I would place the stove centrally to distribute the heat better, f.e. vis a vis the front door.

We have a wood stove that looks exactly like yours except for the shape of the glass. We have had it for 15 years. We love it. We have a 2200 sq Ft house that it will heat to comfortable (60°) when below freezing. I only wish we had put a damper in the flue, we rely on the stove damp and it works. Good luck and warm fires.

Definitely is scary having to make a hole in your roof Yikes, Man that looked like a pain in the butt. But you were doing it alone . shall have to check out what comes next interesting to watch.

Hey for under 200 dollars you could take the battery off your drill and put it in a Dewalt 68,000 btu propane heater and have an emergency heater . Turn on your propane stove and you would be really cooking. Those kerosene heaters take a long time to warm up and smell bad. This should be a wake up call to have back ups on everything. Great video!!

The kerosene heater is the back up for the wood stove. We also have a Buddy propane heater and just recently got a Vevor Diesel heater that we’ve yet to try out.

To late now but you could run two screws into that joint on both sides about center of the pulled back the insulation and tied it back with some wire or string across its face

I put metal roof about 2” off the wall and off the floor behind our wood stove at our remote cabin. I used long screws and cut 2” copper lengths as spacers to do this. The wood never gets hot and the convection from the metal warming up pulls cold air off the floor. I would have run double wall black stove pipe inside on that high of a ceiling to keep the pipe warmer.

For the inside - We hung corrugated steel from the ceiling with wire. It hung behind the stove about three feet up on the two corner walls and was about 2 inches from the wall. The steel was 2 inches off the floor. This was great for the draft as the cool air on the floor drew up behind the corrugated steel and kept the wall cool for fire protection. You will see what we are talking about once you have your first fire in the stove.

You do know they sell 45’s don’t you? You could set the stove where you want it and adjust the stove pipe to where you want the pipe to penetrate the roof.

leave it ( the stove) where it is and just get a 90 degree elbow to angle it to where you need it to clear the 2x4's!!

Looks good! Don't forget a brace to the stove pipe so the snow load doesn't push it over. Isn't a spark arrester required on the chimney cap?
@Chris_at_Home
@Chris_at_Home 9 месяцев назад
We don’t use those in a cold climate as they plug up fast. Once the beginning of September comes around nothing will burn anyways. Also most years there is snow on the ground till the middle of April.

I’ve never seen those brackets mounted above the roof. They are always mounted below the roof. Also screws in joints because wind and earthquakes will move things.

I have a pocket knife someone gave my husband a few years back It's from flight outfitters, the flight survival knife. It was free so it works for me. :) My husband is a UPS driver and they gave it to him for free along with a bunch of other stuff because they found out he has a pilot's license. :) My husband won't carry a knife so I got it :)

Bit of a pain installing that sucker! But when you feel the heat from your first fires it will have been all worth it! We’ve already had to light our wood stove a few times.Nothing like it to take the chill off! Take care!

its good your getting the wood stove ready you need it the weather is changing just put some iron behind it like roof iron lots people do that Also you might need a anchor to the ridge if you have alot of snow its usually a piece of bar attached to it up top as the snow can push it over cool end of it looked good
@texgem
@texgem 9 месяцев назад
Don't you need to anchor pipe with wires from the ridge and the metal part that covers the pipe when the snow slides and the pipe doesn't bend.

hi you should put a screen inside ,the top pipe so no birds go in.

I’ve lived in Alaska almost 45 years and have never had a bird go in my stove pipe. We have three of wood stoves in different buildings. Even the two buildings at our off road place that only has a fire when we are there has no bird problems.

A thru the wall chimney kit is easier to install and maintain..no roof penetration😊
@Chris_at_Home
@Chris_at_Home 9 месяцев назад
I’ve seen people do that here in Alaska and when it gets down to -20F the pipe gets cold and moisture in the smoke starts condensing making a mess. This even happens using metalbestos insulated pipe. I know a couple people this happened to on homes professional builders built. These were even in wood enclosures. The people just ended up moving the pipe inside and going out the roof.

I was telling my wife you needed a plumb bob and you pulled one out 😅. My pocket knife of choice is a cheap 4" folding, that way I can abuse it or lose it and not cry 😊 but I do have to sharpen often but no big deal. Good job on the stove install 👍. We'll be firing ours up soon as it's getting pretty chilly!

Don't for to put hardware cloth around the outside of the chimney cap, you don't want any uninvited guests.
