Speaking of descending: the numbers with the M next to it in the lower right corner of the visualizer is a depth marker. Atlantic (first song) starts at the point sunlight cannot penetrate the ocean (914M) and Missing Limbs is Challenger Deep, the deepest part of the ocean (10,924M). There are a bunch of other ocean related Easter eggs in this album.
There's a theory, that I subscribe too, that the albums are elemental based. Sundowning is AIR. Tomb is WATER. Eden is EARTH. This is supported by song titles, artwork, themes. So the next album is going to be the FIRE album.
That makes me wonder if the black liquid from the TMBTE visualizers is the passage of time when life decays and turns into oil, which would ignite a fire.
Maybe not so, because they did say it was the start of a "new chapter" and the community seems to agree that these three albums are a trilogy, which is now over with Bring Me Back To Eden. I'm here for it either way, but that does sound cool. I imagine Fire would be heavier.
MHM. Like Dark Signs, Granite, Sugar and Descending all of them have that feel😊 so many of their songs are beautiful and sad etc but those 4 in particular just give off such a sexy vibe🤭
@@alyssaj6579 fr I'd put "Like That" on that list too. I love it when Vessel does that breathy voice with those high fascettos thrown in. I mean the man takes you places right?! 😂🥴🔥
I'm just waiting for High Water at this point. Y'all are going to lose your minds. It also has one of my favorite sounds in the entire discography (which reappears at the end of The Apparition) - curious to see if you guys can pick it out 😏
I knew Descending was going to catch you off guard with the industrial trap sound. That chorus just hits home so hard. It so much reminds me of a past relationship...yes you come crawling back to me but I haven't recovered from the last go around with you. I'm still broken, weak and sinking and you come back with cheap talk like it'll be different or better and that I'll be better. Right back into the sickness!
my interpretation is that the high part with "until i let you fall ive been left no choice dont you see that" is sung by the goddess. with the second repeat you hear the voice telling that again and vessel saying at the same time in a voice layering while she speaks "why dont you just say what you wanted to say"...thats fugging deep shit
I agree. I took this song to be a conversation. The way the chorus is split in falsetto and chest voice and that call and response melody suggests two speakers going back and forth.
I’ve said before that I feel all high registers are sleep singing to vessel. It makes the music so much more interesting. If you listen to sugar as sleep singing to vessel, and then you get vessel coming in on the breakdown when the voice changes. This song it another perfect example of what I mean when I say they’re singing together. I personally think this is them singing back and forth. Quite a few songs are this way and I’m not sure if it’s true or not but the way the lyrics are written it seems that way to me 🤷🏼♀️
Yessssss, it's the same with Granite. Their songs are so goddamn dynamic. He almost sings as at least three different people; Vessel, Sleep, and given name. All of which are having these exchanges that add even more depth to their story. This is seriously some genius level shit. I don't know if he was born in hell or heaven sent but either way I'm into it.
@@Isaacclarkeftw yes, sugar was really the song that made this click for me. Sleep singing to vessel saying “though we never eat, we still know how to feed”
Just think of this...their production was top notch on a small record label ....now imagine how epic their next album will be now that they've signed to a major record label 👌🏻💯
I cannot wait for them to do Telomeres. I only recently REALLY listened to it and I'm fully and completely obsessed with how beautifully tragic it is. Tears every damn time.
I’m gonna say something potentially unpopular here: I think this album’s emotional peak is High Water, and Missing Limbs is like coming down from that. Everyone is saying the buildup is to Missing Limbs, but for me it’s the buildup to High Water and then Missing Limbs is the resolution, if that makes any sense? Idk! At any rate, y’all are headed straight into two of the best songs on this album in Telomeres and High Water (with High Water being one of my favorite ST songs), and I can’t wait for those!
Anytime i want to listen to Sleep Token I don't care what comes next but I almost ALWAYS start with Sugar, Jaws, Nazareth or Descending as an opener that sets my mood.
this reaction did not disappoint!! i just will never get over sleep token’s ability to make a song that has such deeply thought out lyrics so sultry and just UGH!
Yes, underrated song! I mentioned before a couple times that I feel like song is sleep and vessel singing together. If you listen to the voices and registers it’s kind of interesting that way. A very push pull relationship. Grab your tissues and buckle up!!
On their album booklet for TPWBYT, there are some coordinates on one of the pages that point to “Point Nemo” - also known as the most isolated place on earth. It’s more than 1,000 miles away from any civilization, and I found it offered a whole new perspective on this album for me. Vessel almost seems to be grasping for anything that can provide him sanctuary from his place of isolation. And of course all the ocean references, it all makes sense. These guys are just deep on a level I don’t think we will ever understand.
YES!!! FINALLY!!!! Ugh descending is so fucking cool, so underrated. You guys have been the absolute best when it comes to Sleep Token reactions. The amount of love and excitement yall express towards alot of peoples favorite band thay saved them❤🥰
Easily one of my all time favorites. The whole package is just so good, the melodies, die production, Vessels haunting voice. Heard it 1000 times, will listen to it another million times, it doesn't get old.
I have been waiting for ya'll to get to this one. I love every Sleep Token song but Descending and Vore are definitely my favorites. There's just something special about Descending. Right before the first bridge, there's a sound that sounds like a submarine sonar signal which is so cool and at the end it just sounds like he's descending into the depths. He's a song writing genius. No doubt he writes inspired by real emotions and things going on in his life even if they aren't exact. Sadness, pain and betrayal are real emotions no matter what story they are applied to and I'm sad that he has struggled with these things and that we can all relate to them.
Not sure if it was done on purpose but Ascensionism is song #6 on TMBTE, and Descending is song #9 on Tomb. If you look at the numbers it kinda looks like the line on 6 is going up and the line on 9 is going down. (Not a 69 joke)
Tomb implies going down and eden implies going up so I think you're right about the placement of the songs on the album. Also, the Chokehold dude comes up from the depths with water dripping out of him so there are a lot of indicators that he came up at the surface and now he wants to go even higher.
I have a theory at the end of Tomb that the noise we hear is a UK ambulance distorted through water, and it gets louder as he's being pulled toward the surface, screaming (larger theory being the car accident that plunged them into the ocean). The Chokehold figure coming up from water would confirm that more for me 👀
I waited WEEEEEEEEKS for this video!!! descending is my #3 favorite song and I recently got my new overear headphones delivered and this is the first song I listened to
when this album was being released the band had asigned each song an ocean depth/coordinates that descended (haha) the farther into the album the song was located. it starts at 914 feet with atlantic and gets 910 feet deeper with each song, with "missing limbs" being in the marianas trench (challenger deep)
I have been anxious awaiting you guys react to this one. It LITERALLY takes my breath away!! When he sings "but I'm already on the ground" that pain I'm hearing makes me forget to breathe. Also the bridges does the same to me, especially the second one with the background.
@@shyfullripped nah that’s called talent bro many people can’t do that please continue don’t give up the things you love to do you gain a new subscriber ❤️
Hell yeah. This song is a VIBE. I know someone says this about every song, because ST doesn’t miss. But the next song Telomeres is one of my absolute favorites. Love these reactions!
im just waitin for them to hear whats left because good lort, love yalls reactions gettin other people’s interpretation of whats goin on. happy sunday yall!
the rest of this album is a descent into a self imposed madness. its haunting, and sad, and SO DAMN CATCHY. One thing I think you guys should do, when you've finished Tomb, (maybe for Patreon) sit down and listen to all three albums in a single sitting. It's an INCREDIBLE experience
I just love that dark athmosphere that song creates, and that different Style of music again, its so catchy, i put it on repeat These days. Amazing. I also noticed the hardly surpressed angryness in Vessel's voice here. The way he's hissing out the words and confronting the other with his discontent about things happening. So well done.
Crisis averted lol Descending is one of my favorite and is one of those sleep token songs that you love it more and more the more you listen to it. It's a shame they haven't really performed it live because I think it would slap soooo hard
Awesome reaction as always! I'm so excited because while I adore the whole album, Telomeres and Missing Limbs are my favorites, and Telomeres is next with Missing Limbs not far behind. All 3 of the last songs on the album are amazing (well, all their music is, but some feel just a lil more special) I can't wait! 💙
This is such a great song! I usually have Distraction and Descending on repeat. “I’m a sucker for industrial music“, now imagine Vessel and Trent making an industrial album.
OMG, just found this song recently, and as with all new songs I discover of Sleep Token, I’m listening to it nonstop. Man, I can’t believe just how many songs on all 3 albums where I’m just like “this song is so good, no THIS song is so good.” EVERY new song I hear I just love and that’s rare for an artist, for me at least. Allot of their songs remind me of either movie or game soundtracks. Would love to see a gritty movie featuring a song like this one where they take certain elements of this song and use it for all the different scenes in the movie. Songs like Atlantic, or Ascensionism, even The Offering, Nazareth, very movie-ish in feeling during somber moments, or even crazy moments. I don’t know if I’m describing that in a way that makes sense but overall they’re just very “otherworldly.” If you’re the dissociative type, Sleep Token is your band. Full on ear orgasm on each song.
I was waiting for this one! A lot of people don't seem to like this one because it is so different, but this was one of the first handful of ST songs I heard and I loved it immediately! So glad you guys also enjoyed it
I feel like when vessel sings the amount of emotion he puts into every lyric breaths life into it. The way he sings each line evokes an emotion that is so similar to a visceral emotion I’ve had to a pivotal moment in my life hits me in my chest so hard. Makes his songs so addictive for me
i was so nervous you guys weren’t going to like this one lol, this one has been on the top of of my On Repeat playlist on spotify for WEEKS i can’t wait for you to get to Missing Limbs, it’s my favorite song from this album
I loved this reaction especially when I woke up this morning. ❤❤ I just wanted to say, changing the subject, Ren has released another Retake called Back on 74/Message in a Bottle Retake. I can't wait to watch your reaction to that video as you will get a nice surprise!!!🎉❤❤❤❤
This was the song on this album that really grabbed me by the ears on my first listen through. The part where he realizes this diety that has invaded every part of his life doesn't even remember his name is a fucking punch to the gut.
Between his obvious fascination with the deep ocean and his enjoyment of video games, I could very easily see Vessel putting major time into Subnautica. Great call, honestly.
I love this song. Its taunting, its coming through water, and a bad phone line. I feel like this is Sleep not vessel singing. It's snide , spitting "What would you do for me, you cant even remember my name, after all ive done for you?" It feels like sleep is showing their true face. Its like the best soap opera ever!
After Tomb you guys have to do their from the room below live songs. Some are never included on albums, Vessel did a few like Alkaline, fall for me, and I believe their cover of Hallelujah will bring you to tears.
I have been WAITING for this song reaction. By far one of my favorite Sleep Token songs in general. Its such a good one. As always amazing reaction from you guys. Can't wait for the EPs
This particular song is the one I can relate to personal feelings probably the most of all. Unfortunately, not every relationship survive though the time. And it became look like something weird at that point when all 'talk is cheap' etc. Damn... understanding what he's talking about makes me sobbing almost every time while remembering some good and bad memories... Also, thanks for reaction to this one of the most underrated and experimental pieces of ST music.
The rest of the album is a ride for sure. Telomeres feels a lot lighter , kind of a 2000’s era vibe to me with modern touches then it gets dark with high water and ends just plain sad with missing limbs. It’s just 😮💨
