Do we finally have running water in the cabin? Well….not exactly. In lieu of running water, for the time being, we are installing a foot pump at the kitchen sink. Being able to use the water hands-free will be more convenient for doing dishes and cleaning.
Thanks for watching,
Craig & Chandra

I bet that pump was put together on a Monday or Friday lol. Trial and error, you got my luck... everything would work perfect unless I recorded it lol

Well I was having a less than stellar day, but your struggles with that foot pump provided comedic relief. I'm confident it was not humorous to you at the time, but I'm guessing that in retrospect, you too will find it amusing. Hang in there, stay on your priorities like firewood for example. When you reflect back, you will see you are living your dream!

Life’s too short not to see the humor. Things have a way of working themselves out in the end. Firewood is definitely at the top of the priority list.

I used to live in a cabin with no running water and an outhouse, it's like perpetual camping out 😊. Fun times 👍

We had a 50 gallon drum that gravity feed water to our kitchen and 3 fifty gallon drums connected to that one main drum to catch rain water I also have a water sestern design to catch rain water and gravity feed that water into a house from my grate grandfathers drawings where my grandfather built a sistern to store rainwater safely I grew up living off grid so I understand the joy of having simple things to make life easier

I started out with a gravity feed system where I collected rainwater and pumped it upstairs above the kitchen into 2 30 gallon barrels. In the winter I’d haul water with the snowmachine from the Talkeetna River. It runs real clear in the winter. Laundry day was hauling water 2 miles to keep up with the washing machine.

At least some water. For myself, I would never have moved to a place w/o enough water to do what I want including running water in the house. My wife would never have put up with anything less. Have you thought about getting a well drilled ? Different strokes for different folks ! lolol

There’s plenty of water on the property. The spring produces 3gallons per minute, we have a creek that runs year round, and we’ve installed gutters to catch rain water. The problem is storage and moving it. It’ll come. Probably in the summer but eventually we’ll have running water.

If you have an elbow & short piece of pvc that is just big enough for your hose, you could run the hose through pvc and use a whatever bracket you have on hand or could make easily to mount the pvc to the window frame (not the actual frame but the 2x4 frame). It would be stationary and you wouldn't be able to move your faucet like you're able to now but I guess it all would depend on yalls expectations of the temporary setup you're looking for. I do like the zip type method you used though, it ain't dumb if it works amd being off grid, you gotta use what's available. Great job yall! Keep these videos coming!

I have a system at our remote place where the input to the first container is screened and then it goes through 3 more containers which are FDA approved trash cans so it gets rid of what I call floaters and sinkers. Then it goes into two IBC totes. I can save about 500 gallons. I just used a RV pump and water heater.

👏👏👏...so nice to know your names, Shannon and Kurt 😊
@ouralaskahomestead
@ouralaskahomestead 10 месяцев назад
Sometimes I get called Shannon, mostly Shh-on-dra. People tend to want to spell Chandra with a S so seeing the C throws them off. My moms idea was, chandelier is with a C so that’s where the spelling vs pronunciation for my name, Chandra, comes from. Craig gets called Greg most of the time. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him called Kurt before, that’s a new one.

Probably not a well. I think the spring we found is going to supply plenty of water. We just need to get a hiding tank and a pump. I hope the babies stick around after she kicks them to the curb.
