If you're a regular everyday golfer, you probably struggle with inconsistent ball striking - the ball goes left, right, up, down, sideways...and you made the same golf swing each time. What gives?! Well, the answer is simple, you've got to learn how to control the clubface in the golf swing. This golf tip has helped so many golfers improve their clubface control and get them hitting straighter, more consistent golf shots, and it's a whole lot more fun too.

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

Your videos are so simple and straightforward! I have worked really hard this year on making my swing more simple and your keys have really helped! Everyone sees people like Dustin Johnson with his wrists cupped at the top of the backswing...it's so difficult to do that consistently. I love your thought process here with "quiet hands"...great video!

I do love the “quiet hands” swing feel. A lot of instructors are still teaching that rolling over of the forearms/wrists/hands and that just requires too much timing and too many things can go wrong. Sure it’s powerful and great when you time one up but you’ve got to be an elite level player to do that consistently. Quiet hands is the way to go 🏌🏻‍♂️. Excellent video
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Год назад
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness. So, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then yes - we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators will naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Thanks!! Tom

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing! Here's the thing, though - it's still all perfectly within the realm of S&T. I simply do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, structured, step-by-step learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result (and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews ). The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. 4:18 I took lessons from Walker Inman @Scioto CC and J.R. Ables. Both had me flashing “Open” and flashing “Closed” my left hand (I am a ‘Flipper’). Played to a single digit because of my short game. Could not get better! Played out of the trees. Gave up for 20 years. Saw your videos. Traced back to Hogan and now Varner III…and of course Zach Johnson. I thought “maybe” about this Stack and Tilt? Grab my MP9’s, went to the range, got thru the first 3 of 5 “positions”…and I’ll be playing in the Open Qualifier in 2024 at the age of 63!!!!!!!! Could NOT BELIEVE i was carrying divots forward and left of the target at impact!!! Crazy! I’ll be grinding until the Open Qualifier and few other tournaments next year!!!! Just amazing I can virtually start the golf swing with my hands just above my belt-line inside, and absolutely EXPLODE into the ball!!!!!! Thank You!

That's AWESOME, Tim!! 💪💪 I'm very glad to learn of your dramatic improvement and renewed enthusiasm for this greatest of games!! This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of great ball striking, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everything in between, and inclusive of the best players in the world. I give all credit where it is due - including Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their empirical observations of the game's best ball strikers and all their subsequent chalkboard number-crunching. I just do my best to take what they have built and convey it in my own simplified teaching style (which is fully on display in the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school - saguto.golf ). Thanks so much for your support in sharing your success with it, keep up the fantastic work, and I look forward to seeing you in the 2024 Open Championship!! Tom

This made me realize I was rolling my wrists open midway through my backswing instead of keeping my hands quiet and the face square. Instantly solved my issue with flipping and scooping at impact and chicken winging after impact instead of extending. I've seen a few instructors and they all want to give me manufactured, band aid solutions instead of addressing the root cause. Now some instructors are teaching students to bow their wrists aggressively at the top of the swing to close the club face and then yank their hips open and not use their arms at all. I mean, what are we doing here? The game isn't as hard as people want to make it out to be.

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Jim; excellent job incorporating it into your swing! The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body - the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless swings have sadly been trashed as a result. My channel's lessons and tips are not a compilation of band-aid fixes - they are all elements of the robust swing system that I teach. Now, could someone deploy one of my tips to field dress a swing wound? Absolutely. However, it will ultimately serve them far better - and will stand the test of time and pressure - if they adopt and commit to the system in its entirety, and that is precisely what the online school does in a comprehensive, step-by-step learning environment. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. I'm glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you, David, and I appreciate you sharing your improvement!! The net is a DIY job. It is approximately 7’ tall and 8’ wide. We used this video as a starting point - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--p11qs4E2T0.html - and then made some other minor PVC support structure modifications to suit our needs. We did not use PVC cement as this allows us to easily disassemble it if necessary. The netting we used is 10' x 10' golf cage impact net purchased from Amazon, and it differs from the screening material in the video. (By the way, if using a net like we did you probably won’t need the screw hooks that are mentioned in the video - bungees should suffice.) Also, I have a Real Feel 3x5 Country Club Elite® Golf Mat. I love the feel of it as well as its durability. You can visit them here - www.RealFeelGolfMats.com. If purchasing be sure to use coupon code "SAGUTOGOLF" (without the quotes and no spaces) at checkout to claim your special SagutoGolf discount on the Country Club Elite® series of mats. One of your best videos. If you're keeping the left hand fixed is your right wrist hinging at the top?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Год назад
Glad you enjoyed it, Tommy! If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride as I speak about in some recent episodes. The wrists will respond accordingly and hinge properly as if on autopilot. No manipulations or precise timing necessary. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Tom
@z-man2343
@z-man2343 Год назад
In an effort to find more distance, I started to purposely "release" the clubhead at impact, attempting to create some "pop" in my swing. However, all that led to was a noticeable decrease in consistency of both direction and ball flight, with negligible gains in distance. I no longer do this. In fact, I put very little thought in my wrists after setting them at the top. From there I simply rotate through and let them release naturally after impact.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Год назад
Well done! Those mis-taught active manipulations of the hands and wrists offer no benefit and instead have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. Keep up the great work! TS

Some of the best instructional content you’ll view on this channel. Thanks, Tom…I salute you! With your instruction, my 40 year slice has almost disappeared. GONE! And the long irons are getting KFC crispier by the day! Quick question: in order to maximise shoulder turn with my left shoulder pointing at the ball at the top of the backswing, I’ve incorporated a slight head turn to the right (a La Nicklaus) to start my swing and give my 54 year old shoulders more room to turn. It really seems to help, but I’m wary of undoing all the good work! Thoughts please and thanks again..
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Год назад
That's awesome!! Thanks for sharing your great progress!! With regard to your head, allow me to refer you to this lesson featuring Mr. Nicklaus' most important tip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E5csidjztzg.html Yes - a little bit of head tilt is fine, as long as your head remains in the "box" established at address and does not move up, down, or side to side. Also with regard to your desire to maximize shoulder turn, the stock setup for the swing that I teach prescribes having both feet flared out 10-20 degrees, with both knees flared outward as well. This facilitates a resistance-free, body-friendly 45-degree hip turn that then enables the shoulders to turn an additional 45 degrees for a full 90 degrees without any strain or tension. By the way, if you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level courses on shot shaping, power and distance, and much more. I started coming around by the middle of the back nine but can't figure out what caused the early issues with the irons. Any suggestions? I've been a member since early this year and am showing improvement. Grant in Phoenix.

Hi Grant, It's important that we set realistic expectations when taking something that is brand new to us out to the course. We are in a completely different environment and mindset when playing a round. Your range work showed you that this lesson resonates well with you; now it's just a matter of ingraining it so you can execute it on autopilot on the course. It's the difference between playing "golf" vs. "golf swing". So be patient with yourself and keep up the great work! Tom PS: By the way, have you joined the SagutoGolf Community Forum (which is included in your online school membership) yet and begun engaging with other golfers in the school? If you've not already done so it only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access in this fun and tremendously supportive community and participate in the ongoing great dialogue on a variety of swing- and game-related topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post accomplishments and specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond and banter of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I monitor the forum and participate as well. I really think you will enjoy it!!

I would love your take on Daniel Van Tonder’s swing as it relates to stack & tilt. The hip action looks like it keeps weight forward, but the head drop in the backswing looks more like stack & bend. In any event it looks like he has weight forward and a straight lead arm to control low point. Be well!

Certainly a unique motion that he has built and ingrained. I'm not sure what you would label it. He really emphasizes the "Hogan Arms" at address and definitely gets into his lead leg, though there are other "homespun" components that could only be honed through countless hours of repetition. Cheers! TS

Again the best explanation and example I’ve seen thus far,very large grip on your club,are there any advantages to this Tom.

I appreciate that, Patrick! I’m using JumboMax grips. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. They’re not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." Cheers! Tom

I'm using a Flightscope Mevo+ with the Pro Package, and I have it linked to my iPad. It also includes 6 golf courses for sim play and 17 virtual practice range options. If interested in checking out the Mevo you will find information - including discount codes - in the video description details. Thanks again for your kind words regarding my content!! Tom

When I pitch from 50yards my ball goes left. To sort this i pitch more right and it works. Using this method {like a hockey shot} I’m hitting at the flag. Now I’m trying to get this into my main swing. CHERRS Tom, your the man! 💥💃💰

Nice job, Nigel!! Keep working on gradually and incrementally building this quiet hands feeling into your full swing - you'll get there. And yes - that slap shot imagery is a good one. Cheers! Tom

Hi Tom. Thanks for this. I imagine that you initiate the backswing by just moving your left shoulder back? No hand action at all.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Год назад
Glad you enjoyed it, David! If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then yes - we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. No manipulations or precise timing necessary. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and once you've got it you'll be amazed at the quality of contact and seemingly effortless power! 💪💪 Tom

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Reginald, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Now, having said that, I purchased a new set of PXG's in the spring of 2023, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently. The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf. Once your swing produces a repeatable low point consistency is certain to follow. It's the first fundamental of this system, so yes - I preach it, I teach it, I beseech it........😎 I hope to see you soon in the online school, where you'll learn it all step-by-step in a comprehensive, structured way. Then you'll own it, and at that point you'll be able to just admire the beauty of that water rather than fearing the task of carrying it!

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf День назад
No need to binge - just apologize to the ball and get that relationship back on track!....😎 By the way, there are entire sections of my online school dedicated to diagnosing and resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. Let's get you out of the desert and into the Land of Milk and Honey....permanently!! Tom
