Always looking for the next airplane. So true! After flying GA for 37 years I’m in my airplane Nr. 15. Cirrus is a great product, the market doesn’t lie. As a European I would opt for a Diamond DA-62 in this class, if I could spend this amount of money 💰 😉

@@hardyad2102 Good points! On the other hand you have to plan on a top overhaul of the Continental in between the TBO. Airway charges in Europe are about 60€ for a DA-62 per flight hour. Is this a problem for someone who spent well north of 1 Mio. € for a DA-62? I’m not shure… And the safety-record of the DA-62 is outstanding.

When watching "owner review" videos like this, I filter through the lens of "Role of Pilot-in-Command". Your perspectives are great (primarily focusing on knowns and safety) and you're both really keeping a tight rein on what you can control. Continued success, and thanks for promoting GA well.

From a fellow Cirrus owner, good job on the video. Glad to see you have gotten rid of all the commercials from your early videos, much more enjoyable to watch. Missing: How many hours did you both fly last year to relate the maintenance costs per hour? #flysafe!

As a 1-year G3 owner, agree with great Cirrus support for organized training, certified maintenance, and COPA membership as a step above anything I have experienced before in my 30- year GA time. Love this airplane as my missions are FL to IL and WI locations. Thanks for your information. Biggest selling point for me is CAPS, fixed gear, A/C and glass panel with envelope protection of Avidyne DFC90. Had Mooney M20E and C-182...the Cirrus is a 21st century hybrid of both planes that doesn’t corrode in FL environment. Love the plane!
@FamilyManMoving
@FamilyManMoving Год назад
How does the IL/WI to FL go for you, on average? Do you often have to work around weather, or cancel/reschedule? Winter/summer differences? We'd be flying from the DC area to FL (Sarasota), so any thoughts on your experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thinking about buying a SR22T G6 and yes, a Diamond DA 62. Your cost after a year fits into what I thought it would be. I would have to stretch for the DA 62 financially but the 5th seat, the ability to fly longer range than the Cirrus, the large windows my family just loved during a DA 62 demonstration flight, the extra seat comfort , and the economics of jet fuel, makes us want to buy the DA62 but ….financially, for me, is bothering me. Yes, I am lucky to be in a dilemma between two great aircraft: SR22T G6 or the Diamond DA62, wow am I grateful and lucky! Thanks for your timely input.

I acquired my PPL in 1981 and rented for 20 years, starting with 172s and 182s and then into Mooney 231s. When I was finally able to buy an airplane, I wanted 6 seats and some decent cargo capacity. I purchased a 1981 Piper Saratoga and it served me and my family well for 20 years. A (former) business partner had a Cirrus and it’s clear that Cirrus makes an excellent product but it’s not my cup of tea. When I was able to move up in 2020, the Vision Jet was out but, again, it didn’t fit my missions (mostly range and useful load, flush potty for my wife). I wound up in a 1980 Cessna Conquest II. When (if) I’m able to move up, it will be something like a Phenom 300E or Pilatus PC24. Range is kind of the ultimate deciding factor for me. I do know that Cirrus pilots love their airplanes and I’m happy for them and for the two of you. I don’t think Cirrus will make an airplane that will fit my needs and wants.

This was a welcomed spin on your videos where you brought the doctor into the conversation. It was thoughtful and informative because sometimes partnerships can turn toxic but you both seems to get along well and are upfront and honest with each other along with just being friends and bringing two different life aspects to this endeavor. Keep doing your thing and your connection which benefits us viewers. I’m still trying to figure out what A.M.E stands for 😂 What if any are the tax advantages to having this aircraft and using it especially for business reasons or write offs for depreciation, maintenance etc?

Yes, I wanted to know how the hours were split up. The Doc needed to do his training, and both have flights for business, but beyond that, was it first come first serve, or were you trading months or were you reserving 1st and 3rd weeks of the month vs 2nd and 4th weeks of the month, for personal use of the plane? Was it the one with fewer hours got the choice of the next personal flight first?
@softreset82

The cost question is interesting, you mention the CMX package. Curious what the offset was on the package. In other words, how much was the CMX package versus how much would have been out of pocket without the package. That to me is the "cost of ownership." If you paid $25,000 (arbitrary number) on the front end for the coverage, that should be factored into that conversation here.

G6 platinum, had a nose wheel bearing lock preventing the wheel from free castering, resulting in a dual brake overtemp trying to get it stopped before going off the side of the taxiway. Apparently it’s a common issue currently being investigated by the FAA

Hey guys, t's really cool to see your experience with a brand new, highly capable airplane. By contrast, although I'm an airline guy like you, my "jet" is a 1942 biplane. Like the Cirrus, mine is equipped with a chute, but on the Stearman, the chute is strapped to my behind! I do take some pride in owning a Boeing, just like my ride at work. Except mine has no roof and can safely fly acro. I wish you fellas a lot of continued success with your ownership experience. If you find yourself with a PDX layover (Or a business trip for the Doc) during the warmer part of the year, I've got a helmet and parachute with your names on it - drop me line.

If I were still flying, Cirrus would be at the top of my list for sure. Got my Private back in 1972, but in 1975 after completing my Commercial training (but before check ride) a Navy Doctor misdiagnosed me and ended my ability to hold a 2nd Class medical. The FAA wasn't at all interested in my ability to prove the misdiagnosis. It's haunted me ever since, but my love for GA hasn't gone away. Living in AZ, I hang out at KCGZ sometimes just to do a little plane spotting and sometimes chatting with pilots about their planes. Great video BTW loved the breakdown on costs.

The most fun job I ever had was on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday, I manned the unicom. That was back in '89-'90 during my senior year at UA, and the trailer was all we had as an office. Do they still have the EAA and Antiquer fly-in shows? Man I got to climb around on some cool planes during those shows! I don't get down there much anymore, but know it has changed significantly. Nothing but great memories out there for me. Give CGZ my best regards next time you are out there!

Was a DA62 on the radar when you purchased the SR22? I think the SR22 is a great product and the DA62 adds 30% or more to the price, but the safety of having two engines, FADEC, and Jet-A also seems to make a very good value preposition.
@dannyfittro7438
@dannyfittro7438 2 года назад
I want to know the answer to this as well.
@stonehorn4641
@stonehorn4641 2 года назад
DA62 is over half a million more, and has two engines that require regular maintenance. The SR22 has the CAPS Parachute system, which has already saved many lives. But the 62 is incredibly safe, with an immaculate record across the board. Maintenance cost on twin engines always hurts. I ran a few different twins for oil companies.
@ddelv1601
@ddelv1601 2 года назад
@@stonehorn4641 The price diffrance and the CAPs are both good points. I guess a DA42 would be a somewhat more comparable plane. Though from what I have see if you can spend the money. Jet-a and two engines trumps CAPs when it comes to safety. It would be intresting to look at the safty events each aircraft has had and determin of the outcome would have better if it was replaced with the other plane. I think it was last year a Cirrus got its self split in two, but everyone survived thanks to the CAP. A DA42 wouldn't have done so well, but I have seen the CAPs get used for engine out events more than anything.
@stonehorn4641
@stonehorn4641 2 года назад
@@ddelv1601 i flew the 42, it's a capable aircraft, but it isn't worth the extra cost over a single engine, to be honest. As long as im not flying over water, I'll take the single engine almost every time. Currently looking at a DA50, the wife keeps talking about the 62, I keep telling her I don't want a twin. Now, If I could talk her into a VisionJet.
@ddelv1601
@ddelv1601 2 года назад
@@stonehorn4641 good luck on the Vision Jet, it has to be one of the best values in general aviation right now. I'm sure it's complcating the disision process for a lot of would-be Piper m600 and TBM 940 buyer's. Though for some reason I like the M600 sls. It's more money, slower, and doesn't have the parachute but just seems like a classic. But if you can swing it go for the Vision Jet!
@bill832
@bill832 2 года назад
Two mags out in the first year - please elaborate that's a safety issue. From what I see Cirrus planes spend far more time with the A&P than a Cessna and the work is best done at a certified Cirrus Service Center. At some point the warranty expires - just about the same time the cylinders need to be replaced. And don't forget to save for the 10 year, $20,000 CAPS repack. Well done video, but you haven't convinced me to sell my Turbo 182T.

“Best piston airplane” is a very subjective judgement and depends on your missions. You can make a case for Diamonds, for the Piper M350 (pressurized, long legs, well over 200 KTAS. Each has its pros and cons, your mission and budget make the final determination.

I'd gently challenge the side-by-side cost comparison of their buddy that has a G5 Cirrus and spent $70k on mx. Even if they did that, G5 driver is still net ahead ~$250k in total acquisition cost. Sam and Ernie are correct in paying for convenience...but Cirrus isn't a charity, so those oil changes, annuals, etc. are being priced into the plane. They've just chosen to amortize the cost over the life of the loan on the a/c instead of paying out of pocket. They alluded to selling the plane in 3 years (about the time that warranty expires)...which means that they're essentially leasing it until they purchase another new Cirrus or step into another airplane. Good video, though, and I appreciate the breakdown.

How is the fuel economy? Obviously the fuel prices have been all over the place recently, but do you get good mileage relative to other aircraft?

How long did it take the Dr to get comfortable flying by his self? I had gotten my pilot license 15 years ago and haven’t flown since. I’ve been thinking about buying a plane like y’all’s.

This is a great channel! Excellent videos and as I am about to take delivery of a s 22T Xi Cirrus in 2 weeks they are also very relevant! Great to see a 121 pilot fly GA and maintain same discipline with checklists, work flow etc as he would I'm sure in the 738. Next time you all fly to Vegas come visit at KVGT! BTW: What is the brand of the O2 boom you're using?

Congratulations! It was a great experience picking up our bird👍🏽 I’d love to see it one day👌🏽 It’s the precision flight boom and O2 conserver. I’d highly recommend! Cheers!

Man, it would be a dream to own something like this. Ive been salivating at the SR22 since they released it. Sadly, the price isn't even bad, I could afford it if it was only the 400k for a used one that you can find them for, I could probably even justify it as business owner, but the maintenance costs frighten me. I definitely can't afford a brand new 22.

New is a plus, but with a fleet of planes,,,some new,,,,my favored ride was an old 182...old school IFR....back when you hand flew tight altitudes and dead on heading,,,,

Currently renting a SR22, nice G2 with updates avionics. 400+h TT, any thoughts on MEL rating and a DA-62? Eventual goal is a M600, but I just flew R seat in a phenom 100. Like you said, always something bigger and faster.

Why would your brand new plane need brakes? seems awfully premature. Was that due to heavy flight training?
@coreymcdonald7745

They said in the video that it was used for Sam’s flight training.
@samfereidouni6855

probably because of training and excessive braking..

You guys mentioned in the video that "next year" assuming 2022, you were going to be talking about some version of making (?) this plane / (?)another Cirrus available for others to fly. What was it that you meant by this? Did I misunderstand? New to your channel so might have missed it in some other video. Is this still something you're contemplating? The reason I ask is because I'm in the Phoenix area (private, instrument rated) and have been looking at options for flying better than the flight school planes. Just curious... Fred
