borrow some of their girlfriends. My main issue now is makeup. Often they have their own style that don’t match the clothing and such. Very good topic and I am definitely making more and more effort in this aspect of my photography 👌🏻

I discuss clothing choices with models before shoot, mood board and model choices, and also ideas for models on what to purchase. Colour is very important to location.

I do not stylize. I did it once with a skateboard look that I did, but the model got the clothes. I will look into getting help from local businesses

The clouds at 2:00 look a bit like noctilucent clouds, and that's cool if they are. They're quite rare to see and you'd have to be looking north during June/July maybe August and an hour or so after sunset to get that.

Yes. I do my own wardrobe. Rue 21 or Forever 21 you can get an outfit for around $20-$30. Learn the basics of women’s style. Copy a look. No money? Offer to colab with a women’s boutique to shoot some social media images for them. They’ll even style for you.

I use the Sony A73 with the Tamron 28-75mm. The soft box is extremely important to achieve the look for my photos.

No. I never style my shoot. My main style is Boudoir Photography. I work with a wide variety of clients: Size 0 - plus size, male - female, smaller cup (A-B) - Large Cup (G-FF), ... Therefor it's hard to buy those outfits, because they need to feel comfortable in it. BUT after watching this video I may need to reconsider my some things. I'll be open to it, but first I need to be sure of a few things before I do this

I always tell the models to come in simple colors. 2 or 3 complemented colors. Its like eliminating clutter from the picture.

Great video as always!I just bought the a7iii with the tamron 28-75 2.8 and i cant get the eye in focus with the eye af,it hits the eyebrow,nose ear and sometimes near the eyeball but never tack sharp,do you think its the lens or the body?Sorry for the out of topic question!

Thanks man! I've never heard of this issue with the Tamron. Double check and see if the firmware is updated for the lens.

You don't need expensive gear to produce great photos. You need: styling, good ideas, few good models and collaboration. PS won't make mediocre shot a great one.

I remember telling you that my girlfriend is a fashion stylist and one of the best. She styles the models for most of my shoots. It is one of the amazing features we offer in our shoots. She is also a concept creator and it is a game changer for sure. On instagram at textured.visions.

I can barely get anyone to show up, so I'll be damned if I'm going to buy outfits and waste money with the time when they no show. I've never heard of any local clothing place lending outfits. Must be fun to have access to models and clothes
