The employee revolt at the Northeastern supermarket chain Market Basket raises a question, especially over this Labor Day weekend: Is there a connection between workers feeling well-treated by their employers, and the bottom line? There's lots of evidence the answer is yes. Martha Teichner reports.

This is real. My uncle had a business where he tried to make employees feel like part of our family. It worked! He had many employees with 20-30 years of service.

It sounds simple and should be simple. But 90 % of companies treat their employees poorly.
@tuckerfrd1
@tuckerfrd1 5 лет назад
No Craig, 90% is high and not intentionally treated poorly. They just don't care about the individual - the employees humanity and only view workers as a collective like a tool. These bad companies view workers as less human. Good companies focus on our humanity and that reverberates in profits, hence . . . . win - win.

Herb Kelleher of Southwest Airlines put the company priorities as Employees first, customers second and shareholders third. The thought was - if employees are happy, they will insure that the customer is happy. If the customer is happy, they will return, thus making shareholders happy. Too many companies have that reversed. They put shareholders first, customers second, and employees last. I think Herb's way is right.

I worked for Walmart back in 2001. They told me I was on a team and I wasn't just an employee...I was an "associate" . We even did the Walmart cheer at the beginning of the shift. Problem was I made 6.50/hr and didn't have health insurance. I couldn't even afford to buy a six pack of beer to forget my problems for one night. My point is you can brainwash stupid people to believe anything, but at the end of the day when you've worked hard and you're still broke, you will never be happy. You go to work to make money. You give up that 40 hours of your week so you can enjoy the rest of the week with the people you love and choose to be with. If you're not making money there is no point to your job. Don't feed into the BS that your employer cares about you. You are easily replaceable, and so are they.

Modern business only cares about profit. Staff are treated as liabilities not assets. I really fear for the working life my kids are joining, zero hour and short contracts together with chronic housing shortages. We really need to go back to where we came from and put a little humanity back into the working environment.

I quit my corporate job 11 years ago and haven't looked back. I'm much more happy and I get to control my days on when i decide to work and not work. Only problem I've run into is, sometimes filling my days with something to do only because most of my friends have to go to their 9-5's. Being self employed, working when I want to work. Having all my monthly expenses covered and having money left over every month for entertainment... has been such a huge relief in my life!!! I could be making 4x what I make doing what I do now, if I were to go back to corporate world, but not having to deal with corporate politics and people who just come to work to be lazy, skirt their responsibilities and put blame on others in order to make themselves look better although at the same time, actually not offer answers or solutions to issues they're pointing out... No amount of money is worth it to me! Having my freedom, my days open to do what I wish to do and most of all, NO BOSS TO REPORT TO OR ANSWER TO!!!... so much better! Everyone should look for a type of career which gives them the freedom that they desire and enjoy!!!

Agreed. "Team Members", " Team associates", etc are typically paid lowest wages possible, offered no sovereign decision making duties at work, no advancement, no merit increases, often aren't allowed to sit even if the job would benefit from seated work (though floor management sits), are typically relegated to different bathrooms (dirtier) than lower management employees, are constantly tracked and monitored, have different personal behaviors rules than management. @@Dangic23 the Italian labor laws make it almost impossible to fire any employee plus you have to pay them well whether they work "well" or not. So there's little incentive for an Italian to go the extra mile serve the customer. And the companies don't care if you complain. Example (of many I could give you, I lived there five years): I once had to change my bank account for car rental payments. It was such a simple thing, but it took the company eight months to do that, causing me many problems. The employees I interacted with could care less. And this was one of Italy's major car rental companies. Italy has a major problem with toxic work cultures, mainly due to labor laws that "protect" the employee IMO.

Most companies only pay lip service to "our employees are our most valuable asset". TOTAL CRAP. IF that were true income inequality wouldn't be as pronounced as it is today. So yes, valued employees make better employees. Trick is that takes time, effort, sincerity, and money. All things not associated with labor relations.

I worked for American Airlines for 23 years and employees liked their jobs but hated the company. It was a constant battle between management and labor. Whenever their was something wrong it was always labors fault but when things were going good management always took credit. When business took a downturn labor took the hit in wages and benefits. When it turned around it was management bonuses and new aircraft,but the losses that labor took never come back completely.

Listen to the third word out of his mouth at 3:01 "TEAM-MEMBERS". He doesn't say "employees", "workers", "staff". He calls the people who work at Whole Foods his fellow "Team-Members". This is the key. Period. Everyone from the CEO to the bagger is a part of a team. In a team, there is no one person who is more important than another. The team functions because each member of the team works not to make the individual succeed and get ahead, but to empower others and make the TEAM succeed. Well done, sir.

You know, its funny one of my toughest jobs as a young guy was painting old houses in Massachusetts but I had a great boss and the days went fast and were believe it or not pretty fun. I also worked at an Exxon convenience store gas station right out of law school while studying for the bar. The owner was a great boss and was open to my ideas. The thing is that neither of these jobs were great per se or particularly fulfilling, but I look back on both fondly. By contrast my first law job was a miserable experience and I couldn't believe that after all I had gone through to get into law school, to graduate, and to pass the bar, that I would be treated worse in my first job as a lawyer than when I worked at McDonald's.

Just because someone has all that does not mean there qualified.. What you should be doing is treating your employees like a human and give them respect learn about them and their hobby's for example rather then act like a big boss manager etc. and push your people away because you don't relate to someone or they are not as smart as you etc. Being a people person and communication will give you better results then anything else.. Treat someone right and teach them the skills they need to succeed and they will be successful and engaged...

Some of the people at the Boulder store, are among the rudest. I've been there and cant get help, like big box hardware store. I saw no one at a counter I went by three times. When I finally see the employee, he acted like he had no time for me. As I went to walk to a go-to table in the area. A girl sets her diapered only baby on the table. She was also waiting for this employee, who had possibly been outside on a break with mommie & toddler.... Ever heard of shagalla and what it does to your intestine? (So not in the mood to eat right then, all of the sudden)... that table was away from the normal seating area, in front of a food booth. No mindful thought for public safety. Her boyfriend, was supposedly, making the food. They are not cleaned, everytime some one leaves it. Discusting and very unsanitary. 👀🤢🤮🤒💩☠👼👈

Employers today treat their employees like customers......they try to find the absolute LEAST they have to provide them in order not to lose them. Never used to be that way. The bottom line has become the ONLY important thing. In person meetings are gone and so is the camaraderie built during those. Real, effective, in-person training is gone. Now it's "watch a video" or see a Powerpoint" or training via conference call. Joke !!!

Radio Flyer is not visible in Belgian toy and garden shops. It is missing a market. At least the wagon with child seat, a scooter and the fly-on child glider should be available in local garden centers and with Colruyt Dreamland toy shop. Hire some people and show the products at the Belgian seaside, weather does not matter. Beautiful nostalgic product and lots of fun.

Can we stop fetishizing CEOs in this country please?? Americans needs unions. Period. It's the only way to guarantee workers are treated fairly. Put the terms of employment in writing.

The real question: Does a laundromat launder money?
@princessmarlena1359
@princessmarlena1359 4 года назад
IMPORTANT INFORMATION Al Capone’s did (but not literally). In fact that’s when the term “Money Laundering” came to be. Money laundering has been around as long as money itself has existed (“Money changing hands at the temple”) be it to cover the origin of how it was earned, or even as a simple tax dodge.

@@princessmarlena1359 Very Interesting. Did you know that Al Capone had a Brother James, that Was A Prohibition Enforcement Officer. Before that he was a Police Officer. This was in Nebraska. He had changed his name to Richard Hart. He had a nick name "2 gun Hart"

4:20 You got meat, pepper, meat, pepper, then you've got pepper, meat, pepper meat, and then you've got at 4:24, meat + meat. This man is a Manchurian Candidate whose training was too excessive and faulty. Choose your stooges better, SKY-NET!
